Video game peripheral maker Mad Catz sold its Tritton brand to Silkysea International Limited, it announced on Friday.
The assets sold includes specified trademarks valid in the U.S., China, Hong Kong, and Russia.
Mad Catz acquired the line of gaming headsets from Tritton Technologies in 2010 for $1 million in cash, along with a maximum of $9 million more over the next five years if the products hit certain unspecified sales goals.
Mad Catz voluntarily filed for bankruptcy in March 2017 after several years of financial struggle. It gambled big on making peripherals for Harmonix’s “Rock Band 4” in 2015, but consumer interest in the rhythm genre had diminished at that point. Mad Catz president and CEO Darren Richardson, along with other executives, resigned a year later and the company cut a large portion of its workforce. By January 2017, it was at risk of being delisted from the New York Stock Exchange.

California-based company Mad Catz is best known for producing a large variety of gaming peripherals and accessories over the years, but took a larger stab at software production by helping Harmonix co-distribute Rock Band 4 last year, putting a large investment into producing new instrument controllers as well as promoting the title.
While the game received a generally positive critical reception, it seems that overall sales didn’t meet Mad Catz’s expectations, and the company will consequently go through a major restructuring over the next fiscal year.
A whopping 37% of Mad Catz’s staff will be let go in the process, which is expected to save the company $5 million by 2017. While the past quarter’s total sales of $65 million were the second-highest the company has ever had, a significant decrease in net income resulted in a loss of over $4 million.

Mad Catz wants to claw its way into your gamespace again, this time bringing with it a pro controller, new fight sticks, and a mouse that will make Mmo players drool.
First up is the Mlg Pro Circuit Controller, with "tournament grade components" that let you customize the entire look and feel of the controller. You can change the side, the thumbsticks, the d-pad and more, giving you a custom look and feel to what you bring to the game. Available for both the PS3 and the Xbox 360, it comes in a custom carrying case that also holds the additional parts. It's like bringing your own customized pool cue to the tournament and intimidating everyone. That is, if you play pool.
“The Mlg Pro Circuit Controller with its tournament grade components and ProModule system has been very well received by the pro gaming community.” said Darren Richardson,...

It looks like peripheral manufacturer Mad Catz is no longer content with just making hardware – they're now entering the game development side of the industry. The company has announced the formation of a San Diego-based game studio that will focus on developing a new flight simulation title for as-of-yet-unannounced platforms. Well, at least you know the controller will come properly calibrated for the game.
The company's new development venture has been dubbed ThunderHawk Studios, and while Mad Catz hasn't announced any real specifics on upcoming games, they did state that the group will "focus on developing a series of [massively-multiplayer online] flight simulation games." Who knows, maybe the company is looking to take a crack at the market share of games like "Warhawk."
It's not entirely surprising that Mad Catz would develop a flight simulation game. Besides the fact that the company already manufactures general-use joysticks, Mad Catz also began producing high-end...
