“Since the tragic death of her young son, acclaimed author Aggie Wiggs has receded from public life, unable to write, a ghost of her former self. But she finds an unlikely subject for a new book when the house next door is bought by Nile Sheldon, a famed and formidable real estate mogul who was once the prime suspect in his wife’s disappearance,” reads the Netflix synopsis. “At once horrified and fascinated by this man, Aggie finds herself compulsively hunting for the truth – chasing his demons while fleeing her own – in a game of cat and mouse that might turn deadly.”

Four years after Showtime’s award-winning Homeland ended its eight-season run, star Claire Danes and creator Howard Gordon are reuniting at Netflix.
The streaming giant has handed out a straight-to-series order for The Beast in Me, a limited series starring Danes and from showrunner Gordon.
Created by Gabe Rotter, Netflix says the mystery thriller revolves around “acclaimed author Aggie Wiggs, who since the death of her young son has receded from public life, unable to write, a ghost of her former self. Netflix has given the green light to The Beast In Me, a limited series headlined and executive produced by Claire Danes. In addition to Danes, the mystery thriller project, created, written and executive produced by Gabe Rotter, is executive produced by Jodie Foster, Conan O’Brien via Conaco and Homeland co-creator/executive producer Howard Gordon who will serve as showrunner, reuniting with the acclaimed series’ star/executive producer Danes. 20th Television is the studio; Gordon is no longer under a deal at Sony Pictures TV, which explains his involvement.
The surprising mix of big names attached to the series reflects its long, twisty path to the screen — indicative of how hard it often is to get a show made — which we will get into in a bit. The story may also inspire aspiring writers not to give up.

Two and a half years ago, we heard that Fox was developing an animated comedy series that would be set in the world of their popular series The X-Files, which originally ran for nine seasons, from 1993 to 2002. It was then revived for a tenth season in 2016 and an eleventh in 2018. Along the way, there were also two feature films and a short-lived spin-off called The Lone Gunmen. But now TV Line has been able to confirm that the animated comedy series, which was going to be called The X-Files: Albuquerque, is not going to happen. The project has been scrapped.
If The X-Files: Albuquerque had made it to the air, it would have introduced viewers to an office of misfit agents who investigate X-Files cases too wacky, ridiculous or downright dopey for Mulder and Scully to bother with. They’re essentially the X-Files’ B-team.

Raise your hand if you had “Ryan Coogler reboots ‘The X-Files'” on your 2023 Bingo card.
In the March 27 episode of the podcast “On The Coast with Gloria Macarenko,” “X-Files” creator Chris Carter claimed that Coogler is remaking the beloved Fox sci-fi/horror show for a new audience. “I just spoke to a young man, Ryan Coogler, who is going to remount ‘The X-Files’ with a diverse cast,” Carter stated. Fox has yet to make an official statement about the rumored project.
The original showrunner later added that Coogler “has got his work cut out for him, because we covered so much territory.” Indeed, “The X-Files” first aired for nine seasons between 1993 and 2002, with two feature films in 1998 and 2008. Fox then revived the series for two more seasons, which were broadcast in 2016 and 2018. The last episode to air was its 218th overall.

The X-Files as we once knew it appears to be all but over after 11 seasons spanning the course of 25 years, two feature films, and numerous comics, books, and video game tie-ins. On a show where famously no one ever really dies, the prospect of another run with David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson is all but dead. That’s thoroughly disappointing for fans who were (to put it nicely) unsatisfied with the season 11 finale and series creator Chris Carter himself recently said he was “sorry” for how the series ended with a string of cliffhangers that may never get resolved.
The good news for X-Files diehards is that any franchise worth, well, anything in Hollywood these days never dies. Carter embodies this wholeheartedly and has been quietly working on the next iteration of The X-Files, which is an animated spinoff series script recently ordered by Fox. The “X-Files” is coming back in two-dimensional form; Fox is developing an animated spin-off of the classic sci-fi drama that will boast a more comedic take on the franchise.
TVLine reports that the show, titled “X-Files: Albuquerque,” has received a script and presentation commitment from Fox. Per the publication the “toon off-shoot” will not revolve around David Duchovny‘s Mulder and Gillian Anderson‘s Scully, but will instead center on an office full of misfit agents who investigate X-Files cases “too wacky, ridiculous, or downright dopey for the original series’ protagonists to bother with.
Per TVLine, original series creator Chris Carter is attached to executive produce the spin-off, though he will not write or serve as showrunner. Netflix’s “Paradise Pd” vets Rocky Russo and Jeremy Sosenko are attached to write the pilot and will serve as executive producers alongside original “X-Files” writer Gabe Rotter.

The X-Files has always been a cartoon at heart. Dana Scully’s hair has always been a little too red. Fox “Spooky” Mulder’s unimaginative suit and tie was a caricature of federal officer wear. It’s fitting that Fox is developing an animated comedy spinoff of The X-Files which will be executive produced by the series creator Chris Carter, according to Variety. The spinoff will be called The X-Files: Albuquerque.
Fox hasn’t quite committed to the script or presentation yet. The spinoff will not revolve around the characters David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson brought to life. It will revolve around an office of misfit agents who take on the cases the bureau’s X-Files consider too ridiculous to bother with. They take the castoffs, the ones that would only fit into B movies.
The pilot will be written by Rocky Russo and Jeremy Sosenko, who wrote Paradise Pd for Netflix.

X-Files Recap is a weekly column by Keith Uhlich covering Chris Carter's 10-episode continuation of the X-Files television series. The past never leaves us. It flickers in our subconscious—hazy, nagging memories—until something (a sight, a smell, some other trigger) stokes it. All of an instant, where we are becomes where we were, a cognitive dissonance that FBI Special Agents Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) surely perceive at the beginning of “Kitten” (the sixth episode of The X-Files’ eleventh season, written by Gabe Rotter and directed by Carol Banker) when they walk into the office of Deputy Director Alvin Kersh (James Pickens, Jr.). “I’m gonna ask you once and only once,” he says in his stock surly tone. “Where is he?” We’ll get to who “he” is in a moment. First it behooves us to consider if the Kersh Mulder and Scully...

Way back in a Season 2 episode of The X-Files, FBI assistant director Walter Skinner struggled to convince Fox Mulder, a headstrong agent grieving for his dying partner, not to resign from the Bureau. Aspart of a larger story about having the courage to investigate the inexplicable, Skinner offered this harrowing vignette:
When I was 18, I went to Vietnam. I wasn’t drafted, Mulder, I enlisted in the Marine Corps the day of my 18th birthday. I did it on a blind faith. I did it because I believed it was the right thing to do. I don’t know, maybe I still do.

The conversation is changing. With each passing week, more and more female stars have shared their experiences with rampant Hollywood sexism, from horrifying stories about giving “blowjob eyes” at auditions to tales of pay inequality and pushing for more female-led stories. While the sheer scale of the stories is upsetting — it seems like every actress has their own tale to tell — that these stars feel comfortable speaking out on the subject is heartening, one step closer to an industry that doesn’t have this kind of discrimination seemingly baked into its everyday operations.
While there have certainly been misfires along the way — actress and director Elizabeth Banks was recently taken to task for (incorrectly) calling out Steven Spielberg for never directing films with female leads, and “Game of Thrones” star Emilia Clarke compared sexism to racism in an ill-concieved statement to Rolling Stone — the recent uptick in discussion is proof that the,...

“The X-Files” fans have a great reason to be excited since Season 11 is officially on the way, but this week news hit that should make every fan somewhat disappointed in the franchise. Earlier this week, the Season 11 writers’ room was revealed to be made up of only men — Darin Morgan, Glen Morgan, James Wong, Gabe Rotter, Benjamin Van Allen and Brad Follmer — prompting industry backlash and a call to diversify the voices behind-the-scenes. Now star Gillian Anderson has weighed in, and she’s not happy about the lack of women either.
