Son of L.A. Times publisher Norman Chandler and Dorothy Chandler (the philanthropist and arts patron for whom the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion
is named); great-grandson of L.A. Times founder Harrison Gray
Otis.
His mother was Dorothy Chandler the philanthropist and arts patron who
led a campaign in the 1950s to save the financially troubled Hollywood
Bowl and a drive to build a permanent home for the Los Angeles
Philharmonic. This elegant and beautiful cultural center is named the
"Dorothy Chandler Pavillion".
He had five children: Norman, Harry Brant Chandler, Cathleen, Michael and Carolyn.
