Ted Lasso Season 3 Completely Underused This Promising S2 Character
Image
Dr. Sharon Fieldstone, a compelling character introduced in season 2 of Ted Lasso, was underutilized in the show's final season. As a sports psychologist, Sharon played a crucial role in helping various characters, including Ted, Dani, and Jamie, overcome personal challenges. While her character's departure from the club made it harder to feature her in season 3, Sharon's personal story and continued relationship with the Richmond family would have made the final episodes even better.

Ted Lasso is full of varied and interesting personalities, but one important character from season 2 was completely underutilized in season 3. Over the course of Ted Lasso's three seasons, fans were treated to many character arcs, with the Apple TV+ show exploring everyone from supporting stars like journalist Trent Crimm to right back player Samuel Obisanya. However, with limited time to wrap up the series after Ted Lasso season 3 was confirmed as the series' end, not all minor...

Where To Buy Ted Lasso Season 3's Official AFC Richmond Jersey
Image
Fans of Ted Lasso can show their support for AFC Richmond by purchasing jerseys of their favorite characters like Sam, Jamie, Dani, or Zava from the official Warner Bros. shop. In addition to jerseys, the official Warner Bros. shop offers a wide range of merchandise inspired by Ted Lasso, including track jackets, hoodies, Funko Pops, and products featuring the Ted Lasso Believe sign.

Following the success of Apple TV+'s beloved soccer comedy, Ted Lasso, many fans want to know where they can purchase an AFC Richmond jersey and show their support for the fictional team. Based on the character that Jason Sudeikis created for a series of NBC Sports promo ads, the series follows an optimistic Kansas football coach named Ted Lasso (Sudeikis) who is hired to coach an English Premier League soccer team despite knowing almost nothing about the sport. During his tenure, Ted bonds with the main Ted Lasso characters,...

Jason Sudeikis in Ted Lasso (2020)

Season 3 of “Ted Lasso” is reaching its final minutes on the field. The episode, titled “International Break,” also featured the return of Edwin Akufo (Sam Richardson) to wreak his particular brand of havoc on the footballing world, as well as on Sam Obisanya (Toheeb Jimoh).

Viewers saw as AFC Richmond’s international break from league play followed as Jaime Tartt (Phil Dunster), Colin Hughes (Billy Harris), Moe Bumbercatch (Moe Hashim), Van Damme (Moe Jeudy-Lamour) and Dani Rojas (Cristo Fernández) represented their native countries in international play — Sam was noticeably omitted from participating.

‘Ted Lasso’ Season 3: Dani Rojas Is Based on This Real-Life Footballer
Image
This week's episode of Ted Lasso starts with the players getting ready to start practice, and a particularly wholesome detail is that Dani Rojas (Cristo Fernández) has his catchphrase, "Fútbol is life," embroidered on his boots. The enthusiasm and natural charisma of the Mexican star are captivating, though what you may not know is that his whole character is based on a real-life footballer, fellow Mexican striker Javier "Chicharito" Hernández. The two of them play forward, like scoring goals (even with their faces!), and have a very positive outlook on football and why it matters, so it's the perfect match.

Who Said It? ‘Ted Lasso’ Edition
Image
“Football is life!” If you’re a true Ted Lasso fan, you probably heard Dani Rojas (Cristo Fernández) saying that quote in your head as you read it. And we don’t blame you! This beloved Apple TV+ show is full of lovable characters, who are known for saying some of the most memorable lines. Who can forget when Ted Lasso (Jason Sudeikis) told Sam Obisanya (Toheeb Jimoh), “You know what the happiest animal on Earth is? It’s a goldfish. You know why? It’s got a 10-second memory,” after Jamie Tartt (Phil Dunster) tripped him while they were running drills? Or when Keeley Jones (Juno Temple) confessed to Rebecca Welton (Hannah Waddingham), “I have a confession to make. I’ve never really cared about football. I know. I know it sounds insane, but I know how to act at a match. ‘Referee! Offside, you turnip,'” even though...

Ted Lasso: Which Real Life Footballer Is Dani Rojas Based On?
Image
Ted Lasso fans might not realize that Cristo Fernandez's Dani Rojas is based on a real player. Ted Lasso follows the titular American football coach (Jason Sudeikis) hired to manage a team in the English Premier League. Fans of the series and of soccer quickly drew some clear connections between the show and the actual footballing world. The combative Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein) is a play on Manchester United's Roy Keane, Jamie Tartt (Phil Dunster) highlights aspects of many young football talents like Cristiano Ronaldo or Jack Grealish, and Lasso's club, AFC Richmond, compares directly to Crystal Palace, even filming most of the show in their stadium, Selhurst Park.

Rojas enters the show as one of Ted Lasso's players who joined the team at the start of the season, but suffered a knee injury before he was able to make an impression. When he finally recovers enough to play,...

Ted Lasso Season 3 Is Too Obsessed With Winning
Image
In episode 5 of "Ted Lasso" season 3, the Greyhounds are coming off of a brutal loss to West Ham that knocks them even further down the Premier League power rankings. Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham), Richmond's owner and biggest champion, storms into Ted's office and yells, "Are we ever going to win another f***ing match?" Clearly, the team is spiraling and the pressure of joining the Premier League is mounting, causing a rift between Rebecca, the team, and the fans; a rift that's only growing larger week by week.

Of course, the entire Richmond community wants their team to win and Ted has an obligation to make sure they're the best they can be. But season 3 as a whole has become a little too concerned with what's happening on the field and in episode 5, "Signs," the obsession with winning becomes too much of a focus for a show that's always chosen...

Jason Sudeikis in Ted Lasso (2020)
Here’s Which ‘Ted Lasso’ Cast Members Actually Play Soccer (Photos)
Jason Sudeikis in Ted Lasso (2020)
Apple TV+’s smash hit comedy series “Ted Lasso” features a mix of comedy, skilled soccer-playing and emotion-inducing vulnerability. Based on a character created and brought to life by Jason Sudeikis, the show has seen two very successful seasons launch, with lots of Emmy love, but with Season 3 on the way, how seriously does its cast take soccer?

Jaime Tartt (Phil Dunster) and Dani Rojas (Cristo Fernandez) have been established as the team’s two aces, while Isaac McAdoo (Kola Bokinni) has taken over the coveted captain role for newly retired and now AFC Richmond Coach Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein).

According to an interview with IndieWire, actors who portrayed professional soccer players in “Ted Lasso” had to display their soccer skills during auditions.

“It was vital that all the team really could play football, so it was absolutely part of their audition process,” explained British casting director Theo Park. “They...

Why Ted Lasso's Season 3 Villain Means Season 4 Needs To Happen
Image
The villain for Ted Lasso season 3 proves why the show needs a season 4. Ted Lasso, the hit soccer comedy series from Apple TV+, has captivated audiences with its mix of humor and heart. The show, which follows the titular American college football coach as he takes over as manager of a Premier League soccer team, has become a smash hit for Apple's streaming service thanks to its litany of relatable characters and ability to tackle big themes such as mental health and toxic masculinity with a light, deft touch.

Ted Lasso has become one of the most highly-acclaimed sitcoms in recent memory, with Ted Lasso season 1 the most nominated first-season comedy in the history of the Primetime Emmy Awards. Ted Lasso season 3, however, has a villain problem that only a future season 4 could potentially overcome. No character highlights this more clearly than Nick Mohammed's Nate, who was established...

Ted Lasso's Allen Iverson Speech, Explained
Image
For the most part, Ted Lasso is a fictional show, but there are elements based on truth, specifically, Ted's Allen Iverson speech. The titular character travels to England from the USA, to take up the role of a British soccer coach. In stark contrast to a stereotypical, loud sports coach, Ted's approach to his job goes beyond the glory of winning matches. Not only is his sportsmanship directed to his players, but it also reaches every employee at AFC Richmond. An outburst against Jamie Tartt was somewhat out of character, but it showed the passion he felt for his job.

Nominated for Best Television Series at the Golden Globes, Ted Lasso hasn't been short of positive recognition from many critics and fans alike, ranking the show as one of the best sitcoms in 2021. NBA player Allen Iverson made the well-known "practice" speech at a press conference, during his time playing for the Philadelphia 76ers.

FIFA 23 Career Mode Teams You Have To Play As At Least Once
Image
Career Mode fans are among the loudest in the FIFA community in clamoring for further updates from EA Sports, but with such upgrades found to be lacking in FIFA 23, players may have to resort to trying out different teams in order to spice up their favorite game mode. For years now, Career Mode fans have taken charge of the same club, chased after the same trophies and likely won them courtesy of signing the same players, which they discovered were overpowered in the previous FIFA. With the exception of FIFA 22’s Create Your Club option, there have been few reasons for them to deviate from this well-rehearsed routine.

Beyond a new FIFA soundtrack that ranks among the middle of the pack, each iteration of the world-leading football simulation largely serves as a squad update from which players can then remold their favorite club, just as they did 12 months prior. For some,...

The Best and Worst Comedies of 2021
John Goodman, Sara Gilbert, Jay R. Ferguson, Alicia Goranson, Laurie Metcalf, Emma Kenney, and Ames McNamara in Die Conners (2018)
2021 was a great year for comedies on TV.

Some new shows broke through to keep viewers laughing, while others imploded.

It's time to take a look at the best and worst comedies on TV in 2021.

Did your favorite (or worst!) show make the cut?

Scroll down to find out.

The Conners - Worst

It's just getting worse. Sure, it's still nostalgically curious to watch the beloved characters, but producer Sara Gilbert continues her risky yet uninteresting television mogul moves by presenting unfunny drivel.

Laughs are growing fewer and further between, except for Alicia Goranson's Becky, the only character who gets any laughs anymore. It's more clear than ever that Roseanne was the magic glue to make this vessel float. And now it's drowning.

We can't help but feel bad for icons Metcalf and Goodman.

‘Ted Lasso’ Stars Admit Ted’s Sunny Philosophy Doesn’t Always Work
Jason Sudeikis
This story about “Ted Lasso” first appeared in the Down to the Wire issue of TheWrap’s awards magazine.

On the surface a fish-out-of-water comedy about a Midwestern football coach who’s hired to take over a struggling soccer team on the outskirts of London even though he has no experience with the sport, AppleTV’s “Ted Lasso” ends up being a lot more than that. The show, which set an Emmy record for a first-year comedy series by racking up 20 nominations, is in some ways gloriously optimistic and sunny, but it also stares down loss and depression as it dares to find tenderness and forgiveness. It’s a foul-mouthed comedy but also an open-hearted testament to healing, and a welcome balm in tough times.

The week of the Season 2 premiere, seven of the cast members sat down with TheWrap to talk about the show. The roster: Jason Sudeikis, co-creator,...

Ted Lasso: Roy and Keeley Share the Best Season 2 Scene Yet
Image
This article contains spoilers for Ted Lasso season 2 episode 2.

Ted Lasso’s Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein) and Keeley Jones (Juno Temple) are a special kind of TV couple. Like other character pairings on Bill Lawrence-produced shows before them, Roy and Keeley reject the “will they or won’t they” sitcom binary.

Instead these are two adults who share an intense emotional and physical connection and who are bound and determined to make an adult relationship work. The show has already borne the fruit of their efforts. After a touching conclusion to season 1, Roy and Keeley’s dynamic got even more acute in season 2’s first episode. The soft-spoken ex-footballer, emboldened by the relationship with his better half, passionately informs Rebecca Welton (Hannah Waddingham) that she should never, ever settle.

It was a monologue that indicated just how far Roy and Keeley have come (and one that got basically half...

Is Ted Lasso a good coach, or just a good person? Are the two mutually exclusive? Let's Debate Ted Lasso: Is He Actually a Good Coach?
Jason Sudeikis
There's no denying that Coach Ted Lasso (Jason Sudeikis) is the most heartwarming character on TV. However, following the season two premiere of Apple TV+'s Ted Lasso, we found ourselves questioning whether the often-inspiring character is actually good at his job. For those who've yet to tune in, the new episode kicked off with AFC Richmond struggling to perform after seven straight ties. To make matters worse, star player Dani Rojas (Cristo Fernández) even began questioning his "Football is Life" mantra after accidentally killing the beloved mascot, Earl Greyhound. You'd think this would be Ted's time to shine, right? Wrong. Unable to shake the yips from Dani,...

Ted Lasso Season 2: Dani Rojas Discovers Football Is Death Too
Jason Sudeikis in Ted Lasso (2020)
This article contains spoilers for Ted Lasso season 2 episode 1.

In its first season, Apple TV+ comedy Ted Lasso was regarded as an optimistic breath of fresh air.

This tale of a kind American football coach in London politely asked us all to be curious, not judgmental. And in the process, it created a legion of fans excited for more of Ted Lasso’s (Jason Sudeikis) cheerful disposition in season 2. So how does season 2, which premiered this Friday, July 23 on Apple TV+, fulfill those good vibes? Why, by killing a dog, of course!

As you probably know by now, the very first scene of Ted Lasso season 2 catches up with AFC Richmond eight games into their first season in second tier English soccer league, the Championship. Things have been frustrating thus far for the Greyhounds, as they’ve rattled off seven consecutive ties, one short of the league record of eight...

Ted Lasso Season 2 Episode 1 Review: Goodbye, Earl
Jason Sudeikis in Ted Lasso (2020)
Ted Lasso is back, but is it better than ever? The answer is yes -- thousand times yes.

Ted Lasso Season 2 Episode 1 wastes no time getting the audience back into the action and improving on what came before.

Ted Lasso became a huge hit because its optimism and commitment to nuanced character work created something irresistibly joyful.  Watching it is like eating an ice cream sundae without worrying about the calories.

However, as beloved as the show has become, it doesn't mean Ted Lasso is entirely immune from criticism.

Since the humor on Ted Lasson Season 1 was low-key for the most part, it raised the question of whether Ted Lasso a comedy or a comedy in name only?

Ted Lasso Season 2 Episode 1's opening sequence of Richmond's ace-player, Dani Rojas, accidentally killing his team mascot, Earl, the greyhound, and the ensuing fallout seems to be the show's way of answering,...

Ted Lasso Reveals His Angry Alter Ego in New Season 2 Trailer
Jason Sudeikis
Ted Lasso may seem like he's all biscuits and sunshine, but he does have a dark side. On Monday, June 21, Apple TV+ released an all-new trailer for season two of Ted Lasso, and introduced viewers to the beloved football coach's angry alter ego. Per the just-released teaser, Ted (played by Jason Sudeikis) has been fully embraced by the AFC Richmond community, including boss Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham) and the oh-so critical fans. However, the football team's performance on the pitch is less than stellar. Even football-loving, superstar-on-the-rise Dani Rojas (Cristo Fernández) is struggling to make magic happen on the field. Thus, as Ted notes to Coach Beard...

‘Ted Lasso’ Season 2 Trailer: Meet Mean Ted Lasso (Video)
Jason Sudeikis in Ted Lasso (2020)
Monday mornings usually suck. But some Monday mornings, you get the “Ted Lasso” Season 2 trailer. Luckily, this Monday morning happens to be the latter one of those.

Watch the Apple TV+ trailer via the video above.

In the preview, Dani Rojas (Cristo Fernández) struggles mightily, AFC Richmond can’t win (or lose) a game, and the team meets mean Coach Lasso, Led Tasso.

It seems none of those last. What is enduring, however, is how the Jason Sudeikis character continues to have the perfect answer to every single tough question at his press conferences. Here at TheWrap, we’ve participated in a press conference or two, and can tell you from experience that is rarely how the Q&a portion goes.

“Ted Lasso” follows an American football coach who is hired to manage a British soccer team — despite having no experience in the game. What he lacks in knowledge, he makes up for with optimism,...

‘Ted Lasso’ Casting Process Changed the International Team’s Composition
Image
Behind the uplifting humor of Apple TV’s hit comedy series “Ted Lasso” — about a London-based soccer team and their optimistic American coach — is a charming ensemble complementing Jason Sudeikis’ star turn as the title character. British casting director Theo Park is the woman partly responsible for that on-screen alchemy.

Sudeikis, one of series co-creators and an executive producer, was the loudest creative voice when it came to building the ensemble, which meant he had final say in every casting decision. His steadfast vision facilitated Park’s search. “It was all about how Jason perceived the roles. All I needed to do was have a quick chat with him about what he wanted and then it was clear,” she told IndieWire from London.

Even if Sudeikis had veto power, the concept lent itself to plenty of exploration, especially considering neither Sudeikis nor the other producers knew many British actors. Park,...

How ‘Ted Lasso’ casting director Theo Park assembled a team of ‘really good actors’ who could ‘play football really well’ [Exclusive Video Interview]
Image
Auditioning for a role on “Ted Lasso’s” AFC Richmond squad required not only acting chops but some credible soccer — excuse us, football — skills as well. “They had to be really good actors and play football really well,” casting director Theo Park tells Gold Derby at our Meet the Experts: TV Casting Directors panel (watch the exclusive video interview above). “It was really exciting to see actors who I knew show me their amazing football skills.”

While most of those auditions were self-tapes, Park and her team had the actors kick around a ball in the parking lot for some of the smaller footballer roles. But that idea quickly went out the, uh, window. “One day, one of the girls kicked the ball — she wasn’t as good as she told us she was — and she kicked the ball and smashed the window of the opposite office, which we had to pay for,...

But discovering some who were, such as Cristo Fernández, who plays the wildly hysterically funny Latin American soccer player Dani Rojas in AppleTV+’s Ted Lasso, was a feat worth screaming “goal” about for series co-creator Bill Lawrence and casting director Theo Park.

“Anybody we cast is going to have shootable football-soccer skills, so that we don’t have to stunt double everybody,” added Lawrence about the types of actors the production was looking for in its first season.

We talk with Lawrence and Park today on Crew Call about assembling the losing English Premier League team, AFC Richmond, which fish-out-water-Kansas native yank coach Ted Lasso, played by Jason Sudeikis, is tasked with overseeing. Unlike other comedy series on streaming and cable networks, which are devoted to casting established character actors and comedic faces, Ted Lasso...

Mario Lopez and Cristo Fernández
Ted Lasso Writer Jamie Lee Promises More of [Spoiler] in Season 2
Mario Lopez and Cristo Fernández
"Football is life!" It seems we'll be hearing that a lot more once Ted Lasso season two premieres on Apple TV+ July 23. In an exclusive chat with E! News, Ted Lasso writer Jamie Lee revealed that fans can expect more of enthusiastic football player Dani Rojas (Cristo Fernández) and his above mantra. "I can say there's a little more Dani Rojas," Jamie exclusively shared with E! News. "So, that's fun because people love him." For those unfamiliar with the show, Ted Lasso follows Jason Sudeikis as the titular character, an American football coach with little soccer—or as the rest of the world calls it, football—knowledge that takes on a job coaching...

Wonderwall (1968)
We Can’t Get These Musical TV Moments From 2020 Out Our Head
Wonderwall (1968)
TV provided a lot of memorable musical moments this year.

Some were amazing, and some were very disturbing.

Plus a few classics were dusted off and found new life during these dark times.

1.  "Wonderwall"/"Bad Romance"/"Let It Go" - Ted Lasso

Just when you thought Afc Richmond football couldn't score any higher in the adorable and endearing categories, they went to a karaoke bar on Ted Lasso Season 1 Episode 7.

Sam's rendition of "Wonderwall" was heartfelt. Coach Beard's performance of "Bad Romance" would make Lady Gaga proud. Then Rebecca brought down the house with "Let It Go."

The only thing more entertaining than the singers were the reactions of the usually gruff Roy Kent and a shirtless Dani Rojas.

2.  "I Want to be Evil"/"Someone to Watch Over Me - Lucifer

Compared to Lucifer Season 4, the first half of Lucifer Season 5 didn't feature the cast showing off their vocals as often.

Jason Sudeikis
A Clearly Frazzled Ted Lasso Is Ready to Bathe – but Definitely Not Bury – Himself in His Work (Exclusive Video)
Jason Sudeikis
Ted Lasso (Jason Sudeikis) is all up in his own head, which is definitely not cleared, in TheWrap’s exclusive sneak peek from Episode 6 of the Apple TV+ series.

In the video, readers will also (finally?) learn Coach Beard’s (Brendan Hunt) favorite bath balm, and a little too much information about Nate’s (Nick Mohammed) skin.

Watch the video above.

In the sixth episode, entitled “Two Aces,” when Jamie (Phil Dunster) refuses to train, Ted turns to talented new signing Dani Rojas (Cristo Fernández) — and the team is struck by an age-old curse.

The titular character in this “Ted Lasso” is a small-time college football coach from Kansas who was hired to coach a professional soccer team in England, despite having no experience coaching soccer. The series also stars Hannah Waddingham, Jeremy Swift, Juno Temple and Brett Goldstein.

Sudeikis serves as executive producer, alongside Bill Lawrence (“Scrubs”) via his Doozer Productions,...

Bryan Cranston in Breaking Bad (2008)
Far Cry 6: Release Date, Trailer, and News
Bryan Cranston in Breaking Bad (2008)
Far Cry 6 has been confirmed by Ubisoft after the surprise was spoiled by a PlayStation Store Hong Kong listing ahead of its official reveal during Ubisoft Forward.

Far Cry 6 will take place on the fictional island of Yara. It will follow a young soldier named Dani Rojas who will fight against Yara’s dictator, Anton Castillo (notably played by Breaking Bad‘s Giancarlo Esposito).

The game’s cover shows Castillo standing with his hands on the shoulder of a young boy who appears to be his son (and eventual successor), Diego. It seems that the pair are intent on restoring Yara “to its former glory by any means,” which has resulted in a series of violent incidents that eventually lead Rojas and others to revolt.

Far Cry 6 promises to offer the “largest Far Cry playground to date” with a map that features jungles, beaches, and the urban environment of Esperanza...
