- Gabby Gillespie, an actor, vocalist, writer, and producer from Houston, recently graduated with her BFA in Acting at DePaul University and relocated to Los Angeles mid-July 2019. She is described as being incredibly passionate and determined at everything she sets her mind to. Gabby is a strong mover with a multi-year dance background, sports training experience, and numerous certifications in stage combat. She uses these skills to inform her acting both onstage and screen.
Her most recent Chicago credits include the United States premiere of Robert Icke's Oliver Award-winning adaptation of "THE ORESTEIA" trilogy directed by April Cleveland (Cilissa/The Fury,) "Go, Dog, Go!" directed by Kristina Fluty (Hattie,) "She Kills Monsters" directed by Damon Kiely (Kaliope,) "A Midsummer Night's Dream" directed by Mikael Burke (Titania,) "Into the Woods" directed by Barry Brunetti (Little Red Riding Hood,) "Misalliance" directed by Paul Holmquist (Lord Summerhays,) "Blood Wedding" directed by Ann Wakefield (Step Mother,) and a devised movement piece directed by Kristina Fluty. Over the last couple of years, she has also completed filming for three independent, student directed films. "The General Specific" directed by Matthew Stanasolvich, a film student at North Carolina School of the Arts, was recently featured at the Santa Fe Independent Film Festival.
Gabby began performing professionally in Houston's theater district at the tender age of six. She's had featured or starring roles in many local productions including "Chicago," "Grease," "A Chorus Line," "RENT," "Disney's When You Wish","Whistle Down the Wind," "White Christmas" and "The Sound of Music". Gillespie had the honor of performing at the 2008 Macy's Day parade in New York, and has belted out the National Anthem at several Houston home-town events, been featured on News and talk show programs in Austin and Houston. Gillespie also performed on "Good Day Houston" and was interviewed by Radio Disney for her role in Theater Under the Stars' 2009 staging of White Christmas.
Gabby is also incredibly passionate about vocal performance and music. In 2009, she released an EP of five original songs written by some of the most successful pop writers in the music industry. Produced by Houston native David Rice, the package includes a 3-minute promotional video directed by acclaimed filmmaker David Modigliani ("Crawford"). Known mostly in his hometown as a singer/songwriter, Rice has also earned platinum records for his song writing and production work with Mandy Moore and accolades for his scores in TV and Film music.
Rice first saw Gillespie perform in White Christmas at the invitation of her father Joe, Rice's high-school friend and choir-mate from KISD's Taylor High. "Gabby brought the house down with her voice and her performance. I'd never worked with someone this young but after spending a day with her in my studio I knew she had the chops and the commitment to take it all the way." Rice pulled together a team of top songwriters, studio musicians, and industry veterans in a coordinated push to take her career to the next level.
In the future, in addition to acting, Gabby hopes to produce, travel as much as possible, and be an advocate for women's rights within the entertainment industry.
