Seemingly everyone in Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s personal life is coming out of the woodwork to urge him to drop out of the 2024 presidential race, warning that his spoiler campaign could siphon votes off from President Joe Biden and potentially hand victory to Donald Trump.

Will Ronna McDaniel land another TV gig? There is already interest in the former Republican National Committee chair brewing from a couple of cable news outlets.
Sources at both Newsmax and NewsNation tell The Hollywood Reporter that they would be interested in pursuing a deal with McDaniel, should she ultimately finalize a separation agreement with NBC News.
McDaniel has been seeking a lawyer to negotiate an exit from NBC, which announced her hire as an NBC News contributor last Friday and reversed course just a few days later after facing backlash from MSNBC stars like Rachel Maddow and the Morning Joe team, not to mention an on-air rebuke from Chuck Todd on Meet the Press just minutes after McDaniel’s debut appearance.
McDaniel is likely to receive a hefty payout from NBC, given her two-year, $300,000 per year deal, though sometimes negotiations result in a lower payout in exchange for a shorter noncompete.

Tuesday was not a good day for Ronna McDaniel — or, is it Ronna Romney McDaniel again, as she now admits the 2020 election was not stolen? She went from a high-profile gig on NBC to no gig and no agent, as CAA also dropped her.
It was also a bad day for NBC News Group chairman Cesar Conde, who found it necessary to “personally apologize to our team members who felt we let them down.” Conde didn’t exactly fall on his sword by himself; he mentioned in his letter to staff that this was “a collective recommendation by some members of our leadership team.” But he acknowledged that the buck stopped with him.
At least McDaniel is getting a payout. So, no harm, no foul, right? Well, not exactly. This was hardly the simple loss of a job, as the fallout at NBC has made it impossible for her to...

In a different era, Tucker Carlson used to post pictures during his Fox News broadcasts of Chris Cuomo working out, then poke fun at his one-time CNN rival. Now the two personalities are going to hash things out.
Cuomo traveled to Florida for a one-on-one sit-down conversation with Carlson that is expected to air Monday, March 11 at 8 p.m. eastern on Nexstar Media’s NewsNation. The two have a lot to discuss. They were both top draws in cable-news primetime during the presidency of Donald Trump. And both have been trying to make their way in a new era after each was ousted by their former media employers. Cuomo joined NewsNation to lead a primetime show in 2022, while Carlson has set up his own media company and broadcasts programs that are seen on the social-media hub X.

The suspense this Super Tuesday may be in watching how all of the networks try to make the night suspenseful.
Some 16 states and one territory will vote: Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont and Virginia. A Democratic caucus also is being held in American Samoa, and Iowa Democrats also will reveal their results.
But with Joe Biden and Donald Trump on their way to a rematch in the 2024 presidential election, coverage Tuesday will focus on margins of victory, when each candidate will clinch their nomination and what’s next from now until Election Day. There also will be attention to down-ballot races, including California’s Senate primary to fill the seat long held by Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-ca).

CNN has paid Don Lemon $24.5 million in order to settle his separation deal nearly 10 months after he was fired for his sexist remarks about Nikki Haley.
The comments that Lemon made on CNN This Morning on February 16 enraged his co-anchors, Poppy Harlow and Kaitlan Collins, who then went into the bathroom. This controversy started with a proposal Haley made during her presidential announcement speech about instituting a mental competency test for politicians who are over 75 years old.
“This whole talk about age makes me uncomfortable,” Lemon shared. “I think it’s the wrong road to go down. She says people, you know, politicians are suddenly not in their prime. Nikki Haley isn’t in her prime. A woman is considered to be in their prime in [their] the 20s and 30s and maybe 40s.”

Bassem Youssef is setting the record straight on the Superman Legacy controversy after he suggested he was dropped from the DC film following his public support for Palestine.
In a video Youssef posted on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, he said he wanted “to address the Superman fiasco once and for all because the internet twists facts, words, and basically everything else.”
“First of all, I’m a huge fan of James Gunn, nothing but love and respect for this guy,” Youssef started off his video praising the DC Studios co-head who is also the writer and director of Superman Legacy.
Youssef recalled that in June 2023, one day before the actors strike, he got an audition for the new Superman film. The actor said that less than an hour after submitting his audition, he received a call from his agent about setting up a Zoom call with Gunn.

Veteran news broadcaster Geraldo Rivera, who worked at the Fox News Channel from 2001 to 2023, is the latest network star to join NewsNation, where he will appear as correspondent at large. According to Deadline, Rivera will make his first appearance on the Nexstar network tonight, Wednesday, February 14, on Cuomo, the primetime show hosted by former CNN host Chris Cuomo. From there, he will make regular appearances on the network’s daytime and nighttime programming. “Geraldo is a legendary journalist whose talent and experience is unrivaled in the industry,” said Michael Corn, president of news at NewsNation, in a statement, per Variety. “We look forward to him joining the network and providing our viewers with his one-of-a-kind analysis.” Rivera, who is 80 years old, was a regular cast member on Fox News’ The Five, was fired from the afternoon panel show in June 2023 after 22 years at the network. Geraldo Rivera is the latest network news veteran to join NewsNation, as the Nexstar network has hired him as correspondent at large.
Rivera’s first appearance in that role will be on Cuomo this evening, the primetime show hosted by Chris Cuomo, the former CNN host. Rivera will appear on the network’s daytime and nighttime programming.
Rivera left Fox News last year, after 22 years at the network. He said that the network fired him as a regular on its top rated The Five. He said he had a “toxic relationship” with one of the co-hosts, presumed to be Greg Gutfeld, and criticized Tucker Carlson when he was still at the network for his claim that the attack on the Capitol was an “inside job.”

CNN is turning some of the lights out on its efforts to produce morning news.
The network is revamping its entire A.M. schedule as the Warner Bros. Discovery-based cable news outlet continues to grapple with poor ratings.
Poppy Harlow and Phil Mattingly, who co-anchor “CNN This Morning,” will leave the line-up, while Kasie Hunt’s early-morning program will take on an extra hour. Her show, “Early Start,” will run from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m., and will take on the “CNN This Morning” title. CNN will then move “CNN News Central,” anchored by John Berman, Kate Bolduan and Sara Sidner, to a 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. slot, with Jim Acosta and Pamela Brown taking over new hours at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m.

Have you heard it’s cold in Des Moines? The subzero temperatures are making Monday’s caucuses in Iowa the coldest on record, a running theme of coverage throughout the day and into this evening. It’s not trivial, as the frigid weather may very well impact turnout.
As Iowa’s first votes of the 2024 presidential race come in, expect a lot of analysis, punditry and prediction, even if the results represent just a sliver of the primary electorate. The Hawkeye state’s primacy as the first-in-the-nation often obscures the peculiarities of the caucus system, unless there is some kind of glitch, which is what happened four years ago with the Democrats.
That said, networks see the caucuses as the kickoff of what is hoped a spike in viewer interest in the presidential contest, as was seen in 2020 and 2016. All of the broadcast networks are planning for ongoing coverage of...

NewsNation brought in the largest audience of its two-and-a-half-year existence Wednesday night with its telecast of a Republican presidential primary debate.
The cable outlet drew 1.59 million viewers for the debate, which featured candidates Chris Christie, Ron DeSantis, Nikki Haley and Vivek Ramaswamy. A simulcast on The CW (which, like NewsNation, is owned by Nexstar) brought in 2.62 million people, for a total of 4.21 million viewers, according to Nielsen.
The 1.59 million viewers for NewsNation is more than 10 times its typical primetime tune-in; in November, the channel’s highest-rated primetime show — Cuomo, anchored by former CNN host Chris Cuomo — averaged 149,000 viewers. The debate also set a new high for NewsNation in the key news demographic of adults 25-54, 350,000 of whom watched Wednesday’s telecast.
On The CW, the 2.62 million viewers for the debate was the largest same-day audience for the network in nearly six years — since an episode of The Flash in January...

Update: This was the last debate of 2023 and, with polling showing Donald Trump still holds a commanding lead, it doesn’t appear that he has paid any price for bypassing these events.
He’s dismissed the debates as irrelevant, but save for a few mentions from Chris Christie and Ron DeSantis, none of his rivals have really gone full throttle in attacking him for skipping the events. Trump was the topic of discussion at points on Wednesday night, but those moments were largely overshadowed by the candidates attacking each other.
When moderators asked about the former president’s statement that he would be a dictator on day one of a second term, Christie attacked Trump, but Vivek Ramaswamy seemed to want to out-Trump Trump. Rather than attacking the former president, Ramaswamy labeled Nikki Haley a “fascist” for saying that she wanted verification of social media accounts.

In her new memoir, former Andrew Cuomo aide Melissa DeRosa recalls a plot by Donald Trump to prank Cuomo’s younger brother, CNN anchor Chris Cuomo.
DeRosa’s book, What’s Left Unsaid: My Life at the Center of Power, Politics & Crisis, came out on October 24. DeRosa details a prank that the former president and former governor of New York tried to play on the reporter.
During a dinner at the Oval Office, Trump suggested that he and Andrew prank call Chris.
According to DeRosa, Andrew tried to dodge the joke by reminding Trump that his phone had been taken, per security protocol, and that he believed Chris to be “busy” at that moment.
“Oh, come on, it would be so funny!” Trump allegedly pushed Andrew.
The former president finally gave up, saying, “Ok, fine. But, it would have been fun.”
DeRosa remembers that “the whole thing felt like I was having an out-of-body experience.

Anderson Cooper, Richard Engel, Holly Wiliams, Trey Yingst, Matt Gutman and Clarissa Ward have been seen on camera in recent days trying to report on a horrific event that is emotionally draining: the invasion of Israel by Hamas militants, replete with violence, hostage-taking and explosive force.

Portions of the speech were carried on major cable news networks, with translation. CNN featured a split screen of Netanyahu and network correspondent Hadas Gold translating for viewers.

A year ago NewsNation — the Nexstar-owned cable news channel — rebooted its primetime lineup, bringing Chris Cuomo to 8 p.m., leading into Dan Abrams at 9 p.m. and Ashleigh Banfield at 10 p.m.
The idea of launching a new cable news channel in the 2020s, and in particular a cable news channel that isn’t seeking out a hyper-partisan audience, seemed like a crazy one when Nexstar announced it in 2020.

If talk about another potential federal government shutdown — who’s to blame, what it could impact, how long it could last — makes your eyes glaze over, well, you’ve got company.
Bill O’Reilly flat-out refused to talk about the topic during a Wednesday appearance on “Cuomo,” Chris Cuomo’s NewsNation show, where the former Fox News host is a frequent guest.
“Look, it still means that the works got gummed up on Biden’s watch,” Cuomo said, responding to a caller who was asking whether the shutdown would affect polling. “And that may be relevant to people because they’re sensitive to problems. And the problem was on your watch. Bill?”
For perhaps the first time in his long broadcasting history, O’Reilly had no opinion.

Anderson Cooper believes the storm has passed at CNN.
Cooper spoke with People and admitted that the firing of network head Jeff Zucker, the dismissal of pundit Chris Cuomo, the resignation of news leader Chris Licht, the shuttering of the short-lived CNN+, and the departure of staffers like host Don Lemon created a situation where “morale was hurt by all the drama, and that’s unfortunate. But I think things feel like they are back on track.”
Cooper has been with the news and opinion network for two decades. He currently hosts “Anderson Cooper 360.”
CNN has now installed Mark Thompson as president beginning Oct. 9, and Cooper is encouraged by the new leadership.
“He sounds great,” said Cooper.
Mostly, he is grateful that things are not focused on the latest upheaval.

The kind of self-flaggellation the Left does is something you never see from the Right.
The Left’s fears about being in a bubble, about not doing enough to understand the other side, about their own overreach, are a phenomenon unique to liberals. There does not need to be a New York Times Pitchbot for the Right. Ben Shapiro is not issuing a blistering movie review takedown of a Dinesh D’Souza documentary that went too far and didn’t listen enough to the other side.
And now there’s “Coup!” Politically muddled at best, something Ron DeSantis would happily introduce at Cpac at worst, this populist satire from directors Austin Stark and Joseph Schuman is an Adam McKay-lite class-war confection looking to have it both ways. Its “eat the rich” message is certainly strong enough for those with an extremely niche grievance: Those who, three years later, want to...

The 1 percent may be enjoying some serious #lifegoals at the minute, but they’ve been having something of a tough time on screen. Parasite, Triangle of Sadness and The Menu are just a few recent films that have shifted the power dynamics away from the super wealthy and into the hands of those grubby lower classes, with sometimes deadly results. Coup! — from Austin Stark and Joseph Schuman, who both wrote and directed, and closing the Venice Days sidebar — is set to join this growing list.

NewsNation has bashed CNN in a new promo, noting that the network shouldn’t call itself the “most trusted name in news” if not covering all sides of a story on-air.
“Psst…Hey, CNN,” the promo began, immediately singling out the network. “If you want to call yourself the most trusted name in news…here’s an idea. Cover the news.”
The promo showed a clip of CNN in which anchor Jake Tapper noted they would not be carrying a Trump event live due to the controversial nature of the former president.
As of late, CNN has been cautious about showing footage of Trump on-air in an effort to curb the amount of misinformation spreading through his comments.
“Some of our competitors,” said NewsNation host Leland Vittert in the promo, “including CNN, have decided not to take these remarks” live.

CNN has announced a dramatic shake-up of its programming schedule, including new anchors for the morning, daytime, primetime, and weekend shows. Inside Politics Sunday host Abby Phillip will anchor the news network’s 10 pm hour on weekdays, with chief legal analyst Laura Coates anchoring the 11 pm slot. Elsewhere, chief national affairs analyst Kasie Hunt will anchor Early Start following the departure of the show’s long-time host Christine Romans last month. CNN This Morning is also receiving a makeover following the recent controversy that saw Don Lemon fired after making sexist remarks. The morning show’s long-time co-host Kaitlan Collins also exited the program to host the network’s 9 pm hour, replacing Chris Cuomo, who was fired in 2021 amid an inquiry into whether he aided his brother, former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo. Phil Mattingly, CNN’s chief White House correspondent, will now co-host CNN This Morning alongside the show’s long-time anchor Poppy Harlow.

The only thing more extra than a surprise birthday party might be a surprise birthday party live on cable TV – and that’s what Chris Cuomo got to celebrate his 53rd.
“Cuomo” was setting up to take viewer phone calls on Wednesday night when producer Alexandra “Dusty” Cohen stopped the host cold:
“You’ve got to listen to me – this is important. It’s your birthday, and we’re not taking calls. You’re just gonna listen to me and be quiet,” she said, basically asking the impossible of the talkative NewsNation anchor. “We put something together for you because we love you. I love you. A lot of people love you. … Be quiet and take a look.”
The first face onscreen belonged to Bill O’Reilly, Cuomo’s longtime friend – and one of the former CNN anchor’s many close media pals with whom he doesn’t share political views.

Amy Robach is reportedly on the cusp of landing a new gig, eight months after she and co-anchor T.J. Holmes were fired from ABC’s “GMA3” when news of their affair leaked.
According to the Daily Mail, Robach is on the verge of signing a new deal with News Nation, the fledgling cable news operation that picked up Chris Cuomo after he was dumped by CNN following an investigation that he helped his brother, former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, craft his legal defence over sexual harassment claims.
The Mail‘s report indicates that Holmes had also been angling for a job with News Nation, but was reportedly not considered over fears that the outlet could be perceived as a dumping ground for disgraced news anchors fired from other platforms.

Geraldo Rivera says it’s time to make “special prosecutor” a job title of the past in a sweeping legal and political movement that can only be described as “The Geraldo Reform.”
Rivera was on his old pal Chris Cuomo’s NewsNation show on Thursday night, with host and guest commiserating over the super-boom of federal and congressional political investigations.
“I think that one thing you can do right now – here is The Geraldo Reform,” Rivera said. “No more special prosecutors! There’s never been a special prosecutor that did not become ultimately self-serving.”
The first special prosecutor was appointed in 1875 by Ulysses Grant — and that didn’t end well, with the president and former Civil War general firing him – but the tradition of hiring “independent” counsel to investigate shenanigans has prevailed across administrations. Rivera suggested that the broadening infrastructure of employees for modern investigative teams will naturally look for ways to justify their existence.

When Sean Hannity handed off his Fox News program to Laura Ingraham last Thursday night, he had company.
On-air switches between cable-news hosts make for bright moments on Fox News, CNN and MSNBC, with the audiences at home and producers in studio looking at warm exchanges between personalities like Hannity and Ingraham or Rachel Maddow and Lawrence O’Donnell. The chatter between former CNN hosts Chris Cuomo and Don Lemon generated so much attention that producers often let the segment bleed into Lemon’s first segment of the night and even time reserved for commercials. These days, Hannity has begun letting a new crowd bear witness.
Since January of this year, Hannity has been hosting some editions of his regular 9 p.m. program in front of a live, in-studio audience consisting of a few dozen people. On Wednesdays and Thursdays, Fox News viewers can see the crowd as “Hannity” goes to commercial break,...

Update, Friday: Geraldo Rivera continued his criticisms of former colleagues at Fox News and at the network itself in an appearance later on Thursday on Chris Cuomo’s NewsNation show.

Rivera said that they gave him a “plethora of options,” including a series on the candidates for president, “and they said you could finish that up on Fox Nation to do that.” He declined.
Rivera said that he had a “toxic relationship” with one of The Five regulars, and although he didn’t identify him, he had previously clashed with Greg Gutfeld.

Hollywood political stalwart Jeffrey Katzenberg had some choice words to say about billionaire developer Rick Caruso and his 2022 mayoral campaign recently, accusing the former LA mayoral candidate of exploiting the homeless problem by giving tours of “Skid Row” to embarrass city officials.

Katzenberg, a political uber-donor, told Vanity Fair that Caruso should have put his money where his mouth is.

In NewsNation, New York City isn’t the de facto location for a morning-news program.
On Monday, the Nexstar Media-backed cable-news outlet expands its Chicago-based “Morning in America” to four hours and adds Markie Martin, formerly the network’s Dallas correspondent, as a co-anchor alongside Adrienne Bankert. There is some precedent for such a format. Robin Meade succeeded at it for 20 years by holding forth from Atlanta on behalf of Hln. Her program, “Morning Express,” was canceled earlier this year by Warner Bros. Discovery in a cost-cutting maneuver.
“I grew up in small-town Oklahoma, and often felt that national news networks catered more toward big-city lives,” says Martin in a recent interview. “I think our content lines up with what every American cares about on a daily basis.” Martin arrived in the Windy City for her new assignment just about a week ago, and was in need of furniture for her new apartment.

Chris Licht officially exited his position of CEO at CNN on Wednesday morning and, for many online, it was no big surprise. A fairly large swath of folks on Twitter actually dubbed it “karma” for Licht’s firing of CNN anchor Don Lemon.
Licht’s one-year tenure as CEO and Chairman of CNN Worldwide was turbulent from start to finish, with a disastrous Donald Trump town hall and an unflattering profile in The Atlantic finally breaking staff morale. Upon learning that Licht’s exit is effective immediately, Twitter users suspected that Lemon might be off somewhere celebrating the ouster of the man who ousted him in April.
“Somewhere Don Lemon is laughing his ass off about Chris Licht,” one person wrote. “Karma does work.”

Chris Licht is stepping down as CEO of CNN after barely a year on the job, the network announced on Wednesday. Licht’s brief, tumultuous tenure at the helm of the cable news giant was capped by a widely maligned decision to host a town hall event with Donald Trump last month, and the publication last week of a damning profile in The Atlantic. He will be replaced on an interim basis by longtime executive Amy Entelis, the network announced.

Chris Licht is stepping down as the chairman and CEO of CNN Worldwide, ending a tumultuous tenure as the first leader of the network under parent Warner Bros. Discovery.
Licht’s departure comes after a bombshell profile in The Atlantic infuriated staffers, already upset over the way that a recent town hall with President Donald Trump was handled.
Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav told staffers in CNN’s morning call that Licht was leaving and that a search was on for a new CEO. “It didn’t work out,” he said.
In a memo to staffers, Zaslav wrote, “This job was never going to be easy, especially at a time of great disruption and transformation, and Chris poured his heart and soul into it. He has a deep love for journalism and this business and that has been evident throughout his tenure. Unfortunately, things did not work out the...
Licht’s departure comes after a bombshell profile in The Atlantic infuriated staffers, already upset over the way that a recent town hall with President Donald Trump was handled.

Will the next James Bond be played by an actor of color? That debate on Chris Cuomo’s NewsNation show “Cuomo” Friday went completely off the rails when The Nation’s Elie Mystal went head to head with conservative commentator Scottie Nell Hughes.
Cuomo had pulled the duo who are on opposites of the political spectrum together to discuss a new report from Britain’s News Channel that, according to an industry insider, “the next James Bond won’t be white.” Ariel in the Disney remake “The Little Mermaid” was also mentioned as a white character who had been recast as nonwhite.
“And I thought that was a little bit more of an odd fit,” Cuomo went on. “But if you were going to play to the global palette, wouldn’t he, and if it’s for America, wouldn’t he be Latino? And if it’s for the world market,...

Following her role as moderator in the recent and controversial Donald Trump town hall, CNN has named Kaitlan Collins as the host of the network’s new as-yet-untitled weeknight show, occupying the high-profile (and formerly highest rated) 9 pm time slot. CNN chairman Chris Licht announced the promotion Wednesday, ahead of parent company Warner Bros. Discovery’s upfronts presentation.
“She is a smart and gifted journalist who we’ve all seen hold lawmakers and newsmakers accountable,” Licht wrote in a newsroom memo acquired by The New York Times. “Kaitlan will expose uncovered angles and challenge conventional wisdom to make sure viewers...

A year and a half after the termination of Chris Cuomo left the hour open, CNN has found a new 9 p.m. anchor.
Kaitlan Collins, currently the co-anchor of the channel’s CNN This Morning, will officially take over the hour. CNN anchor Anderson Cooper and Collins announced the promotion at the Warner Bros. Discovery upfront Wednesday morning in a video message.
Collins of course moderated CNN’s town hall with former President Donald Trump last week. While the town hall proved controversial, with a seemingly pro-Trump audience signaling approval of some of his more outrageous comments, CNN CEO Chris Licht defended it in a meeting with employees the next morning saying that America was “well served” by the event.
He also heaped praise on Collins “for what I can only call a masterful performance last night,” Licht said on the call. “I couldn’t be more proud of her...

Updated: CNN Worldwide CEO Chris Licht confirmed that Kaitlan Collins would be taking over the 9 p.m. Et primetime slot, filling a major hole in the network schedule as it faces sagging ratings.
The move had been expected, as Collins, who is co-anchor of the network’s morning show, also has been among the rotating hosts to have filled the slot since the firing of Chris Cuomo in December, 2021. Licht announced the move in a memo to staffers on Wednesday, and later Collins appeared at the Warner Bros. Discovery upfront presentation along with Licht and Anderson Cooper.
“The new show is going to feature thoughtful perspectives, spirited conversation and respectful debate around the day’s top news, and I will be in good company,” Collins told advertisers.

The mystery surrounding Tucker Carlson’s ouster from the airwaves at Fox News — and his future plans in media — are coming into sharper focus.
On April 26, Carlson spoke by phone with one of Fox Corp.’s eight board members, who told the host that his recent benching was a condition of Fox News’ settlement with Dominion Voting Systems, according to multiple sources with knowledge of the conversation.
The unnamed board member told Carlson that the condition does not appear in any of the settlement’s documents, and instead was a verbal agreement. If Fox didn’t comply, the settlement was off, Carlson was told. Dominion had plenty of leverage given that the $787.5 million deal to settle Dominion’s defamation suit against the network wouldn’t officially close until late-May.
If Dominion opted to blow up the deal, Fox would return to square one on settlement talks or potentially subject the...

CNN on Wednesday broadcast one of the most controversial news events of the year, a runaway town hall interview with former President Donald Trump, and advertisers like Subaru and Fidelity Investments went along for the ride. There are new questions about whether all of Madison Avenue will do so in the future.
The nation’s big TV-news outlets are about to enter what should be a healthy cycle. The closer the U.S. gets to a presidential election, the more audiences tend to watch. CNN, for example, has indicated it expects to telecast more primetime town halls with candidates (last week’s lured nearly 3.31 million viewers), while Fox News Channel is expected to broadcast the Republican Party’s first primary debate in August.
These types of events usually snare big hauls of advertising. And yet, there are signs that advertisers are weary of the hassles their support of news programming will bring,...
