In the history of The CW’s Riverdale creating some of the most bonkers moments of television, fans will always tout the first season as its best. Premiering in 2017, the young adult drama takes the classic characters from Archie Comics and puts them in a nostalgic and Lynchian atmosphere while they try to get through the trials of high school. Romance and family problems run rampant, but that wasn’t the only draw to the series. The first episode revolves around the death of Jason Blossom, twin to Cheryl and son of the richest family in town.

As teens are wont to do, these characters take it upon themselves to solve the murder, which brings them to red herrings and false confessions galore.

It is a tragic fact of life that some people die before their time. Actors who are at the top of their game are sometimes fighting health battles the rest of the world knows nothing about, and unfortunately, those battles sometimes claim their lives.

The cast of the 90s hit teen drama Beverly Hills, 90210 have paid tribute to their recently deceased co-star Shannen Doherty. The actor passed away on July 13 at the age of 53.

In a statement to TV Line, Gabrielle Carteris, who played the socially awkward school newspaper editor Andrea Zuckerman in Beverly Hills, 90210 said, "Shannen was so young and so courageous. By sharing her journey, she has helped so many. My heart goes out to her family and I know that Luke [Perry] is welcoming her with open arms."

Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, showrunner for The CW's Riverdale, has teased Shannen Doherty's role could be bigger than expected.

"I am still processing my tremendous grief over the loss of my long-time friend Shannen, the woman I have often described as one of the strongest people I have ever known," Jennie Garth wrote on Instagram.

Shannen Doherty, the actress best known for playing Brenda Walsh in "Beverly Hills 90210" and Prue Halliwell in "Charmed," has died at the age of 53 after living with breast cancer for almost a decade. The news was first shared with People by Doherty's publicist, Leslie Sloane, who released the following statement:

"It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of actress Shannen Doherty. On Saturday, July 13, she lost her battle with cancer after many years of fighting the disease. The devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend was surrounded by her loved ones as well as her dog, Bowie. The family asks for their privacy at this time so they can grieve in peace."

Riverdale executive producer Sarach Schechter recently named the late Luke Perry as the series veteran she most would've liked to see return for the CW series' last-ever episode.

Schechter opened up about Perry's absence from Season 7, Episode 20, "Chapter One Hundred Thirty-Seven: Goodbye, Riverdale," in an interview with Variety. "Yeah, if [showrunner] Roberto [Aguirre-Sacasa] had his way, everybody that's ever been on the show would be in every episode," she said. "It was great to have so many people back. I mean, the person I wish that was there more than anyone was Luke Perry. I wish he was still here... He was the heart and soul in a lot of ways, and was such a father figure to everyone -- especially [Archie Andrews actor] Kj [Apa]. My only regret is he's not here.

With the series finale of Riverdale just days away, Cole Sprouse says he still thinks about how Luke Perry guided the cast of the hit series when Season 1 began filming.

"I think he knew everything we were all going to be going through. And I often think about how he would be sitting answering these questions if he were still with us," Sprouse, who plays Jughead Jones on the show, told Vulture. "He had this way of speaking where he got super-close to your face that was really beautiful and passionate." Perry played Fred Andrews during the first three seasons of Riverdale. He died of a stroke in March 2019. The cast paid tribute to the popular 90210 actor during the series' Season 4 premiere.

The fourth season of Riverdale has only just begun, and already it's been an emotional ride. But if you're not one of the many who watch the series live each week, you're probably already asking one big question: when will Riverdale's fourth season be available on Netflix? Riverdale, currently airing its fourth season on The CW, is a teen drama that serves as a darker take to the Archie Comics. With the same characters that are slightly revamped for modern times, it’s thoroughly entertaining TV if you’re into that kind of thing.

Through the seasons, the story has focused on the four main characters you know from the popular comics: Archie, Betty, Veronica, and Jughead. But there are other characters, like Josie (from Josie and the Pussycats), Cheryl, Reggie, and more.

While all of the cast members get quite a bit of screen time throughout each hour-long episode, some deserve it more than others. Here are 5 characters we’d love to see more of, and 5 that, if they had less screen time, we wouldn’t be mad about it. (Note: some mild spoilers ahead.)

To say that the season finale of Riverdale was eventful is an exercise in understatement. Not only did we get a resolution of the Black Hood and Gargoyle King storylines, Penelope Blossom established herself as the show's primary antagonist, Alice's true intentions with The Farm were revealed, Hiram began a quest of vengeance against his family, Betty lost a father and gained a step-brother, Cheryl was reunited with Jason and, most importantly, a Lost-esque flash-forward illustrated how brutal the future will be for Archie, Veronica, Betty, and Jughead.

It was all a bit epic, and a more-than-satisfying conclusion to Riverdale's uneven third season. But with so much happening in the episode, it's understandable if you missed something. Drawing from evidence that the show has already given us,...

2.4 The Town That Dreaded Sundown

At the end of tonight's exhilarating episode, Jughead grimly states that "Riverdale would no longer be the town with pep, from now on it would be the town that dreaded sundown." It's a completely melodramatic moment, one that beautifully illustrates how, early in its second season, the series is unafraid to double down on its inherent ridiculousness. It would be far easier for Riverdale to play its world of pixie stick-drug addicts, anachronistic gangs, and nonsensical musical performances with a nod and a wink. But the fact that everything is played so earnestly makes it work so much...

Recently, The CW delivered up the official episode press release for their upcoming "Riverdale" episode 4 of the current season 2. It features a teaser description that describes some of the scenes that we can expect to see take place in the episode. It sounds like some very dangerous and more intense stuff will be taking place in this one as Archie's new crazy plan to go after the killer takes a nasty turn! Betty and Jughead start to experience problems in their relationship! A big showdown is going to happen and more! The press release also revealed that episode 4 is entitled, "Chapter Seventeen: The Town That Dreaded Sundown." CW started off their main description putting the words: "Terror In Riverdale" in all capital letters. I don't know about you guys, but that definitely tells us that things are about to get real intense. No doubt about that. Next, they described...

(Spoilers ahead for the October 18 episode of “Riverdale,” “Nighthawks”) So at the end of this week’s “Riverdale,” the man with the hood showed up again to do some more murder. That’s not surprising on any level, obviously, since that guy is at the center of the plot of the show in season 2. First he shot Fred Andrews in the season 1 finale, then he returned in the season 2 premiere to kill Ms. Grundy with a cello bow. So while not surprising that this guy is at it again, the method is a bit surprising, because it’s a pretty.

Originally, Archie Andrews and his pals at Riverdale High reflected the codification of teenage life, as they had more leisure time and disposable income. Once it hit big, the comic series and its infinite number of spinoffs, became stuck in amber, barely trying to keep up with changing trends (other than fashion) or concerns for teens. Riverdale ended its first season with a bang on Thursday! Just as the town was unraveling the truth behind Jason Blossom’s death, another shocking blow came in the finale’s last moments, when Fred Andrews (Luke Perry) was gunned down during a robbery at Pop's Chock'lit Shoppe as son Archie (Kj Apa) helplessly tried to intervene.

Et hopped on the phone with Riverdale executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who stayed mum on Fred’s fate, but dished on how the shocking events of the finale -- which included intense family drama for Betty (Lili Reinhart), Veronica (Camila Mendes) and Jughead (Cole Sprouse), as well -- will affect each character as Riverdale looks ahead to its second season.

Thinking cynically, Riverdale was never going to fail. It’s the ultimate teen drama, that golden mix of arch self-reflexivity and soapy melodrama, with a moody, neon aesthetic that Tumblr has predictably lapped up in gif form. It boasts the hottest young cast this side of Gossip Girl, and for older viewers there’s a lure in having 90s stars like Skeet Ulrich, Mädchen Amick and Luke Perry fill out the parental roles. And this is all without mentioning that the show is executive-produced by godfather of The CW, Greg Berlanti.

It certainly helps, too, that Riverdale is one of the most fun teen dramas to come out of the last few years.

When the murder of Jason Blossom is solved, what comes next for Riverdale? According to Luke Perry, who plays Fred Andrews on the show, perhaps another murder will shake the group. When asked about how the show will transpire in season two, after Jason's killer has been revealed, Luke wasn't quick to dismiss the idea that more tragedy could strike. "That's a murder, for instance. Other things could happen. Riverdale is that kind of town. Bodies wash up," said Luke at the Paley Center on Thursday. He could be kidding, of course. The 90210 heartthrob stole the show at the panel after a screening of episode 11, joking that he "enjoyed his time on the show." Over the next two Riverdale episodes, the red heads will rule! In "Chapter Nine: La Grande Illusion," Cheryl Blossom makes the moves on Archie during her family's annual maple syrup tapping event. That will certainly be overshadowed by the arrival of Mary Andrews' played by Molly Ringwald in next week's "Chapter Ten: The Lost Weekend."

BuddyTV caught up with Kj Apa (Archie Andrews), Luke Perry (Fred Andrews) and Executive Producers Sarah Schechter, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, and Jon Goldwater during Wondercon to find out about Archie's new relationship with Cheryl and Mary's appearance in town.

Polly's baby shower on Riverdale Season 1 Episode 8 was supposed to be her night to celebrate. After what happened to Jason, I had high hopes. She deserved a better night.

Of all the comic book adaptations that have flooded film and television in recent years, perhaps none are as ambitious as Riverdale. The CW’s attempt to transport the family-friendly cast of Archie Comics into a dark and soapy teen drama could have been disastrous, but instead, it looks to be a very promising offering, calling to mind some of the network’s greatest hits, like Gossip Girl and One Tree Hill.

Here’s six reasons why you should set your DVR for Riverdale, and prepare yourselves for a new fave.

1. A Cast of New, New Hotties (like The O.C. blessed us with)

One of the greatest things a teen drama can do is introduce viewers to a whole new cast of nearly-unknown hotties to swoon over. This is why certain segments of the population still dream of Adam Brody as the ultimate boyfriend or give Jared Leto a pass for almost anything.

When Riverdale premieres on the CW on January 26th, it will mark a milestone for Archie Comics - the first time in the company's 75-year history that its characters will truly shine on television. A mix of gleefully ridiculous kitsch with standout performances and some truly smart writing, the series is poised to be 2017's breakout TV hit.

There have been many attempts to bring Archie and his friends to TV before, but these all suffered for either being shoddily animated (the various 1960s cartoons), misguided (1990's Archie: To Riverdale and Back Again), or just plain, um, weird (the X-Files cash-in Archie's Weird Mysteries...
