More than a decade has passed since The Slamdance Guerrilla Game Competition was removed from Utah’s annual independent film festival following an online furor over the entry and consequent removal of the controversial game “Super Columbine Massacre RPG!”. But the decision to close the Guerrilla showcase “was not based on controversy,” Slamdance President Peter Baxter tells Variety.
“It was based on being able to properly focus support for our artists and the desire to broaden the array of artists working in digital, immersive and gaming media.”
“For 25 years Slamdance has broken boundaries by championing works and the artists who’ve made them. We’ve been criticized and celebrated for doing so. We answer to no one. We’re aware our programming decisions sometimes upset people, especially with works like ‘Waco Resurrection,’ ‘Graphic Sexual Horror,’ ‘Super Columbine Massacre’ and this year’s’ Dollhouse.’

The Park City festival is building out its second Los Angeles showcase dedicated to emerging independent artists and storytellers working in hybrid, immersive and emerging forms of digital media art.
Slamdance alumni including last year’s Dig (Digital, Interactive & Gaming) artists will curate the 2016 event, which will open at Big Pictures in Los Angeles and run from December 2-11.
Following a strong reception for last year’s inaugural Dig, Slamdance alumnus Dekker Dreyer of content creator Clever Fox has put his weight behind Dig’s growth and said he will be looking for collaborators from the 2016 crop of participants.
“At Slamdance, we’re always about finding recognition for emerging artists and helping them get to the next level of their career,” said Slamdance president and co-founder Peter Baxter.
“As a community we look to our alumni to help achieve this goal. It’s perfect for Dig to be able to do that with Dekker and his company...

Update: The Arcadian will be having it's world premier at the Sci-Fi London Film Festival which coincidentally is one of our favorite festivals.
When Ao wrote about this film at the end of 2009, we didn't have a plot synopsis and we still don't. However, we do know it has something to do with a character called "the lighthouse keeper" who is on a trip for revenge and redemption in a "strange future world".
Strange indeed. The trailer itself is reminiscent of trailer styles from an era past, and furthermore evokes the "dying world in madness" feeling I get from one of my favorite films, Shatter Dead.
Want a recap? This is all they're giving out at this point:
In a dying future a man who’s lost everything returns to the place that took it from him.
The Arcadian is written and directed by Dekker Dreyer and stars J. Larose (Saw III,...

Emissary revealed itself to the web series world amid the superhero sci-fi hustle and bustle of New York Comic-Con this weekend. Starring Philip Morris (that's Smallville and Meet the Spartans Philip Morris, not tobacco company Philip Morris) and co-created by Morris and Dekker Dreyer, former artistic director of the Illusion On Demand network as well as the mind behind Tentacle Grape Soda, Emissary appears to be a rather high-concept science fiction web series about an ages-old struggle between "peak humans" chosen by fate to lead humanity, and those who want their power. What this actually entails is open to interpretation, but the trailer seems to indicate that deliciously mopey shots of New York City, black clothing, and a chance for Morris to show off his martial arts prowess are all going to be had in abundance. Sadly, we'll have to wait a while for this one - Emissary isn't supposed...

Tired of Red Bull and all its various knock-offs? Looking for something a little different to wet your whistle and recharge your battery? Why not try some Tentacle Grape?
This new beverage, inspired by the genre of adult Japanese animation called Hentai, is a perfect caffeine rush developed by Mnemosyne LLC in conjunction with the folks who put on the Anime After Dark Film Festival. "Obviously I don’t take the brand very seriously… we can’t. The best I can do is develop products that I’d want to buy myself, and frankly this is the right combination of ridiculous and delicious," says brand creator Dekker Dreyer.
Each 12-oz. glass bottle of Tentacle Grape comes with a collector's edition label limited to the first thousand cases. Six-packs are currently available for pre-order at TentacleGrape.com for $15.99 plus shipping. Orders placed before January 5, 2009, will be eligible for complimentary Tentacle Grape branded condoms or bumper stickers.
