From Goblin's signature theme for "Suspiria" to the viral success of Richard Carter's "Talk To Me" track "Le Monde," the right song at the right time can be the making of a great horror movie. "We can try a billion songs," says Matt Bettinelli-Olpin — co-director with Tyler Gillett of upcoming ballerina vampire movie "Abigail" — but when they hit on the perfect track, "We go, 'Oh f**k, that's the song. That's great. It hits all the notes."
Sometimes the right song isn't out there yet, and the movie calls for a new one to be written from scratch. When the directing duo needed an old-timey "Hide and Seek" tune with a Vincent Price-esque narrator for their 2019 horror-comedy "Ready or Not," they couldn't find one — so they asked "Southbound" composers Louis Castle and James Bairian (known collectively as The Gifted) to write something original. Five months after one of Linkin Park’s former bassists sued the band over unpaid royalties connected to their Hybrid Theory reissue, the group’s lawyers filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit.
In the motion filed Tuesday, Linkin Park’s legal team cited a number of “defects” with Kyle Christner’s lawsuit, most notably that the statute of limitations had “long since passed,” Billboard reports.

A bassist has filed a lawsuit against Linkin Park over credit and unpaid royalties on more than 20 songs, as reported by Billboard.
In a complaint filed in Los Angeles on Wednesday (November 8th), Kyle Christner claimed he has “never been paid a penny” for his work on songs included in the Hybrid Theory 20th anniversary box set released by Linkin Park in 2020. According to Christner, one of the band’s representatives contacted him last April and said he was owed royalties for songs included in the collection. “You get mechanical royalties for 3 demos and the 6-song Hybrid Theory EP that you performed on,” the email allegedly stated.
Christner said in the lawsuit that he believes his work appears on “more than twenty songs” in the 2020 re-release. However, when he tried to reach back out to the person who contacted him, they “went dark.”

Metallica are considered an elite live act, and they take their craft seriously enough to release soundboard recordings of nearly every live performance.
In other words, Metallica mean business when they’re onstage, and few have dared to interrupt the thrash legends when they’re in the midst of a set — even for a good laugh. However, one band decided to push the envelope back in 2003… with the blessing of Metallica’s security.
Linkin Park vocalist/guitarist Mike Shinoda recently recalled a humorous anecdote about the time his band broke ground and became the first band to prank Metallica onstage. It happened toward the tail-end of Metallica’s “Summer Sanitarium” tour with Linkin Park.

Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda has released a new single called “Already Over,” a straight-ahead rocker with elements of pop-punk and power pop.
While the tune is noticeably different from Linkin Park’s music, Shinoda explains that there is a commonality in the sound, including one of the instruments he used to record the new track.
“‘Already Over’ came to me as I was sitting with my favorite guitar in my hands — the same guitar I used on songs from ‘What I’ve Done’ to ‘In My Head,’” remarked Shinoda, who played all instruments on the song. “There was a familiar DNA to the song that I think Linkin Park fans will recognize. For me, it creates a bridge from the past to a blurry but exciting future.”

Linkin Park have shared another unreleased track, “Fighting Myself,” form the upcoming 20th anniversary reissue of their second album, Meteora, out April 7.
“Fighting Myself” is vintage Linkin Park, with Mike Shinoda spitting angst-ridden bars over simmering production, before late singer Chester Bennington bursts in with a monster chorus, paired with arena-sized guitars. “Falling from grace I watch it all come apart,” Bennington sings, “Knowing I could’ve changed it all from the start/Fighting myself, I always lose.”
“Fighting Myself’ — which arrives with an animated music video directed by Jacky Lu and made with Kaiber.

Linkin Park’s sophomore album, Meteora, celebrates its 20th anniversary on Saturday (March 25). In honor of the milestone, the band is gearing up to release a 20th anniversary deluxe reissue of the multiplatinum effort. Now, Linkin Park have debuted a second previously unreleased song from those sessions, “Fighting Myself.”
“Fighting Myself” follows “Lost,” which the band released in February. While “Lost” highlights the late Chester Bennington’s melodic vocals, “Fighting Myself” sees Mike Shinoda rapping the verses and Bennington coming in on the chorus to plead, “Fighting myself, I always lose.”
“Lost” recently went to No. 1 on the rock and alternative radio charts. Time will tell if “Fighting Myself” sees the same trajectory.
The 20th anniversary reissue of Meteora will hit stores on April 7 in a variety of packages, including a limited-edition super deluxe box set, a vinyl box set, a deluxe 3-cd version, and as a digital download. To pre-order the collection,...

Mike Shinoda wouldn’t want to perform with a hologram of Linkin Park’s late lead vocalist Chester Bennington.
Bennington died by suicide in July 2017, and his death is, understandably, “a very sensitive subject,” Shinoda said.

I will always remember 2021 as the year Paramore's "Decode" finally came back to Spotify. The band wrote and recorded the broody, pop-goth anthem for the original "Twilight" movie in 2008, the same year Spotify launched. The "Twilight" soundtrack did massive numbers in traditional sales, and translated that popularity onto emerging streaming platforms. But after some time, it seems the rights holders of the "Twilight" Ost had some kind of clash with Spotify. For years, the entire soundtrack was available to stream there -- except for "Decode."
The absence of the song on the internet's most popular music streamer drove desperate fans in higher numbers than ever to YouTube, where, mercifully, the music video has remained available to watch since 2008. To date, the video for "Decode," in which Hayley Williams and band rock out in a forest clearing as Edward, Bella, and their nemeses zip by with fangs bared, has racked up 108,000+ comments 436 million views.

Grammy-nominated global superstar Demi Lovato has released ‘Still Alive’, her new original song for the upcoming horror film Scream VI. The high energy track arrives alongside the aptly aesthetic music video. The visual sees the world of the film invade reality when Demi and her friends attend a private screening of Scream VI, only to find themselves being hunted by Ghostface himself.
Demi assumes the iconic role of “Final Girl” as she faces off with her assailant in the video’s final act. The video was directed by Jensen Noen and features cameos from Mike Shinoda and Spencer Charnas (Ice Nine Kills). The song was written by Lovato, Shinoda, and Laura Veltz. The video made its global broadcast premiere on MTV Live, Mtvu, MTV Biggest Pop and across MTV’s global network of channels, as well as on the Paramount Times Square billboards.

When you play a song on major streaming platforms, money doesn’t just zoom straight into an artist’s pocket. But what if it did? That’s how payments are designed to work on Audius, a platform built on a blockchain — yes, the same technological network that NFTs run on.
And this three-year-old San Francisco-based company that employs fewer than 40 crypto-crazed people has officially piqued the interest of some of music’s biggest power players. Later today (September 16th), Audius will announce a $5 million round of strategic funding led by major music celebrities,...

If the music streaming landscape were a horse race, Audius would be a multi-colored pigmy unicorn. The young blockchain-powered service may be hard to spot in the dust that trails stallions like Spotify and Apple Music, but it has been steadily making headway since its arrival in 2018. As “crypto” emerged as a pop culture buzz word in 2021, though, Audius grew significantly, rising from less than a million monthly active users in January to five million in August.

In the early days of Covid-19 lockdowns, Mike Shinoda felt stuck. Unlike many of his peers, the multi-talented Linkin Park co-founder didn’t view virtual concerts as a compelling option. “I saw a lot of artists doing livestream performances, and my reaction to that was, immediately, that’s not for me,” he says. “Number one, I want the experience of watching a show to be very personal. … So what can I make that offers the fans something brand new and different and cool and fun every single day?”
His answer came through Twitch.

James Murdoch’s Lupa Systems has invested in Authentic Artists, a seed-stage startup that Wednesday launched a new AI-powered virtual artist platform for music, gaming and streaming applications.
Chris McGarry, who previously led music integration at Facebook’s Oculus, is the founder and CEO of the San Francisco-based company. He said the platform, which instantly composes and produces fully-formed, high-quality songs performed by AI-powered virtual artists, enables “entirely new, never-before-seen virtual music experiences designed to serve the evolving preferences, tastes and desires of fans searching for truly unique content.”
It can deliver these interactive experiences, or what it calls “adaptive” or “generative” music, across the globe, 24 hours a day to all connected channels.
The company noted that popular virtual concerts on Fortnite and Roblox in 2020 showed “there are now billions of gamers globally for whom the traditional lines between music and gaming are blurred, or even non-existent. Authentic Artists offers...

Last week, Kings of Leon became the first band to a release a new album as a non-fungible token (Nft) — and a representative tells Rolling Stone that the band has already grossed more than $2 million in sales, with $600,000 of that going to Crew Nation. While Kings weren’t the first musicians to ever distribute work this way, their high-profile project brought in a slew of curious fans and spotlighted a burgeoning tech trend that was — until recently — flying under the radar as a fringe craze.

100 Gecs have dropped a wild reimagining of Linkin Park’s classic, “One Step Closer,” marking the first in a series of remakes to further celebrate the 20th anniversary of the band’s 2000 debut, Hybrid Theory.
The track starts off pretty faithful to the original, with 100 Gecs recasting the intro with a bit more Edm wobble. But by the first chorus, the song explodes into a surreal yet cohesive collage of genres — one that, of course, would make Linkin Park proud — with both Laura Les and Dylan Brady adding their vocals to the song.

“It’s amazing to hear Robert rework one of our songs and sneak his voice in there,” Deftones’ Chino Moreno told NME of the remix. “If you’d have told me that when I was 15 years old, I would have lost my fucking mind and not believed a word you were saying. It was a dream.”

Linkin Park shared a rare early demo, “She Couldn’t,” one of several previously unreleased tracks set to appear on the 20th-anniversary edition of the band’s debut album, Hybrid Theory, out October 9th via Warner Records.
Bootleg versions of “She Couldn’t” have been floating around fan circles for some time, although this marks the first official release of the track. The song settles and stays in a distinctly mellow groove, with a simple guitar loop twisting around trip-hop drums, with synths and record-scratching adding texture. The chorus features...

Just in time for the holidays is Disney+ original new movie Lady And The Tramp.
In Disney+’s “Lady and the Tramp,” life is good for Lady, an overachieving American Cocker Spaniel who resides in an upscale suburban neighborhood. Her owners, Jim Dear and Darling, spoil her daily and her neighbors, Jock, an outspoken Scottish Terrier and Trusty, a world-weary Bloodhound, are always within barking distance. But when a baby enters the picture, Lady is no longer the center of attention, and the arrival of cat-loving Aunt Sarah only complicates matters. Lady soon finds herself alone on the streets in an unwelcoming part of town. Fortunately, Tramp steps in, and the streetwise mongrel is quick to teach her the ways of the world. Before long, the prim and proper purebred and the fast-talking mutt are partaking in moonlight strolls in the park and romantic spaghetti dinners by candlelight.

Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda unveiled two new songs, “Prove You Wrong” and “What the Words Meant.” Both tracks appear on the new deluxe edition of Shinoda’s solo debut, Post Traumatic.
“Prove You Wrong” finds Shinoda alternately spitting and singing as the song deftly moves between a stomping verse and a solemn chorus. This back-and-forth steadily builds to the song’s final moments, where Shionda bellows, “So welcome to the breakdown/Tired of playing games now/Make it no mistake/I will prove you wrong.”

The Conner family is down a man — err, woman — and “playing catch-up” with the rest of broadcast TV’s fall slate right now, according to ABC Entertainment Group President, Channing Dungey.
The network chief told TheWrap during the Television Critics Association press tour Tuesday that she has seen three outlines for the “Roseanne” spinoff, “The Conners,” sans lead Roseanne Barr — but no script yet. And Dungey says the fact they are “behind compared to everybody else” in production is the reason the (kinda) new show didn’t present a panel during the press tour today.
“We had that sort of stutter step in terms of getting up and running,” Dungey told TheWrap, two months after the network canceled “Roseanne,” following an offensive “Planet of the Apes” remark Barr made about ex-Obama advisor Valerie Jarrett, and then ordered “The Conners.”
