“If it’s Biden against Trump, Biden will win – that’s a good bet,” Bill Maher predicted to Jake Tapper tonight on CNN of a potential 2024 showdown between the 2020 rivals.
“I think he’s done the job perfectly fine .. generally, he’s restored normality,” the Real Time with Bill Maher host said of the 46th Potus in the first edition of the CNN Primetime on Tuesday. “I don’t mind at all that he’s 82, 84, 86,” Maher added, taking on one of the top Joe Biden critiques. “We have an important decision to make, go to the elders,” the comedian went on to say with a swing at a society that doesn’t value the aged – though Maher admitted Biden was no “James Brown at the Apollo.”

CNN hopes it’s finally hit upon a way to solve a long-vexing puzzle: What should it be airing at 9 p.m.? The solution requires the network to fit together many pieces.
Starting this week, the Warner Bros. Discovery-backed news outlet will fill the hour with a range of different special reports, all under the rubric of “CNN Primetime.” Future 9 p.m. hours could include one-on-one interviews with newsmakers; town halls that put government officials in direct contact with the people affected by policy decisions; and other programs that feature surprising “gets” and scoops. The programming gambit backs away from the tried-and-true practice of relying on a single anchor or opinion host in the time slot, home to Sean Hannity, Alex Wagner and Rachel Maddow, and banks instead on creative ways of analyzing the news cycle.
CNN announced earlier Monday that anchor Laura Coates would on Wednesday at 9 p.

Phil Mattingly is being promoted to CNN’s chief White House correspondent, following the departure of Kaitlan Collins to the network’s revitalized morning show.
Mattingly previously served as senior White House correspondent covering the Biden administration. He previously was a congressional correspondent. He joined the network in 2015 and covered Republican candidates on the campaign trail, including Chris Christie, John Kasich, and Donald Trump. On the White House beat, he broke news including Biden’s plans to sanction Vladimir Putin, details on a multinational effort to target Russian supply chains and developments on the president’s Opec negotiations.
Collins served as chief White House correspondent since the start of the Biden administration, but left the beat to serve as co-host of CNN This Morning along with Poppy Harlow and Don Lemon.
The network also promoted Mj Lee to senior White House correspondent, having started on the beat in 2021. She broke...

Jake Tapper, the Washington-based correspondent for CNN, will likely get a new spotlight at the network after it said it would expand his weekday program to two hours and make him the lead anchor for all Washington events. The move is part of a broader shakeup of the cable-news outlet’s Washington coverage, which has taken over more of its schedule in the last few months of the Trump administration.
As part of the changes, Abby Phillip will take over as anchor of the weekend broadcast of “Inside Politics,” while Dana Bash will co-anchor the Sunday talk program “State of the Union” with Tapper. Tapper and Bash will each anchor two Sundays a month, beginning January 24th.

Including: Dana Bash, Kaitlan Collins, Jessica Dean, Daniella Diaz, Annie Grayer, Kyung Lah, Mj Lee, Abby Phillip, Arlette Saenz, and Jasmine Wright. It's impressive how fast they took current events...
