He began his broadcasting career at the age of 16, as a high-school sports announcer on the radio in Edmonton, Alberta.
He had encyclopedic knowledge and ability to remember vast amounts of sports information. His broadcast career included 21 sports, including baseball, football, hockey, curling, golf, boxing, and several Olympic sports.
He was the original TV announcer for the Toronto Blue Jays baseball team. He called their games for two decades.
