There are a few key pieces in any wardrobe that are notoriously hard to find. That perfect-fitting boyfriend jean that’s both baggy and sexy, that one pair of stilettos that won’t cause severe foot pain and a form-fitting white shirt that’s not completely sheer. While I want to tackle all three style conundrums, my first goal for 2018 is to find the latter and build up my white shirt collection.
White shirts are one of those items that I get too nervous to buy online (you never know how opaque they’ll be in real life) and even...

Who Tried It: Sarah Ball, People Market Editor
Why We Tried It: As the Market Editor for People Style, I do a lot of trend forecasting based on what I see on the red carpets and in stores. And despite putting together outfits for actual people, like friends and co-workers, I’ve never actually tried my hand at styling a real celebrity (which has been a dream of mine ever since I draped my little sister in “gowns” I made from bed sheets when I was just a girl!). So, when Orange Is the New Black star Danielle Brooks said...

Eva Mendes never gets it wrong when it comes to her sartorial choices. But for the mother of two, who gave birth to her second daughter with husband Ryan Gosling last April, her looks have taken a backseat to her busy day-to-day routine with her children. The 43-year-old actress just launched her latest clothing collection with New York & Company and caught up with PeopleStyle to talk about the line, her date night looks, and how she makes it out the door on time. And as it turns out, it’s not as easy as she makes it appear.

While some stores are just getting rid of their winter stock in the form of major markdowns and serious deals, Neiman Marcus knows what you’re really after: your beach wardrobe. The department store is currently holding not one but two amazing sales, including lots of the summery stuff you want to be wearing right now! The first is 40 percent off an enormous selection of shoes, while the second, a “Swim + Sun” sale, offers 25-30 percent off tons of swimsuits, sunglasses and coverups—but act fast: the shoe sale ends May 20, while the swim sale ends May 21.

The SAG Awards were last night, and though the red carpet was many things, you certainly couldn’t call it boring. Kristen Bell in Jenny Packham: It’s impossible not to stare at the actress’s perfectly spray-tanned cleavage in this black sequin gown. While the plunging square neckline packs some serious sex appeal, the design remains balanced thanks to the long-sleeves and flowing skirt. And if you think Bell’s glowing more than normal, that’s because she’s wearing more than 115 carats of diamonds courtesy of Harry Winston, including a pair of vintage 1963 three row diamond hoop earrings weighing in at 42.54-carats and a 68.57-carat bracelet. –Brittany Talarico, Senior Style Editor

When Melissa McCarthy launched her clothing line, Melissa McCarthy Seven7, she told PeopleStyle that her goal was to be inclusive of all sizes and flatter all women. She launched it with sizes 4 to 24, because, as she told People, “My whole point is to stop categorizing women. I’m making clothes for women, period. I can’t control who puts what where in the store , but I’m putting it all up on my website.” And while she was excited to introduce clothes with fun prints and sleeves, she was most excited to “build a closet for myself” that involved a great pair of denim.

Today Wwd’s John Koblin published a buzzy piece about an unofficial fraternity of male magazine editors, or “dude-itors.” These men drink Scotch, climb on roofs, and brag about “schooling” one another at basketball. As we said, “dude-itors.” Below, Vf.com associate editor Sarah Ball and Vf Daily blogger Juli Weiner discuss a pivotal early moment in the article: New York Times Magazine editor Hugo Lindgren orders a “sparkler” and his dining companions, Bon Appetit editor Adam Rapoport, New York Times food critic Sam Sifton, and Random House editor Andy Ward totally rag on him for it. Juli: Sarah, welcome to a theoretical restaurant. I hear it’s quite good here. What will you have to drink? Sarah: Hmm, Juli, you know what? I’m really in the mood for a sparkler. Juli: Wow! I’ll have a sparkler, too! I’ll also have a Diet Sprite. Now Sarah, if I were a man,...

Who is Sarah Ball and why is she saying awful things about Emo Phillips? And, why is she not saying awful things about Robin Williams? I.E., if she is going to bash those twelve, she ought to also be brave enough, and have the critical eye required, to take on sacred cow comedians like Williams and George Carlin. Okay, first, let's run down the twelve she does go after: 1) Larry the Cable Guy: Is funny to the type of people who think Larry the Cable Guy is funny. And, he's likable, likable, likable. That's how he Git(s) Er Done. 2) Carlos Mencia: Ms. Ball got this one right. (If Carlos Mencia didn't steal jokes he'd be the unfunny-ist comedian since ... Jessica Barnes at Cinematical later responded with favor towards the living dead over the undead. But zombies are not a trend; they'll always be around, at least in the background via low-budget horror cinema. The real question lately shoul ...

The battle of the undead on the big screen has been under way for some time now, and after months of hearing that vampires are taking over pop culture, it seems like we shouldn't quite put our friends the zombies (no, not those ones) down for the count. Over at Newsweek, Sarah Ball put together a few reasons as to why zombies will never beat vampires in a pop-culture zeitgeist-off thanks to our long-standing love-affair with the pale tortured types. But just this weekend, audiences proved that when it comes to the walking dead, the zombies still have what it takes to bring in the crowds.
Everybody has their personal preferences (and man I love those bloodsuckers), so even though I've watched more vampire content than I care to remember (I even sat through the pilot of The Vampire Diaries), and I'll always be a dedicated 'fan of the fang',...

In expectation of Sacha Baron Cohen's latest ambush comedy film, Brüno, arriving in theaters this weekend, discussion of Cohen's gay fashionista character — and whether the movie is likely to hurt or help gays — has heated up considerably. (Check out our take here.)
We thought now a good time to see what some media had to say about the topic.
Out Magazine
I read Mo Rocca's interview with Brüno for Out before I took a good look at the cover. Turns out the magazine overpromises with its headline asking "Can The Agent Provocateur Dodge The Knives?"
The interview is pretty light, considering that most of the discussion gays are having about Brüno have focused on whether Brüno is cutting satire or a gay minstrel act. Simply giving Cohen a forum to play out gags from the film struck me as a little behind the curve, especially as the cover...

You know, it’s hard to tell exactly what to think of Jean-Claude Van Damme. As big a Street Fighter fan as I know we all are, the man’s personal life and choices are just getting more and more perplexing. First, I don’t know what to think of his career notions following the reveal that he turned down a role in (http://www.darkhorizons.com/news06/061127g.php)Rush Hour 3 (http://www.darkhorizons.com/news06/061127g.php) (http://www.darkhorizons.com/news06/061127g.php)(though to be fair, that was all the media taking things out of context and making a big deal out of nothing). Second, I think that he’s a pretty cool guy, after he cancels a promotional tour of his new film to tend to his recently adopted dog (http://www.dogchannel.com/dog-news/2008/11/04/jean-claude-van-damme-rescued-thai-dogs.aspx). Jean-Claude Van Damme is enjoying a renaissance of sorts. Actually, you could say he's never known the kind of praise he's been getting lately. While his films made a considerable amount of money in the early 1990s, they were all more or less crimes against humanity.
His latest film, Jcvd, shows Van Damme playing a fictionalized version of himself, and at age 48, he's finally getting good reviews. So thinking he's on top of the mountain, Van Damme wanted to share the love. Literally. With a reporter. Who's only 22. And who writes for a little outlet called Newsweek.
The reporter, Sarah Ball, was openly and aggressively hit on by the aging Muscles from Brussels during their interview, and being a trouper, she kept it in the story. After all, how could you write an article about Van Damme and not find time to reference his smooveness.
