New Delhi, April 1 (Ians) New Zealand batting great Ross Taylor believes veteran batter David Warner has it in him to break his indifferent form and claim a spot in Australia’s playing eleven ahead of the World Test Championship Final in June.
Warner will now be captaining Delhi Capitals in the 2023 season of the Indian Premier League (Ipl) and apart from striving to make the team win, he would be aiming to push for selection in the Australia side for the Wtc Final against India at The Oval in England from June 7-11.
Warner averages only 26.04 in Tests in England. He made just 26 runs in three innings in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series in India, before a concussion and hairline fracture of the elbow resulted in him being ruled out for the rest of the tour.
“Davey’s played a lot of cricket, over 100-odd Test matches. You give these guys...

Auckland, Nov 18 (Ians) Former New Zealand cricketer Corey Anderson believes someone like veteran opener Martin Guptill, who was not included in the white-ball side to play the tough series against India, opens the door for him to play in the American Major League Cricket (Mlc), which recently announced its 2023 debut date.

Six teams from major metropolitan areas — representing Dallas, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Washington D.C., Seattle and New York City — will each boast multiple global stars on their rosters alongside the best talent based in the United States, playing the T20 format of the game.

New Delhi, Nov 2 (Ians) Former New Zealand cricketer Ross Taylor is in awe of Suryakumar Yadav’s batting and feels the new No.1 T20I batter can have even more of an impact in the future.
Suryakumar climbed to top spot in the men’s batting rankings on Wednesday after just 37 T20Is. The right-handed batter averaged 40.65 at an incredible strike rate of 177 on his way to the No.1 ranking, but has generally shone brightest when batting at number four for India in 21 of those T20Is.
Yadav scored his only T20I ton when batting at second drop, and soared to the top of the rankings with an average of 46.56 and strike rate of 184.86 in his usual position. But Taylor believes Yadav can have even more of an impact when – not if – he moves higher in India’s batting line-up.
“Four-five is the hardest place to bat in T20s.

Sydney, Oct 29 (Ians) Legendary New Zealand cricketer Ross Taylor is confident the extremely healthy net run rate of Kane Williamson’s side in the T20 World Cup here would have made everyone in the side really confident about going the distance in the tournament.
New Zealand gave a massive push to their net run rate following their 89-run victory against Australia in the Super 12 opening game at Scg on October 22 and the 65-run win against Sri Lanka on Saturday at the same venue.
Despite their match against Afghanistan being abandoned without a ball being bowled in Melbourne, they are still maintaining an Nrr of +3.850 and lead Group 1 with five points.
“There is still a long way to go in the tournament but in terms of where the team want to be, having such a big net run rate and beating the pre-tournament favourites (Australia) at home in such a convincing...

Jaipur, Oct 5 (Ians) India Capitals were crowned the champions of the Legends League Cricket (LLC), which was being held in India for the first time.
In an entertaining final, played at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium here on Wednesday, the Capitals beat Bhilwara Kings by 104 runs to lift the trophy.
The Capitals, captained by Gautam Gambhir, made an excellent recovery after stumbling early to post 211/7 in 20 overs. The Kings crumbled under pressure of the tall target and were all out for just 107 in 18.2 overs.
While Ross Taylor (82 off 41 balls) and Mitchell Johnson (62 off 35 balls) were the architects of the Capitals’ innings, sharing a 126-run stand for the fifth wicket, the Kings did not manage to get any meaningful partnership from their batters.
The Kings’ openers, Morne van Wyk (5) and William Porterfield (12), were out inside the first four overs. A lot depended on the broad shoulders of Yusuf Pathan (6), but he did not last long.

Auckland, Sep 14 (Ians) A year after Kane Williamson’s New Zealand cricket team lifted the World Test Championship (Wtc) trophy, former Black Caps cricketer, Craig Cumming, has made a sweeping statement that the team has lost its identity.
New Zealand’s performance has dipped sharply following the historic Wtc title triumph against India in England last year and their Odi form too has nose-dived of late. The Kiwis were thrashed 3-0 in the three-Test away series by England, and their Odi team recently suffered a similar 3-0 fate against Australia at Cairns.
Former opening batter Craig Cumming, who played 11 Tests and 13 ODIs for the Black Caps, believes the players no longer understand their role within the side, and urged New Zealand Cricket (Nzc) for a quick rectification as the team prepares for 12 gruelling months of limited-overs cricket.
“I think we’ve lost our identity,” Cumming told Senz Mornings on Wednesday.

Auckland, Sep 11 (Ians) Former New Zealand all-rounder Andre Adams wants skipper Kane Williamson to hand over the reins of one format in order to concentrate on his batting.
Williamson, 32, has been enduring a rough patch for quite some time, with the Black Caps captain managing 45 and 17 respectively in the two Odi matches so far against Australia being played in Cairns. The third Odi is underway but Australia have taken an unassailable lead in the series.
Williamson, who guided the Black Caps to the inaugural World Test Championship (Wtc) title defeating India last year, has since endured a harrowing period, while also struggling with an elbow injury.
Adams, who coaches New South Wales, said Williamson should think about dropping one format in an effort to regain his form.
“He hasn’t scored the runs you would expect — he’s been through a difficult time for the last 12 to 18 months,” Adams, 47, a...

Hamilton, Aug 15 (Ians) Former New Zealand cricketer Ross Taylor revealed that he attempted to get England Test skipper Ben Stokes play cricket for his country of birth. In his recently-published autobiography, “Ross Taylor Black & White”, Taylor talked about his idea to get Stokes play for New Zealand while he was playing for English county side Durham in 2010.
“He was 18 or 19 and very much a Kiwi. Over a Guinness, I asked him if he wanted to come and play in New Zealand. He was keen so I sent a message to New Zealand Cricket CEO Justin Vaughan saying this guy Stokes was a really good young cricketer and interested in playing for New Zealand,” wrote Taylor in his book, an extract of which was published by stuff.co.nz on Monday.
But Vaughan’s response was not-so promising, as he stressed on Stokes starting from domestic cricket in New Zealand...

Hamilton, Aug 14 (Ians) Former New Zealand batter Ross Taylor has said in his autobiography that he was “slapped” by one of the owners of the Rajasthan Royals franchise three or four times during the 2011 Ipl season.
In his new autobiography titled ‘Ross Taylor: Black & White’, Taylor revealed the incident took place following a 48-run defeat for Rajasthan Royals against Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) in Mohali.
“The chase was 195, I was lbw for a duck and we didn’t get close. Afterwards, the team, support staff and management were in the bar on the top floor of the hotel. Liz Hurley was there with Warnie (Shane Warne). One of the Royals owners said to me, ‘Ross, we didn’t pay you a million dollars to get a duck’ and slapped me across the face three or four times.

London, May 30 (Ians) New Zealand cricketer Devon Conway, who is awaiting his Test debut, said that skipper Kane Williamson watching him bat during a warm-up game at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton was "pretty intimidating".
The 29-year-old batsman is a part of the 20-member Black Caps squad, which is in England to play a two-Test series against the hosts from June 2 and the World Test Championship final against the Virat Kohli-led India from June 18.
Conway pushed his case for a Test debut on Saturday, notching up an unbeaten 55 for Latham XI against Williamson XI on the opening day of the Black Caps' intra-squad two-day warm-up game at the Ageas Bowl.
Conway and Tom Latham added 106 for the opening wicket before both retired at the lunch interval and were replaced by Tom Blundell and Ross Taylor.

Auckland, May 18 (Ians) New Zealand batsman Ross Taylor said he was confident about overcoming a calf strain and becoming fit ahead of the two-Test series against hosts England and the World Test Championship (Wtc) final against India.
New Zealand begin their campaign at Lord's when they take on England in the first Test from June 2. The Black Caps will play the Virat Kohli-led India in the Wtc final at Southampton from June 18.
The 37-year-old Taylor is in the spotlight as the dependable batsman recently suffered a calf strain during the Black Caps' training at their high-performance centre at Lincoln earlier this month.
However, he allayed those fears on Monday, saying, "Obviously you don't want to have those little niggles and this [calf] niggle came about trying to get the hamstring right," said Taylor.
"It's part and parcel of being an international cricketer," Taylor told cricinfo.com as he along with Tim Southee,...
