[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the Wednesday, October 30 episode of Jeopardy!] The returning Jeopardy! champ lost for the third night in a row on Wednesday (October 30), but this time, he went down swinging with a wild flex on Ken Jennings, sharing he once beat the host at his own game. John Liu, a marketing analyst from Santa Monica, California, entered with a one-day total of $7,801 after what fans ruled was one of the toughest boards in memory and an “agonizing” phrasing Daily Double mistake. He faced Jacqui Kaplan, a high school English teacher from Sandy Hook, Connecticut, and Joseph Carlstein, a graduate student from Chapel Hill, North Carolina. During the interviews, Jennings turned to Liu, saying that they have a history. “This is not your first time on a game show, John, I did not recognize you, but I think we’ve met before.” “Yeah that’s right,” Liu replied. Going full Yogesh Raut circa his Season 39 run (...

It’s three years since Ken Jennings stepped up to become Jeopardy! host (along with the since-departed Mayim Bialik) and faced the seemingly impossible task of succeeding the late, much-loved Alex Trebek. After a period of sharing hosting duties with Bialik, there is no doubt that Jennings has made the job his own. In fact, viewers seem to appreciate the fresh energy he has brought to Jeopardy! It’s a remarkable achievement for someone with little prior TV experience (aside from being the greatest-ever contestant on the very show he now hosts). There is no doubt that Ken has his quirks, like the way he gets holier-than-thou after a triple-stumper, or his sometimes awkward reaction to things that happen or are said during the show. But Ken offers empathy during the interview segments, witty add-ons to clues, and an unwavering ability to preside over the most fast-paced specials like Jeopardy!

Over the years, there have been some problematic Jeopardy! moments. More than one of these involved current host Ken Jennings. It was so bad that some people brought them up when it was time to replace Alex Trebek, and there are rumors it was why the network chose Mike Richards first. It took Jennings an entire season to earn his role.
Here is a look at a few of the moments that Ken had to apologize for.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the Tuesday, October 29 episode of Jeopardy!] Jeopardy! viewers got a new champ on October 29 — but it wasn’t pretty. The player twice forgot the show’s sacred phrasing, leading to a “cringeworthy” Daily Double that nearly cost him the game even after a warning from Ken Jennings. Ian Taylor, a food sales rep originally from Cleveland, Ohio, entered as the returning champ with a one-day total of $19,601, facing John Liu, a marketing analyst from Santa Monica, California (graduating college at 15!), and Aimée Record, a middle school teacher from Long Island, New York. In the Jeopardy! round, Taylor dropped $1,000 on the Daily Double, while Liu responded to a clue by forgetting to add “what is,” only answering “Claw machine?” He was ruled correct with a reminder from Jennings: “Remember your phrasing, John,” With this foreshadowing, Liu finished with $2,600, Taylor with $1,000, and Record led with $3,800. In Double Jeopardy!, Liu had a rip-roaring start and ...

Tim Fehlbaum’s September 5 follows the ABC Sports team that covered the armed attack by the Palestinian militant group Black September during the Munich 1972 Summer Olympics that resulted in the deaths of 11 Israeli Olympians. It’s a crisis freighted with geopolitical significance, but Fehlbaum and co-writer Moritz Binder seem almost desperate to avoid engaging with it. Still, the sympathies of September 5 do seem readily apparent. This is a film about a story with clear victims and clear perpetrators, being sold to a global audience by a group of well-meaning American journalists who happened to be caught in the fray.
September 5 is a journalism procedural that’s only impressive for its taut, docu-realistic depiction of a 17-hour ordeal as it affected the members of the ABC Sports crew on the titular day. Roone Arledge (Peter Sarsgaard) is being relieved for the night by rookie TV producer Geoffrey Mason (John Magaro) when...

Last night’s episode of Jeopardy! used a dated, sexist clue, leading host Ken Jennings to apologize to a female contestant.
During the category Complete the Rhyming Phrase, the three contestants were given the phrase, “Men seldom make passes at …” The answer was: ” … girls who wear glasses.” Returning champion Will Wallace answered, but another contestant, Heather Ryan, was wearing glasses herself.
After acknowledging that Wallace had the correct answer, Jennings admitted that the phrase, coined by Dorothy Parker, didn’t hold up. “A little problematic — sorry, Heather,” Jennings said. Wallace...

If you were to find entire dinette sets, automobiles and living rooms — with people sitting in them — tumbling Earthward from the clouds, you might think “Okay, so End Times really are a thing.” But it could also be the handiwork of “Space Cowboy” subject Joe Jennings, a “freefall cinematographer” who’s made a specialty of devising and filming such surreal stunts. Coming a decade after Marah Strauch’s first feature “Sunshine Superman,” about Base jumping pioneer Carl Boenish (also an aerial cameraman), this new doc provides a thematically and stylistically overlapping companion piece.
Co-directed with Bryce Leavitt, it’s not quite so exhilarating or moving as its predecessor, perhaps because the central personality isn’t larger-than-life this time around. [Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the Monday, October 28 episode of Jeopardy!] Jeopardy! viewers were in for more drama than just a nail-biter game on Monday, October 28. A rhyming clue offended the contestants and fans alike, with Ken Jennings going into apology mode on stage. The contestants were returning champ Will Wallace, a game design director from Austin, Texas, who entered with a four-day total of $79,998, Heather Ryan, a health program director from Binghamton, New York, and Ian Taylor, a food sales rep originally from Cleveland, Ohio. In the Jeopardy! round, Wallace selected the $400 “Complete The Rhyming Phrase” clue. It read: “Men seldom make passes at…” Wallace correctly completed the phrase, responding with a concerned expression: “Girls who wear glasses?” The phrase is a saying coined by poet Dorothy Parker in the 1920s-1930s. Jennings ruled Wallace was correct by admitting it didn’t hold up, and apologized to the female player, Heather Ryan: “A little problematic, sorry Heather,” ...

When Curry Barker moved to Los Angeles a few years ago, he thought getting his short films on the festival circuit would be his path to making it as a director. But soon he discovered just uploading his films directly to YouTube was getting him attention. His 2023 horror short The Chair landed him Hollywood representation and a deal to direct a $1 million movie, Obsession. Then in August, he posted the $800 feature Milk & Serial, which he wrote, directed and starred in. It exploded online, attracting 1 million views.
“It just catapulted the amount of meetings I was taking,” says Barker, who notes he met with practically every studio and major horror producer in town.

Jeopardy! fans regularly debate mispronunciation rulings, but the consensus on social media seemed unanimous after Thursday, October 25’s episode, when a champ was ruled incorrect for a slight mispronunciation of the word “Weimaraner.” The contestant in question was Will Wallace, a game design director from Austin, Texas, who attempted to answer the $1,600 Double Jeopardy! clue in the “Photographers and their Craft” category. A photo of a man and a dog was displayed (see picture below) and the clue read, “William Wegman’s claim to fame–whimsical portraits of this dog breed that also starts with ‘W.’” Wallace buzzed in and responded, “Weimar-ei-ner,” according to the J-Archive, and was otherwise correct. Host Ken Jennings took a brief pause as Wallace looked unsure as to why, not changing his response, before ruling, “Mmm… no, won’t take that.” After Wallace’s fellow contestants didn’t buzz in, Jennings explained: “It’s actually a ‘Weimaraner.

Jeopardy! producer Sarah Whitcomb Foss has addressed the havoc-wreaking handwriting ruling from last week, and why the quiz show accepted the questionably written response. For those who missed it, Rishabh Wuppalapati, an undergraduate student at the University of Pennsylvania, was going for his second win on Wednesday, October 16’s episode. He entered a neck-and-neck Final Jeopardy round with $10,400 while Rachel Cassidy, an associate professor from Rhode Island, was right behind with $10,100. Jay Eversman, an environmental lawyer from Missouri, trailed with $4,800. The “College Towns” clue was: “2 schools in the Southeastern Conference are located in cities with this same name but in different “states.” The correct answer was “Columbia.” Both Cassidy and Wuppalapati (who changed his answer last second) were ruled correct. As the response was displayed, a visibly nervous Wuppalapati stated what he wrote to Ken Jennings: “Columbia,” he told the host. “I can read every letter,” Jennings subsequently ruled, and he won by $300 with $20,201. However,...

Fans of Jeopardy! have recently taken issue with a recent ruling made by host Ken Jennings and judges on the series. During the Final Jeopardy, many felt a contestant’s writing was too illegible to be accepted. Some fans hope the incident could inspire some upcoming changes to the show.

Even in the most carefully constructed documentaries, you can often tell when an important person is going to die. That sense of inevitable tragedy is telegraphed early in “Space Cowboy,” a stunning look at the life of skydiving legend and “freefall cinematographer” Joe Jennings, but here it builds to lasting and even life-affirming effect.
Jumping from an airplane is an open invitation for catastrophe, and the absence of Jennings’ longtime skysurfing partner Rob Harris from the film’s interviews turns out to mean exactly what you’d fear. And yet, co-directors Marah Strauch and Bryce Leavitt continuously defy expectations with a complex and thoughtful examination of one man’s soul-shattering grief. That loss — a capstone in a string of setbacks for Jennings — is told through the former X Games champion’s unique point of view and his singular commitment to a death-defying passion.

Maggie Smith was a constant in the life of producer Robert Fox for half a century. She could “make grown men cry,” says Fox, because “if you weren’t 100 percent on top of your game, you were dead in the water, and she was right.”
Fox produced Dame Maggie in some of her greatest stage hits from Peter Shaffer’s Lettice and Lovage to David Hare’s The Breath of Life, in which she and her best friend, Judi Dench, shared top billing at London’s Theatre Royal Haymarket.
Dame Judi got the No. 1 dressing room. “But Maggie wasn’t fussed because she joked that Judi, she’d say, “had all those people in from Surrey to see her, so she needs the space.’ She wasn’t at all unhappy about it. She’d watch all of Judi’s guests troop in to see her. She’d say: ‘Look, there they go.

When it comes to clues on Jeopardy!, it’s host Ken Jennings‘ job to present them with as much accuracy and clarity as possible so that players may buzz in with the corresponding questions, but as with competitors, not every clue can be delivered perfectly, such is the case in a newly shared blooper. The official Jeopardy! account on X (formerly known as Twitter) shared an 18-second video featuring a funny flub from Jennings as he was reading a clue from the category “Completes the Song Titles” for $200. In an inset image, fans are shown the proper presentation of the clue, with blanked-out sections where the corresponding word would go. Even the Goat makes mistakes! We always have spare clues, so we just made a simple swap for broadcast! It’s like it never even happened … #Jeopardy! #bloopers pic.twitter.com/t1SJ1449RR — Jeopardy! A recent Jeopardy! contestant, Hilary Glazer, might not have won the game at the end of the episode. However, she ended up winning hearts with a little anecdote she shared on the show. In fact, Glazer has even thanked the fans for their own kind words.
A Work Of Art Where It’s Least Expected
A long-standing Jeopardy! tradition is to have the host briefly take an aside and ask each contestant to share a quick story.
On the recent September 13th episode, Glazer answered host Ken Jennings’ question about the most beautiful piece of art she ever saw.
According to TV Insider, Glazer shared that, “Well, Ken, I got to tell you, it took place in a restroom, and I was not the artist.” As she continued, “But one day at work, I went into the ladies’ room — there were three stalls, I happened to go into this one...

On the set of CNN’s “NewsNight,” guests may not be certain whether they should shake hands or ball them up into fists.
When the cameras are off on the set of anchor Abby Phillip’s program, the atmosphere matches that of a nice dinner party.
Before the 10 p.m. show even got on the air one night last week, producers offer panelist Ana Navarro a pillow to sit on so the diminutive commentator seems like she’s matched — at least optics-wise — with her neighboring guests Olivia Nuzzi and Bryan Lanza. And in the middle of one commercial break, conservative analyst Scott Jennings is heard to remark that he’s found a new friend — the progressive figure Nina Turner — in a declaration that surprises the producers who work on the program.

This is the first season that Ken Jennings is listed as the sole Jeopardy! host. Even though she has been gone for over a year, the internal listings still had Mayim Bialik listed alongside Jennings. However, there seem to be some producers who feel the show would be better with a different host.
One insider even said that the production team is going to carefully watch Pop Culture Jeopardy! to see if Colin Jost might be a better host than Ken Jennings. Here is what you need to know.
Colin Jost Poses Threat To Ken Jennings On Jeopardy!
Pop Culture Jeopardy! is coming to Prime Video. The new series will have teams of three people answering questions that are all based on pop culture topics. According to Ken Jennings, the questions will be as hard as the ones on the regular show but based on movies, music, TV, and trends.

Jeopardy!‘s 41st season is underway and with it comes the introduction of even more players in its first week back on air, among which is Mark Palmere who joined returning champ Will Weiss and Bethany Korp for the September 12th game. While host Ken Jennings was quick to notice Mark’s defining mustache, asking the player about the facial feature during the episode’s anecdotal segment, it was his approach to the buzzer that really caught viewers’ attention. During the first round break, Mark offered the origin story behind his mustache, sighting specific inspirations. “So, I originally grew it for Halloween to be Freddie Mercury, and basically I’ve only grown it back for other mustached costumes like Ted Lasso most recently,” the energy analyst from Sacramento, California told Jennings and the audience. There’s a new Jeopardy! champ in Season 41, but he nearly played in Season 20! Will Weiss revealed during his post-round interview in the Tuesday, September 10 episode that he originally qualified to compete in the same season of Jeopardy! during which now host Ken Jennings made his historic run. Jennings won 74 consecutive games from June to November 2004, winning over $2 million in the process. Jennings still holds the record for the most consecutive wins in a regular season of game play. Weiss, a technical program manager from Islip, New York, secured his first-ever Jeopardy win 20 years after he first became eligible to compete, but he never got the call to play back in 2004. “Were you waiting for that call, or were you hoping to not get that call?” Jennings asked. It’s a fair question. Everyone plays to win this beloved trivia game, and the odds of winning against Jennings are historically slim.

In the Toronto Film Festival documentary “Space Cowboy,” the triumphs and tragedies of skydiving cinematographer Joe Jennings are examined. Jennings’ desire to film an open-top automobile falling from the sky with four passengers sitting in the car is the narrative device used to structure the story.
Jennings’ successful marriage and the decades he spent capturing seminal aerial moments with his camera for extreme sports competitions, Super Bowl commercials, and Hollywood films, including “Charlie’s Angels” and “XXX” are all part of the 98-minute docu directed by Marah Strauch (“Sunshine Superman”) and Bryce Leavitt.
But the doc doesn’t shy away from the darker periods of Jennings’ life, which includes a difficult childhood, battles with depression and tragically losing his friend and fellow skydiver aficionado Rob Harris in the mid-nineties.
Variety spoke to Jennings, Strauch and Leavitt about “Space Cowboy,” which premieres at TIFF on Friday.

In Jordan Peele’s magnificent 2022 film “Nope,” there is a character, a cinematographer, who will do anything and everything to get that perfect shot, including risking his own life. He does so because this is the thing that drives him and fills him with purpose, providing clarity in the chaos of the world. Jeopardy! isn’t known for being the most hilarious show on TV. After all, three nerdy contestants showing off their trivia knowledge in the form of questions isn’t exactly a formula for comedy gold. Unless, of course, one of the contestants is Sir Sean Connery.
That being said, the late Alex Trebek did manage to squeeze in a few memorable laughs during his legendary run as host, such as the time he absolutely bodied a “nerd-core hip-hop” fan for absolutely no reason.
Now the current host of Jeopardy!, Ken Jennings, is reportedly working on beefing up his joke-telling skills, and has hired a “comedy coach” seemingly to counter criticisms that he comes across as “awkward and unfunny” on the air. “How to be genuinely funny is one of the things that hinders (Jennings),” an anonymous source told Closer Weekly. “People on the show know it, Ken knows it deep down.

At a time when world events are instantaneously reported on social media and news sites, it’s an enlightening, altogether gripping experience to watch a film like September 5, which depicts how a dedicated crew at ABC Sports managed to broadcast the 1972 Munich Olympics terrorist attacks live to an entire nation.
Not only does German director Tim Fehlbaum’s accomplished third feature detail all the logistical hurdles the team needed to scale so they could capture the crisis as it happened, relying on massive TV cameras, smuggled 16mm film stock, a slew of walkie talkies and plenty of ingenuity. Even more importantly, the movie tackles the tough questions faced by several hardworking newsmen — and one vital female translator — as they dealt with a situation in which many human lives hung in the balance.
