At the Producers Guild of America (PGA) awards on Saturday night, where she accepted the Stanley Kramer Award, Charlize Theron said that watching the video response from former Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly, to the Oscar-nominated “Bombshell,” was “really emotional.”
Theron, who plays Kelly in the film, was reacting to a 30-minute taped discussion that Kelly posted to her YouTube Channel on January 9, in which she was joined by former Fox co-workers Juliet Huddy, Rudi Bakhtiar and Julie Zann, and husband, Douglas Brunt, after a private screening of “Bombshell,” and then talking about the film afterward.
“When they talked about how the film really got the essence of what it felt like to work there and what they experienced there, the fact that we got that right, that just felt really validating,” Theron said. “Because that’s ultimately as filmmakers what you’re trying to get. You know, it’s not a documentary,...

Charlize Theron says it was “really emotional” to watch Megyn Kelly’s half-hour response video to “Bombshell,” the Oscar-nominated feature film that depicts the sexual harassment Kelly (as played by Theron) and several other women experienced from Fox News founder Roger Ailes.
The video, which Kelly posted to her YouTube Channel on Jan. 9, shows Kelly, former Fox co-workers Juliet Huddy, Rudi Bakhtiar and Julie Zann, and Kelly’s husband, Douglas Brunt, watching a private screening of “Bombshell,” then sitting down for a taped discussion about the film.
While attending the Producers Guild of America awards on Saturday night to accept the Stanley Kramer Award, Theron and fellow “Bombshell” producers Charles Randolph (who also wrote the screenplay) and Margaret Riley all told Variety that they were impressed with and gratified by the reaction everyone in Kelly’s video had to the film and how it portrayed their time at Fox News.

Charlize Theron isn’t just “grateful” to the Academy for recognizing the work she did on “Bombshell.” Theron also said she was incredibly moved to get a positive review from the very woman she portrayed for her Oscar-nominated performance: Megyn Kelly.
“We were all incredibly moved,” Theron told TheWrap following her Oscar nomination. “It was definitely something, we were all, all of us, the producers, the filmmakers, the entire crew, we worked incredibly hard to be as accurate as we possibly could, and to see that video it was incredibly emotional for all of us. And then it felt very validating.”
Kelly revealed in a December Instagram post that she had finally seen “Bombshell” and called it an “incredibly emotional experience.” However, on her YouTube channel Friday, it became clear how deeply she was affected by the film.

With several Oscar nominations in the bag on Monday, Bombshell has its place in Academy history—something that lead actress and co-producer Charlize Theron told Deadline “really means something,” especially given that the issues the film covers are “part of our cultural conversation.”
Bombshell‘s timely exposé of Roger Ailes’ sexual misconduct at Fox News has brought an acting nomination not only for Theron, who is also a co-producer, in the role of former Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly, but also for Margot Robbie in the Supporting category and for Kazu Hiro, Anne Morgan and Vivian Baker for makeup and hairstyling.
Interestingly, Kelly herself posted a 30-minute video to Instagram just a few days ago, detailing her reaction to the film and to Theron’s portrayal of her. Tearing up in the clip, Kelly reflected, “I do wish I had done more, even though I was powerless… what if I...

Megyn Kelly, Juliet Huddy, Rudi Bakhtiar and Julie Zann – the former Fox News journalists whose sexual harassment claims against Roger Ailes and other men at the company form the basis of the movie Bombshell – have released a little bombshell of their own: A 30-minute video in which they, along with Kelly’s husband Douglas Brunt, watch a screening of the film and then offer their reactions, often emotionally, during a panel discussion.
Megyn Kelly Presents: A Response to “Bombshell” was posted in full on Kelly’s YouTube channel today. During their discussion, the women agree that the film got lots right, and some fairly big things wrong.
Among the “liberties” taken by screenwriter Charles Randolph and director Jay Roach, said Kelly, was the implication that she sought approval from the Murdochs before asking the now-famous 2015 debate question about then-candidate Donald Trump...

Megyn Kelly broke her silence on “Bombshell,” the latest media project to examine the culture of Fox News Channel under the aegis of its founding executive, Roger AIles.
On Friday, Kelly posted a video in which she and other former Fox News staffers screened the film, which stars Charlize Theron, Nicole Kidman, and Margot Robbie, and examines the events that transpired leading up to Ailes’ ouster in 2016 after former Fox News anchor Gretchen Carlson levied allegations of harassment against him. Ailes, who died in 2017, denied the claims. Kelly also held a roundtable discussion to share reactions with former Fox co-workers Juliet Huddy, Rudi Bakhtiar and Julie Zann. Kelly’s husband, Douglas Brunt, also took part in the proceedings.
Here are the five biggest takeaways:
There were a few events in the film that didn’t happen.
Kelly took a moment to discuss some of the liberties the film took with her story.

In a teaser for a longer video about her experience watching the Fox News-based movie “Bombshell”, Megyn Kelly spoke about the accusations that the network’s former boss would have female talent “twirl” in his office. “God help me,” Kelly said. “I did it.”
Kelly was one of dozens of women who came forward with accusations of sexual misconduct against Ailes, which ultimately led to his 2016 ouster from the channel he founded. He died the next year. Kelly is portrayed by lead actress Charlize Theron. Kelly watched “Bombshell” with a few other women who “lived” the events shown in the film: Juliet Huddy, Rudi Bakhtiar and Julie Zann.

For Variety‘s Writers on Writers, Malcolm Gladwell pens a tribute to “Bombshell” (written by Charles Randolph). For more, click here.
There is a scene at the beginning of “Bombshell,” where the Fox correspondent Rudi Bakhtiar is being propositioned by one of her bosses. We see him hinting and suggesting and insinuating and then her thoughts, in voiceover, as she coaches herself through the impossibility of her predicament: Just look confused. Make it your fault. That scene could have been written as outrage or slapstick. Bakhtiar could have come back with a brilliant riposte. But when you skip to the speech, you skip the complexity — and one of the things I love about Charles Randolph’s screenwriting is that he never skips the complexity. “The Big Short,” his last effort, was a movie about collateralized credit default swaps. And not in some metaphorical sense. In a Randolph movie, details and nuance slowly overwhelm our preconceptions.

The working title for “Bombshell” was “Fair and Balanced,” and it still feels as though that would be the better option. Jay Roach’s compelling but uneven takedown of former Fox News and Fox Television Stations czar Roger Ailes is less a fiery expression of political outrage than a work of entertainment aiming to be all things to all people.
The movie is introduced as “a dramatization inspired by actual events,” a blend of freely imagined fiction and carefully recreated reality.
The first hint that there will be liberties comes when erstwhile Fox News host Megyn Kelly opens the film as our fourth-wall-breaking tour guide. Strutting through Fox headquarters in a patriotic stretch dress, she shows us the offices where the Murdoch family holds court. In reports Saturday in the New York Times and New York magazine, the Iranian American journalist went on record to claim that around 2007 she was sidelined at the network after refusing the sexual advances of the incoming Washington, D.C., bureau chief, Brian Wilson. After relating her experiences with the network’s human resources VP and general counsel, she told New York magazine, network boss Roger Ailes.
