A Breed Apart Review: When Killer Dogs and Bad Tech Collide
Image
Every so often, a film’s premise lands on your desk that feels like a perfectly engineered B-movie setup, the kind that could either become a cult favorite or a cautionary tale. “A Breed Apart” barks loudly with that kind of energy right from the start. The core idea is deliciously simple: a collection of social media mavens, each chasing viral fame, are lured to a remote island.

Their host, a flamboyant fellow influencer, promises a high-stakes contest with the island itself as the grand prize. The catch? The island is teeming with some very un-photogenic, genetically agitated dogs. This isn’t your typical influencer retreat; it’s a creature feature with horror-comedy ambitions, a spiritual successor perhaps, in its wild-canine-chaos theme, to the 2006 film “The Breed,” though it charts its own distinct, and decidedly more over-the-top, territory.

You can almost feel the gleeful, schlocky intent, promising a particular brand...

David Zaslav Might Be Killing the Cartoon Network Next
Image
When I was a young, stupid child, I assumed that the person who owned Cartoon Network must be awesome. A Willy Wonka figure, preferably minus the child murder, rolling around the office on a skateboard giggling at new clips of Johnny Bravo.

Now, I’m an old, sad, creaky man, and I know that almost all of the media I love exists despite the will of executives. They’re not trying to create good content that provides us a moment of joy and respite in this world. They’re the miserly warden of the jail all my favorite characters are trapped in, trying to calculate the absolute minimum daily rations that the Powerpuff Girls can live on.

David Zaslav, a man who would be best suited as the CEO of a gardening supply company that specializes in rakes you can step on, seems to have the Cartoon Network in his sights next.

Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton in Bridgerton (2020)
Netflix is usually in the headlines for cancelling a bunch of shows, but today, the streaming giant has much better news—it’s dishing out renewals instead. During Netflix’s upfronts presentation, it was announced that Bridgerton has been renewed for seasons 5 and 6; that’s right, gentle reader, it’s a double renewal. It was also revealed that the upcoming fourth season will debut in 2026.

The fourth season of Bridgerton will center on Benedict (Luke Thompson), the bohemian second son of the Bridgerton brood. Unwilling to settle down like his brothers, his perspective changes when he encounters a captivating Lady in Silver (Yerin Ha) at his mother’s masquerade ball.

The Four Seasons, Tina Fey’s adaptation of Alan Alda’s 1981 film of the same name, is also returning for a second season. The first season stars Tina Fey, Steve Carell, Will Forte, Kerri Kenney-Silver, Colman Domingo, and Marco Calvani...

My Absolute Favorite ‘Top Chef’ Celebrity Guest Judges, Ranked
Image
Top Chef has been feeding us cravings, chaos, and kitchen showdowns for years, but honestly, nothing spices things up quite like a surprise from a celebrity guest judge. And no, I’m not referring to the food critics with ten forks in their coat pocket, I’m talking about the athletes, actors, random famous faces, and pop stars that show up to taste-test the fancy palettes of cuisine they probably can’t even pronounce.

Of course, some of them are food nerds who know their beurre blanc from their bearnaise, but others? Let’s just say they vibe, hoping there’s dessert (sounds like me). Then a few of them are way too serious, like they’re judging the Olympics too. And the remaining ones are just happy to be there and taste something that isn’t from craft services.

But one thing’s for sure, they all bring fun...

Timothée Chalamet Ditches Kylie Jenner At Coachella To Avoid Awkward Run-In With Ex Travis Scott: Is Their Romance in Trouble?
Image
Timothée Chalamet Skips Coachella With Kylie(Photo Credit –Facebook/Instagram)

Timothee Chalamet’s Coachella no-show beside Kylie Jenner didn’t go unnoticed and it has kicked off a fresh round of whispers about trouble in their glam-packed romance. While Jenner strolled backstage with her daughter Stormi, the Oscar-nominated actor kept a noticeable distance, steering clear of the area where her ex, Travis Scott, had just lit up the stage. The reason isn’t just awkward ex vibes for Chalamet, it’s personal.

Tension Still Brewing Between Timothee Chalamet and Travis Scott

There has been a long-running tension brewing between the two men that’s been simmering since Scott dropped a pointed line in his 2023 track Meltdown, a lyrical jab that played off Chalamet’s role in Wonka.

According to RadarOnline, Scott rapped, “Chocolate AP and chocolate the Vs, got the Willy Wonka factory / Burn a athlete like it’s calories,...

What Is Johnny Depp’s New Movie ‘Day Drinker’ All About?
Image
Well! It’s happy news for all Johnny Depp fans as the Hollywood icon is all set to make his big screen comeback with his brand-new movie titled Day Drinker. The 61-year-old actor can easily be one of the most prominent figures in the acting business, with movies that have earned billions at the box office.

However, just like any other celebrity, he was also not immune to controversies, the most significant of which was his highly publicized legal battle with his ex-wife, Amber Heard. While this trial got its own place on Netflix, the actor was pretty much absent from the acting scene.

Now, after years of his personal life dominating the headlines, fans are absolutely thrilled to see him step back into the spotlight for what promises to be a brilliant cinematic experience.

Not just Depp, but this movie also features some of the most well-known faces from the industry,...

5 Worst Timothée Chalamet Movies, According To Rotten Tomatoes
Image
Timothée Chalamet has become a very big deal over the last decade or so. With two Academy Award nominations and an ever-expanding list of excellent movies under his belt, the actor has flaunted his talent in a vast array of roles that range from playing Bob Dylan in "A Complete Unknown" (2024) to starring as Paul Atreides in Denis Villeneuve's "Dune" movies and following Gene Wilder and Johnny Depp in portraying eccentric chocolatier Willy Wonka in "Wonka" (2023). That's a lot, especially from a young actor who seems destined to turn in great roles for many decades to come.

Any one of Chalamet's best movies is a great way for a movie fan to spend a couple of hours glued to their seat. However, few prolific actors can maintain a perfect win record throughout their career, and even one as wildly successful as Chalamet has a few less than beloved films in his CV.

Doctor Who Season 2 Review — Can the Doctor Replace a Brilliant Companion with Another? Apparently, Yes!
Image
Few shows can withstand massive changes in their casts from season to season, yet Doctor Who has always been an exception to the rule. Since its earliest seasons on BBC, the show has featured remarkable turnover, but there was some hope a move to Disney would help us get a multi-season companion for the first time in years. However, with Ncuti Gatwa still in the lead role, there’s nothing to fear. His unbelievably fun performances continue to showcase his talent, and new companion Varada Sethu proves a perfect match for his style. The two reach the chemistry that Gatwa and Millie Gibbons reached last season, and Doctor Who continues to shine through the first two episodes.

Hershey Chocolate Biopic in the Works With Alexandra Daddario
Image
In what sounds like a joke on Apple TV's The Studio, Hershey's Chocolate is getting a movie—or at least its founders are. In a world filled with titles like The Lego Movie, Barbie, and A Minecraft Movie, it certainly does seem like anything can be a feature-length film. Even still, the idea of a movie based around a chocolate company's founding seemed odd, even though it shouldn't be, given that there are three movies based on the character Willy Wonka. Yet, Hershey is coming to a theater soon, not just in the concessions one buys before the movie.

Variety reports that Mean Girls and Freaky Friday director Mark Waters has signed on to direct Hershey, starring Alexandra Daddario and Finn Wittrock. The movie will follow the life of Milton Hershey (Wittrock) and his wife Kitty (Daddario) as they create the iconic chocolate brand and the various philanthropic endeavors by the couple,...

When Jim Carrey Kept Losing Major Roles To Johnny Depp
Image
Did Jim Carrey lose a lot of roles to Johnny Depp?(Photo Credit –Facebook/Instagram)

It started way back in 1990. Jim Carrey was still carving out a name in comedy clubs and sketch shows. But even then, he was already circling big-screen dreams. According to Vulture, he was in the running to play Edward in Edward Scissorhands. So were Tom Cruise and Robert Downey Jr. But Tim Burton had other plans. He handed the blades to Johnny Depp, and launched a cinematic bromance that would span decades.

Depp crushed it. The film became a cult classic. And Burton? He stuck with his new favorite muse. Over the next two decades, Depp starred in Ed Wood, Sleepy Hollow, Sweeney Todd, Corpse Bride, and more Burton fever dreams. Meanwhile, Carrey watched from the sidelines… until 1994 hit like a supercharged comedy cannon.

That year, Carrey went from “that guy on In Living Color...

Batman v Superman Already Had the Perfect Lex Luthor Actor & This Neo-Western Proved He Was Miscast

Quick LinksWho Did Scoot McNairy Play In the Dceu? What Was East of Wall About?

The following contains spoilers for East of Wall, which was screened at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival.

When it comes to Lex Luthor, DC Comics fans will always have their preferences. Many adored the quirky portrayal by the late Gene Hackman. Others gravitated towards the more serious ones, like Michael Rosenbaum from Smallville and Michael Cudlitz from Superman & Lois.

The most polarizing one, however, was Jesse Eisenberg's Lex from Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice. Some viewers felt he was too eccentric, coming off a bit like Willy Wonka. Coincidentally, that Zack Snyder Dceu film had another actor who would have been a perfect Lex. A Neo-Western from the 2025 Sundance Film Festival proves that Scoot McNair was gravely miscast in the minor role he was given.

Netflix Confirms Willy Wonka Competition Series ‘The Golden Ticket’
Image
Netflix has moved closer to opening the doors to the chocolate factory after confirming it has greenlit The Golden Ticket, a reality competition series inspired by Willy Wonka.

This comes nine months after Deadline revealed that Eureka Productions, the Fremantle-owned company behind series including The Mole and Fox’s The Floor, won a bake-off for the rights to produce the series.

The Golden Ticket has now begun casting for contestants. It comes after Netflix acquired the rights to the Roald Dahl Company in 2021 and marks the first Charlie and the Chocolate Factory-inspired series.

Per the logline, lucky contestants will have the chance to enter Wonka’s Chocolate Factory, but there’s a catch—only players who find a coveted golden ticket will gain entry to the factory. But a golden ticket doesn’t guarantee a sweet ride once the gates open; only those who can adapt, strategize, and...

Netflix Orders Competition Series Inspired By ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’
Image
Netflix has ordered a new reality competition series inspired by Roald Dahl’s classic Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

The series, The Golden Ticket, will combine elements of strategy, adventure and social dynamics, as contestants seek to gain entry to a “retro-futuristic” chocolate factory (via a golden ticket, of course) and then try to make it through all the challenges they will encounter.

Eureka Productions (The Mole, Dating Around, TwentySomethings Austin) is producing the series for Netflix.

The show will be the first project inspired by the world of Willy Wonka since Netflix acquired the Dahl intellectual property in 2021. Dahl’s other books include Matilda, The Fantastic Mr. Fox, James and the Giant Peach, and The Bfg, among many others. Until now, however, the streamer had not adapted arguably his most famous work for any film or TV projects (Warner Bros. released a Wonka film in 2023 that pre-dated the Netflix...

Gwyneth Paltrow on Filming Sex Scenes With Timothée Chalamet in New Film
Image
Gwyneth Paltrow has opened up about the decision not to use an intimacy coordinator while filming sex scenes with Timothée Chalamet in A24's Marty Supreme, a ping-pong movie that is directed by Josh Safdie. The Oscar-winning actress told Vanity Fair that there is "a lot of sex" in the seemingly steamy sports movie, but having acted out intimate scenes many times during her long and successful career in the industry, she didn't feel the need for extra assistance when it came to getting physical with her co-star. She admitted that she would feel "stifled" by the input.

"We said, 'I think we're good. You can step a little bit back. I don't know how it is for kids who are starting out, but… if someone is like, 'Okay, and then he's going to put his hand here.' I would feel, as an artist, very stifled by that."

Willy Wonka: The Controversial Truth Behind the Oompa Loompas
Image
In the original Charlie and the Chocolate Factory text, the eccentric Willy Wonka discovered Oompa Loompas and invited them to live and work at his wondrous chocolate factory. The three film adaptations of Roald Dahl's children's novel, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, introduced the Oompa Loompas to viewers differently. In 1971, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory revealed them to be smaller than average humanoid creatures with orange skin and cartoonish features. Tim Burton's 2005 adaptation of the story depicted them as identical workers — all played by actor Deep Roy — dressed in flashy clothes. The 2023 prequel Wonka follows the visual style of the 1971 film, with a single orange Oompa Loompa played by Hugh Grant. All three versions depict them as happy in their work, and the factory as a kind of fairytale kingdom where they can live in safety.

However, that dreamy portrayal was far from the truth. Even in...

Why Roald Dahl Absolutely Hated Gene Wilder's Willy Wonka
Image
As most schoolchildren know, the novels of Roald Dahl are whimsical, delightful, and full of spite. Dahl's stories were rarely sentimental screeds about the magic of childhood, angling instead to describe how horrible kids have it. In most of Dahl's novels, adults are depicted as horrid and abusive, screaming at children and often physically harming them, all while the children live in poverty and destitution. Kids are only free once they stand up to the evil adults in their lives and find a way out of their miserable, Dickensian surroundings.

The films based on the works of Roald Dahl rarely capture the author's impeccable sense of childhood misery. The films, often made by American studios, tend to skew more traditionally "Hollywood," giving them happier endings, more action-packed scenes, and fewer moments of gentle, unusual whimsy. Naturally, Dahl disliked the films based on his books, mostly stemming from his overwhelming...

Gene Wilder Had One Condition To Play Willy Wonka
Image
While Johnny Depp and Timothée Chalamet tried with varying degrees of success, neither actor was able to step out from the shadow of the late, great Gene Wilder when playing Willy Wonka. That's not a knock on their performances, but rather a testament to how iconic Wilder's role in Mel Stuart's "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" remains to this day. It's also a role that the actor took very seriously, though he wouldn't have accepted the gig if one of his demands wasn't met.

Wilder put a lot of thought into playing Wonka, providing input on everything from his character's costume to elevating scenes. Regarding the latter, he told the 92nd Street Y, New York that he agreed to play Wonka on the condition that the chocolate factory owner performed some impressive gymnastics during his introductory scene, as opposed to the original plan, which portrayed him as slow and frail.

Mike Myers Crashes ‘SNL’ as Elon Musk as Cold Open Takes on Trump-Zelenskyy Meeting: ‘Donald, What Are You Doing in My Office?’
Image
As the fallout from Donald Trump’s clash with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy continues to stun the world, “Saturday Night Live” gave its own spin on the global disaster. “SNL” opened this weekend’s show — its first since the “SNL50” special — by featuring Trump (played as usual by James Austin Johnson) and vice president Jd Vance (Bowen Yang) chastising Zelenskyy (Mikey Day).

But then came unelected Doge master Elon Musk, as played by “SNL” alum Mike Myers. This repped Myers’ first appearance on a regular “SNL” episode since December 2015, although he appeared on the recent “SNL50” special in a reprise of his “Coffee Talk” Linda Richman character. He also popped in for the goodbyes at the end of the show to make a statement with his t-shirt.

The sketch opened with a tongue-in-cheek voice over: “Yesterday, President Trump hosted Ukrainian president Zelenskyy at the White House, and it went really,...

Tubi will stream Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory for free starting Mar. 1. The 1971 movie adaptation of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is now a beloved classic, all thanks to Gene Wilder's version of the main antagonist. John Oliver Likens Elon Musk’s Doge To Viral ‘Wonka’ Experience: “Stark Disconnect Between Marketing And Reality”
Image
On Last Week Tonight, John Oliver drew parallels between Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency to the ill-fated and shoddy Willy Wonka immersive experience in the U.K., which quickly became a viral sensation as the largest event ripoff/mishap since the Fyre Festival.

Oliver began the episode by criticizing the newly formed contracted organization as having “no idea what they’re doing,” pointing to an example where head Elon Musk mistakenly stated that its haphazard slashing of federal spending has resulted in $55 billion in total estimated savings.

Following the erroneous announcement, reporters uncovered a flurry of caveats and calculations that led to the oversight and inflated the number. As NPR estimated, the savings actually amounted closer to $2 billion, which Oliver quipped was “a lot of numbers away” from the originally touted figure.

“In fact, there hasn’t been such a stark disconnect between marketing and reality since it...

Timothée Chalamet Strips Down to Tank Top in Freezing Berlin Cold — and Brings Kylie Jenner Along — in Latest Stop of the Year’s Most Joyful Oscar Campaign
Image
It is a very cold February night in Berlin. As the snow falls and attendees of the Berlin Film Festival bundle up, Timothée Chalamet, walking the red carpet for a special screening of “A Complete Unknown,” looks utterly unbothered. Chalamet is taking yet another big fashion swing by wearing a cotton candy pink hoodie designed by Chrome Hearts along with pink sweatpants and pink shoes — as if he’s channeling a Care Bear, or the rose-colored Pac-Man ghost. All his fans scream and tremble as he takes selfies with him.

And then, when he’s signed practically every autograph, Chalamet, 29, reminds the crowd that he’s an A-list movie star. He strips off the hoodie and stands in the freezing cold in a matching pink tank top. Yes, this is a leading-man-from-the-’90s move, and the crowd goes even wilder. The entire scene is electric, and it caps off one...

Interactive 'Insidious' Theatrical Experience Disappoints Fans With Underwhelming Reviews
Image
Remember back in February 2024 when that unlicensed Willy Wonka "experience" in Glasgow brought Scottish children to tears and the internet to tears of laughter? Well, it seems horror fans have been treated to a similar entertainment rug pull with Insidious: The Further You Fear. The show, which was billed as a terrifying, a live immersive horror experience based on the Insidious film franchise, has been canceled after just a few performances.

The show debuted on January 18th in Lafayette, Arkansas and immediately began to draw the ire of audiences that felt duped by the theatrical bait and switch. According to the show's website (which is still active), Fyf is "a ground-breaking, spine-chilling live show" and "is not for those who are easily rattled. It’s created and designed to keep you on the edge of your seat. You, the audience, will play an integral character in the chilling story as...

10 Actors Who Disappeared After 1 Hit Movie
Image
Certain actors receive their breakout roles quite early in their film careers and go on to become household names. For example, stars like Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Leonardo DiCaprio made an impact on the industry quite quickly and have gone on to become well-respected actors. As such, it seems that in order to make it in the movie business, actors must keep on pushing.

However, some actors make one hit movie and step away from the spotlight for good. While this typically happens with child stars, a lot of adult actors have moved onto greener pastures after appearing in a film. As such, some of the industry's biggest stars have now built unexpected lives for themselves.

Was Timothée Chalamet Handpicked To Play ‘Wonka’ Without An Audition?
Image
was Timothée Chalamet literally just chosen to play Wonka? ( Photo Credit – Instagram )

Well, it turns out Lil Timmy Tim (as his fans lovingly call him) had already won over director Paul King long before the cameras rolled. It all goes back to Chalamet’s viral high school rap videos, which showed off his unexpected triple-threat talent. Forget the traditional audition process; for King, casting Chalamet was a no-brainer.

“I knew from stanning for Timmy Chalamet that he could sing and dance really well,” King shared in an interview with Rolling Stone. Chalamet’s high school musical performances, which were captured on YouTube and amassed hundreds of thousands of views, proved to King that the actor could pull off a musical role with ease. King didn’t even think twice: “It was a straight offer because he’s great and he was the only person in my mind who could do it.

Timothée Chalamet Covers Three ‘Personal Favorite’ Bob Dylan Deep Tracks in ‘SNL’ Musical Appearance
Image
The Bob Dylan song choices Timothée Chalamet picked for his “Saturday Night Live” musical appearance were… well, completely unknown to most of the viewing audience. The actor’s dip into more obscure choices delighted many Dylanologists who tuned in, even as his picks defied expectations that he would recreate songs he performed as Dylan in “A Complete Unknown,” which turned out to be the furthest thing from his mind.

In his opening monolog as host, Chalamet signaled that viewers would be surprised by the choices during his musical segment. “You might not know the Bob Dylan songs I’m performing, but they’re my personal favorites,” he told the audience. “I’m so grateful ‘Saturday Night Live’ is still doing weird stuff like this 50 years in. They’re either really nice for letting me do this or incredibly mean and this is all a big prank.”

In an unbilled cameo,...

Timothée Chalamet Loses Oscar to Kenan Thompson in ‘SNL’ Monologue
Image
Timothée Chalamet just can’t catch a break during awards season.

The “Dune” and “A Complete Unknown” star devoted part of his “Saturday Night Live” monologue to lamenting the fact that he seems to keep losing at major awards shows.

“It’s an enormous honor going to these award shows. It’s such a great experience,” Chalamet said. “But I just keep losing. And each time, it gets harder to pretend it doesn’t sting.” A montage of Chalamet’s disappointed face at past Golden Globes and Academy Awards ceremonies followed.

Chalamet’s appearance on the show comes comes less than a week after he received an Academy Award nomination for best actor for his portrayal of music icon Bob Dylan in the biopic “A Complete Unknown.” It marks the second Oscar nod of Chalamet’s career, as he was previously nominated in the same category for the film “Call Me by Your Name.

Noel Fielding’s AppleTV+ Series Is Dead Because He Gave It the ‘Chappelle’s Show’ Treatment
Image
As Dave Chappelle would put it, technically, Noel Fielding never quit his AppleTV+ period comedy The Completely Made-Up Adventures Of Dick Turpin — he’s just several weeks late for work.

The surrealist comic Fielding has made a career out of being hard-to-pin-down creatively, but, as the hundreds of cast and crew members from Dick Turpin found out recently, the Mighty Boosh and The Great British Baking Show star’s schedule is as inscrutable as his characters. As the title suggests, Dick Turpin told the hyperbolically fictionalized story of the real Victorian-era highwayman by the same name, with Fielding and his talent for over-the-top eccentricities playing the romantic rogue.

After a generally well-received first season, AppleTV+ and Big Talk studios began shooting Season Two late last year, completing an estimated three-quarters of the planned filming before taking a break for the Christmas holiday. However, once the Dick Turpin team returned to set following the festivities,...
