The teaser of actress Hansika Motwani’s film ‘Guardian’ is a gleefully terrifying spectacle of thrills, violence, and supernatural horror. The teaser doesn’t tell much of the story aside from the power of an evil spirit roaming the area in a small locality, waiting for a possession similar in style to ‘Conjuring’.
Hansika’s character is just your average run-of-the-mill girl leading a normal life, seen celebrating Holi, one day it seems that her character is kidnapped and possibly about to be assaulted. The spirit is a shadowy entity which has the form of a woman, and filled with malicious intent she possesses Hansika.
While it then inter-cuts to a spree of violent killings and horrors that people begin facing, a couple of priests were earlier seen doing a ritual, performing some kind of dark magic to seal off this evil.

The film’s regular shooting commenced from June 11 in Chennai. Nivetha Pethuraj, last seen in Jayam Ravi’s Tik Tik Tik, has been roped in to play the leading lady. The film also stars Suresh Menon and veteran filmmaker Mahendran in crucial roles. Having made a comeback of sorts to acting with 2016 Tamil horror-comedy Devi, Prabhudeva has been on a signing spree. He currently awaits the release of director Vijay’s dance-based film Lakshmi. In a recent media interaction, talking about his reunion with Vijay in Lakshmi, Prabhudeva said: “My first film with Vijay was Devi, which turned out to be successful. I thoroughly loved the experience of working with him. We wanted to work again and this is when we thought of doing a sequel to Devi, and we almost went ahead with the plan. But Vijay brought the story of Lakshmi and I really liked it.” Having already starred in dance-based films such as Abcd and Abcd 2, Prabhudeva didn’t want to do another film in the same genre. “When I agreed to do the project, I told Vijay that if we do a dance-based film then it should really stand out. He had a clear vision about what he was doing and he successfully pulled it off. I believe Lakshmi will set a benchmark for dance-based films which are rare in Tamil cinema. The last 25 minutes of the film will be a dance fest, yet it’ll be highly emotional. Having made films that have appealed to all sections of the audiences, Vijay has handled a dance film in a very sensible way. Lakshmi is a film that’ll make audiences laugh, cry and celebrate.” (Content provided by Digital Native)...

Kollywood According to reports, Bharat will not be playing the usual cop seen in every other film. Digital NativeActor Bharath will be playing a cop for the first time in his career. He has been roped in for the role in Kaalidas which is being directed by debutant Sri Senthil. The director of Naalaya Iyakkunar fame has reportedly told Deccan Chronicle: “Bharath is not the usual cop you see in every other film. There’s a persona; side to him in the suspense thriller, and the story, which happens in a span of three days, also deals with it. It looks like Bharath is equally thrilled to essay a cop for the first time in his career.” On getting to play the cop role, Bharath had reportedly told in an interview that he did miss out a couple of opportunities to play a cop but when Sri Senthil came up with the script he just couldn’t say and agreed to ink the dotted lines. The film will also have Suresh Menon in an important role. The last time he was seen in a movie was in the Suriya starrer Thaana Serntha Kootam in which he was seen as a baddie. Aadhav Kannadasan is also in the star cast with a performance-oriented role. Vishal Chandrashekar is the music director for this flick. Ann Sheetal, who made her debut with the Malayalam movie Ezra, starring Prithviraj Sukumaran and Priya Anand in the lead roles, will be seen playing the female lead in Kaalidas. The shooting of this flick has been wrapped up and it has gone into the post production mode. The team was waiting for the Tamil Film Producers’ Council strike to get over to go ahead with the dubbing process and currently Bharath is in the process of completing it, say sources. Bharath made his acting debut with the Shankar directed Boys and has acted in a number of films in Tamil and Malayalam and a few films in Hindi and Telugu. Bharath’s performance in films like Chellame and Kadhal won him accolades and helped his star status move up.The actor recently made his Telugu debut with Mahesh Babu - A.R.Murugadoss's Spyder as the villain in the film. KollywoodFor Suriya, who plays the role of an educated man who wishes to join the Cbi, this movie comes after several poorly received films.Priyanka ThirumurthyLet me start off by declaring that I haven’t watched Special 26, the Akshay Kumar starrer which has been remade into Vignesh Shivan’s latest film Thaanaa Serndha Koottam (Tsk). So, this review is not coloured by comparisons to the Hindi blockbuster. Tsk is a bold heist movie, a concept that has not often been brought to the big screen in Tamil cinema. For Suriya, who plays the hero, this movie comes after several poorly received films. So, to say that it was refreshing to see him comfortable in the role of a young man disillusioned by systemic corruption, is an understatement. The movie is set in 1987 and Suriya plays the role of an educated man who wishes to join the Cbi. He wants to conduct raids and expose corrupt politicians, businessmen, and clean up the system. But Uthaman, a corrupt Cbi officer played by Suresh Menon, acts as a hurdle to this dream and further insults Suriya for having lofty aspirations when he is just the son of a clerk. The hero, who is from a humble background, sees that his friends too are unable to join various government departments due to their lack of resources to pay officials bribes. Enraged by this, he brings together a group of con artists who decide to perform raids by pretending to be Cbi and Income Tax (It) officials. This is where the fun begins. The sequence where the ‘officials’ led by Ramya Krishnan raid a minister’s house is effortlessly funny. Comedians, including Senthil and Sathyan, add to the hilarity with their timing. Ramya Krishnan shines in the role given to her and the director allows the audience a peek into her character’s life, explaining the reason she took up the con job. The other actors, however, provide little or no reason for their need to cheat people for a living. Suriya, who is not new to playing the role of a government authority, is convincing and at his stoic best. The movie shifts from Chennai to rural Tamil Nadu and even Hyderabad as the actual Cbi begin to tail the con group. Yesteryear actor Karthik plays an upright official roped in to catch the gang and it is a match of wit against wit. The climax of the film provides a line of thought that remains problematic in terms of solving the inherent corruption in the system. Clues are given through the movie about the hero’s solution to the problem, but I can’t help but think that it would only lead to further disaster. While Anirudh Ravichander’s background music adds the much required flavour to the film, the sheer number of songs in the first half is a put off. It slows down a screenplay that could have kept you at the edge of your seat to the occasional raising of an eyebrow. The time spent making the characters dance would have been put to better use if their histories and reasons for choosing such a path was explained. You can’t really empathise with anyone but Suriya throughout the film. A special mention must be given to the art direction. Karaikal and Pollachi have both been picturised beautifully, and it looks like a constant carnival. Effort has been made to ensure the vehicles, buildings and electronics shown in the film represent the 80s. The fight sequences have also been choreographed very carefully. And yes, there is a heroine (Keerthi Suresh) but perhaps the film would have been much racier without yet another distraction from the actual plot. Disclaimer: This review was not paid for or commissioned by anyone associated with the film. Neither Tnm nor any of its reviewers have any sort of business relationship with the film's producers or any other members of its cast and crew.

Blind faith in the divine is always something people turn to when in need, yet sometimes that faith can be quite misplaced. Director Nagesh Kukunoor’s Dhanak has shed light on this practice where the two children Chotu and Pari encounter a religious phoney Shira Mata on their life-changing journey to meet their idol and get Chotu’s eyesight back.
Shira Mata, played by the veteran actress Vibha Chibber, seems to be a hilarious take-off on a popular Indian self-styled God-woman who was recently in the news for her loud appearance, connections to Bollywood stars and even bigger claims of preaching the ways of God. By the looks of it, Dhanak also treads on the same path as previous satirical comedies Oh My God! and Pk which tackled the sensitive and controversial topic of blatant misuse and commercialization of religion.

The film stars two young actors, Hetal Gada and Krrish Chhabria, essaying the roles of Pari and Chotu, who are complete show-stealers as they set out on a beautiful journey to meet their hero, Shah Rukh Khan.
However, as a lot of fans have noticed, Chotu is seen wearing a certain silver bracelet in Dhanak’s poster and trailer – a bracelet that is famously worn and considered a lucky charm by another Bollywood superstar! Film: Bheja Fry 2
Director: Sagar Bellary
Cast: Vinay Pathak, Kay Kay Menon, Amole Gupte, Minissha Lamba
Rating: **
A sequel like this one banks on a loyal audience that contributed to making Bheja Fry a sleeper hit in 2007. This reviewer is not a part of that audience. Leaving aside the fact that it was a copy of The Dinner Game, I found the humor pedestrian and the proceedings simply annoying. Bheja Fry 2 is simply listless.
Kk Menon, Vinay Pathak, Amol Gupte & Suresh Menon
We see the return of the righteous but idiotic income tax officer Bharat Bhushan (Vinay Pathak). Bhushan harbours dreams of becoming a singer and when he wins a quiz contest, he decides to put the winnings into making a music video. But first he must cash in on the free trip on a cruise liner accompanied by the show?s producers and investors. Here Bhushan meets womanizing,...
