What do the Bride, Jackie Brown, Django, Mia Wallace, Hans Landa, Cottonmouth, Stuntman Mike McKay, Mr. Pink, Charles Manson and the Gimp all have in common? For one thing, that they’re all characters in a stage musical now playing at the Bourbon Room in Hollywood.
But its creators would rather that you not call “Tarantino Live” a musical per se, or at least not boil it down strictly to that term. For one thing, its “book” — largely an amalgam of dialogue from Quentin Tarantino’s movies — is a sort of loose fantasia tying characters and themes from the films together into a surreal, seriocomic knot, more than any traditional, straight stage narrative. For another thing, the 50-plus songs from the filmmaker’s soundtracks are being licensed for an immersive concert nightclub experience, not a theatrical production… although a transfer to the legit stage is something that’s hoped for down the road.

Green witches, flying carpets, and singing cats are heading from the stage to the screen, as Hollywood appears to have fallen back in love with movie adaptations of its favorite musicals.
It’s a tale as old as time: musicals gather a large following on the Great White Way, causing fans to repeatedly belt out numbers like “Defying Gravity” on the regular, and suddenly audiences wonder who would play the film version of the Wicked Witch of the West.
As there is a slew of musicals on the docket in the next few years, namely with a certain “Hamilton” creator attached, Variety has rounded up some of the current projects moving forward in development:
Aladdin (Expected Release: May 2019)
The hit Disney Renaissance film took a magic carpet ride to Broadway in 2011. And while Robin Williams made everyone want a “friend like him” in the 1992 animated version of “Aladdin,” Will Smith...

As the year draws to a close, Warner Bros. is beginning to look forward, as they’ve provided a few new images and synopses for choice options in their 2012 slate. This crop, only a small portion of their offerings for the next twelve months, consists of Bullet to the Head, Rock of Ages, Project X, and The Apparition. Nothing exhibited here is a big revelation for those who’ve been following the films for a few months — although I did learn that a movie titled “The Apparition” is coming out — but a new picture or two never hurt anybody. Now, let’s get down to business.

The note was practically a high "A-sharp"; the cacophony of voices blended perfectly to form an instantly recognizable tone, striking the right balance of volume and shrill while conveying contagious enthusiasm. There were big smiles, hearty applause and a collective pat on the back. Only this chorus wasn't singing on the set of "Glee"; it was 16 cheering department heads seated around a conference table at the Los Angeles offices of 20th Century Fox Television, the studio that produces the hit Fox show. Piped in via video: another eight team members from Columbia Records in New York.Welcome to the "Gleekly meeting," a pep rally during which the many tentacles that tend to the nearly half-billion-dollar brand convene to discuss the latest strategies for what has become the network's No. 2 priority. Averaging 14 million viewers this season, "Glee" still trails "American Idol" by a good 10 million, but it's inching closer to the juggernaut with each passing day.
