C.S. Lewis’ The Chronicles of Narnia is one of the most beloved children’s series and one of the best-known fantasy works in the history of literature. The stories of the Pevensie family and their friends and allies in the fictional world of Narnia are spread through seven books, starting with The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (1950) and ending with The Last Battle (1956). The series is Lewis’ best-known work even today and while most people have been acquainted with it through the books, there are some who snuck into the world of Narnia via the film adaptations from several years ago.
Three movies were adapted back then and while there were plans to adapt The Silver Chair as well, these failed and in 2018, it was announced that Netflix had acquired the rights to adapt the series in movie and television series format. As things stand now, the first...

This Barbie is having “nightmares” over her next writing project.
“Barbie” writer-director Greta Gerwig said during the BFI London Film Festival, in a discussion with “Succession” creator Jesse Armstrong, that her upcoming film is causing her to have “recurring nightmares” (via The Hollywood Reporter). While she did not name the project, Gerwig is confirmed to direct at least two “Chronicles of Narnia” films for Netflix.
“I’m in the writing process,” Gerwig said of her next, unnamed project, “and it’s hard because I’m having recurring nightmares.”
She previously told Total Film (via Games Radar) that she was “terrified” of taking on “Narnia,” based on C.S. Lewis’ famed fantasy novel series.
“I haven’t even really started wrapping my arms around it,” Gerwig said. “But I’m properly scared of it, which feels like a good place to start. I think when I’m scared, it’s always a good sign.

Greta Gerwig will be helming the new “Chronicles of Narnia” adaptations for Netflix.
The “Barbie” writer-director officially has “at least” a two-picture deal for bringing the beloved novels to life again, this time at the streamer. Four years after Netflix announced a multi-year partnership with The C.S. Lewis Company, The New Yorker confirmed rumors that had circulated for some months that three-time Oscar nominee Gerwig will be attached to direct the “Narnia” films.
The news was shared in a wide-ranging interview with Mattel executives and Gerwig’s team for The New Yorker centered on “Barbie” and the ever-expanding search to find more IP to adapt.
“Greta and I have been very consciously constructing a career,” Gerwig’s UTA agent Jeremy Barber told the publication. “Her ambition is to be not the biggest woman director but a big studio director. And Barbie was a piece of I.P. that was resonant to her.

Out of all the potential literary franchises that started appearing with increasing regularity to try and cash in on the success of The Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter during the early years of the 21st Century, it appeared for a while as though The Chronicles of Narnia was one of the few destined for any sort of continued success.
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe was a huge hit, becoming one of the highest-grossing movies of 2005 after raking in $745 million at the box office, but despite spawning two sequels, the adaptations of C.S. Lewis’ fantasy series never managed to recapture those heights. Both Prince Caspian and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader earned over $300 million less than the opening installment, and any plans for further adventures in Narnia were ultimately shelved.

Get ready to jump back in the wardrobe and get transported to the magical world of Narnia! Lions, Witches, Princes, Silver chairs, and now, a new director.
The Chronicles of Narnia oddly enough is a franchise of films that I have really enjoyed. The first film more than the sequels that followed, but still they were all entertaining in their own right. The franchise started out at Disney then as the profits began to drop they let Fox take the reins. After they saw no major profits, they too dropped franchise. Now it looks as if Sony is ready to restart the franchise with a brand new look.

If The Chronicles of Narnia doesn’t exactly ring a bell, we don’t blame you. Though C.S. Lewis’ novels were hugely popular back when they were published – which was in the 1950s – the feature film adaptations haven’t exactly had the same luck. 2005-2010 saw three movies based on the fantasy world hit theatres in the form of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Prince Caspian and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. While none of them were particularly bad, the quality, and box office returns, certainly dipped as the franchise went on and the plug was eventually pulled after the third outing.
That was seven years ago, but now, there seems to be some renewed interest in the series, as Sony is looking to bring Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair to the big screen, and they’ve hired Captain America: The First Avenger helmer Joe Johnston...

Eleven years after Disney and Walden Media launched The Chronicles Of Narnia franchise in theatres, a new jigsaw of partners has come together to adapt the fourth book in C S Lewis’ fantasy classic.
Sony’s TriStar Pictures label has teamed up with The Mark Gordon Company, The C.S. Lewis Company and ambitious eOne on The Silver Chair, which TriStar, The Mark Gordon Company and eOne will finance.
The parties did not reveal the precise distribution strategy on Tuesday, however the elements raise the prospect of a desirable tentpole presenting itself to international buyers.
Sony and eOne will handle distribution. Screen understands TriStar will release the film in the Us, while eOne would appear likely to release the fantasy in Canada and could also handle in other markets where it distributes directly, namely the UK, Australia/New Zealand, Spain and Benelux.

David Magee was nominated for an Academy Award for his work on Finding Neverland and was more recently recognized for his screenplay of Life of Pi in 2012. He’s got another fantasic book adaptation in his sights in The Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair, my second favorite of the series of seven books.
Producers for The Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair include Mark Gordon, Douglas Gresham, Vincent Sieber for The C.S. Lewis Co. and Michele Wolkoff and Sara Smith for The Mark Gordon Co. This all according to THR who quotes David Magee saying the following about his new venture.
I have always loved The Chronicles of Narnia, and I endlessly imagined myself finding my own passage into Narnia someday. All these years later, I’m getting to fulfill that wish just a little bit by writing the film adaptation of The Silver Chair and could not be more excited about it.

"Life Of Pi" screenwriter David Magee has been hired to pen the script for "The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Silver Chair," the fourth film in the adaptation of the C.S. Lewis novel series.
Set decades after "Voyage of the Dawn Treader" in Narnia (but only a few years in the real world), Eustace Scrubb and his friend Jill Pole are brought to Narnia by Aslan to find the missing heir of a now elderly King Caspian. The missing Prince Rilian disappeared while on a quest to find the green serpent that killed his mother.
Eustace and Jill set off to the giant-lands north of Narnia to find him, and encounter the Lady of the Green Kirtle and a young man who must be bound nightly to a magical Silver Chair.
In a statement, Magee says: "I have always loved The Chronicles Of Narnia and I endlessly imagined myself finding my own passage into Narnia someday.

I've enjoyed the Chronicles of Narnia films over the years, but after the last one I honestly didn't think we would see another as it wasn't the best in the series. The Mark Gordon Company (Saving Private Ryan, Speed, Source Code) wants to bring The Chronicles of Narnia franchise back from the dead. Last time we saw Narnia, it was in 2010’s Voyage of the Dawn Treader, I never saw the movie but it looked quite insufferable. The audience for these movies shrank with each new installment; at one point they were even going to jump to the sixth book in the series (for the good stuff?).

Lewis Company and The Mark Gordon Company partnering to produce the adaptation of Lewis' work. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the deal was announced today, October 1st.
