Phogat has 4 daughters Geeta Phogat, Babita Kumari, Ritu, Sangeeta, and Dushyant, respectively. He looks after his nieces Vinesh Phogat and Priyanka, children of his brother who was killed in a land dispute.
2016 Indian biographical film Dangal is based on Singh's life and his children's journey towards success. Aamir Khan plays the role of Mahavir Singh Phogat.
