As expected, ABC has cancelled their summer series Black Box after one season of 13 episodes, reports EW.
Black Box revolves around a beautiful and brilliant neuroscientist (Kelly Reilly) who's hiding the fact that she's bipolar. The rest of the cast includes Ditch Davey, David Ajala, Terry Kinney, Ali Wong, David Chisum, Laura Fraser, Siobhan Williams, and Vanessa Redgrave.
The series debuted in late April to a 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 6.87 million viewers. It was a mediocre start for the dramatic series and the numbers got progressively worse as new episodes were released. Towards the end of its 13 episode run, Black Box dropped to a 0.6 demo rating with 3.72 million.
The last two episodes aired on July 24th, leaving the main character's professional fate up in the air.

ABC recently cancelled several shows (Mixology, Suburgatory, Betrayal, etc.) and renewed many others (Resurrection, Revenge, The Goldbergs, etc.). What about the new Black Box series that airs on Thursday nights?
The show revolves around a beautiful and brilliant neuroscientist (Kelly Reilly) who's hiding the fact that she's bipolar. The rest of the cast includes Ditch Davey, David Ajala, Terry Kinney, Ali Wong, David Chisum, Laura Fraser, Siobhan Williams, and Vanessa Redgrave.
The show debuted on April 24th to a poor 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 6.87 million viewers. The ratings have gotten even worse as the weeks have progressed. This week's installment hit a new low with a 1.1 rating and 4.31 million.
While ABC hasn't cancelled Black Box, they surely will. The ratings have just been too low to be renewed for a second season.

ABC gave Black Box a straight-to-series order and ordered 13 episodes without seeing a pilot first. They held it until late in the season (typically not a good sign) on Thursdays at 10pm as a replacement for their hit show, Scandal. Will Black Box live up to expectations? Will it be a ratings success and earn a second season or will it be cancelled instead? Stay tuned.

Oh boy. Guys, I do not know what to do with Black Box, ABC’s new medical drama. (Yes, the show is about neither airplanes nor experimental theater; yes, its protagonist’s last name is “Black”; yes, this is a titling convention that must be stopped immediately.)
When its logical left brain is in control, Black Box is an utterly conventional, thoroughly dull entry in the over-saturated “Insufferable Genius” genre. But when the show’s crazy right brain takes over, it’s a jaw-dropping, over-the-top campfest with true potential to fill the Smash-sized hole in your (read: my) heart.

The Black Box – ABC’s “The Black Box” stars Ditch Davey as Dr. Ian Bickman, Kelly Reilly as Catherine Black and David Ajala as Will Van Renseller. (ABC/Andrew Eccles)
Black Box, ABC‘s latest drama, feels a lot like a show created by committee, and constructed largely by piecing together ratings research of plot and character points. A little bit House, a hint of Grey’s Anatomy, and a heaping dose of the hokey, “we’re calling you stupid,” plot construction of Scandal… et voilà. Of course, if those last two are among your favorite shows, welcome to your new obsession.
Dr. Catherine Black (Kelly Reilly) is the world’s most impressive and important neurologist… or whatever. She’s so cool that she has her own facility in New York City. Known as “The Cube,” it’s all neurology, all the time, and Dr. Black runs the show. But,...

New York (AP) — ABC's brainy new medical drama "Black Box" does a neat trick: It dares viewers to imagine for themselves the cost-benefit ratio of addiction, and does it without taking a firm stand. It does it in the person of lovely, top-of-her-field Dr. Catherine Black, known as "the Marco Polo of the Brain," who helps patients navigate a range of neurological disorders. She also secretly wrestles with one of her own: She's bipolar. Meanwhile, she's addicted to the mind-expanding, sometimes rapturous but ultimately dangerous effects of skipping the meds that keep her "normalized," and letting her condition run full tilt. "This show is not a generic examination of bipolarity — not at all," says series star Kelly Reilly. "This is about one woman who is an addict to her disease. The disease is treatable. But it calls for a lifetime of commitment and rearranging medications to see what works and...

Why Watch? Tropfest is a massive launching pad for short filmmaking. In fact, it’s the world’s largest short film festival, taking place every February in Sydney, but the festival itself has a truly global reach and an audience of around 150,000. The judges this year (including Sam Worthington) have chosen to award We’ve All Been There with the top honors, and it’s no doubt because of its ability to fold three stories into each other until they become one. There’s a Crash-like aspect here, but this short film is far less cloying. Jess (Laura Wheelwright) is a pregnant waitress in need of fast cash to avoid losing her house; Joan (Penne Hackworth-Jones) is a middle-aged woman stranded in the middle of nowhere with a flat tire; and Matt (Ditch Davey) is looking for a job without finding much luck. Beyond possibly having the best-named actors in the history of the art form, this...

*there are spoilers here. Director: Justin Dix. Writers: Eddie Baroo, Justin Dix, and Adam Patrick Foster. Cast: Eddie Baroo, Justin Batchelor, Nicholas Bell, John Brumpton, Steven Carroll, Amber Clayton, Ditch Davey and Ngaire Dawn Fai. Crawlspace is an Australian shot sci-fi thriller from first time director Justin Dix. The film's story was developed from one of the actors, Eddie Baroo, and from Adam Patrick Foster (Closure). In Crawlspace, an Aliens inspired military unit is sent below ground into a research facility to close shop. They find Eve (Amber Clayton), a powerful antagonist. The next ninety minutes is then an inspired film from the likes of the aforementioned Aliens, Scanners, Firestarter and more recently Chronicle. All of these inspirations come together in an interesting film, which is both well shot and curiously told. The story initially tracks Eve as she tries to survive a seek and destroy mission. She was formally...

Crawlspace is – well, I don’t really know what Crawlspace is. Justin Dix’s claustrophobic thriller is a little bit sci-fi, a tad bit horror, a smidgen physiologically thrilling, but a whole lot of something else. Whether or not that something is mystifying and brilliant or substance-less and horrid is completely up to the viewer, but Dix certainly gives us a large chunk of varied material to process. Hope you’ve got your “paying attention” caps on for this one, along with a want for variety, as Dix’s film is a handful of genres all mushed together like different colored Play-Doh in the palm of a pre-schooler.
When looking at each part of Crawlspace individually there are certainly parts to love, but unfortunately when pieced together, the whole thing flows like a river with three dams, blocking proper momentum each time there is a tonal shift.

Science can be a wonderful thing that through the years has blessed us with many a wondrous thing. Hell, I still don't even understand how the Kinect works! Still, it's not always good. Nuclear weapons. Man-made viruses. Creatures who live in underground lairs waiting for hapless humans to wander in to become lunch.
According to our friends over at Moviehole (link below), Greg McLean (director, pictured right;Wolf Creek, Rogue, and the upcoming 6 Miranda Drive) will be helping to fend off monsters in the role of executive producer on a new flick called Crawlspace which is filming now in Melbourne.
