Oprah Winfrey’s explosive interview with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle drew a huge audience to CBS this Sunday evening, attracting approximately 17.18 million viewers throughout its two-hour broadcast and a 1.45 rating in the adults, aged 18-49 key demographic.
Compared with last Sunday night’s 78th Golden Globe Awards, which garnered a bleak 6.9 million viewers and a 1.5 rating among the key demo, TV watchers showed up in droves for (technically) ex-British royalty over Hollywood royalty. The sit-down in an estate’s green and flourishing patio, was anything but casual as Oprah showcased the strongest aspects of her journalistic chops and grilled the Duke and Duchess of Sussex with a slew of follow-up questions that led to surprising revelations of what went down behind the scenes in the palace’s walls, per the couple. This was CBS’s most live-streamed event outside of the NFL and Super Bowl Sunday this 2020-2021 season.

It’s not just theatrical movies (like Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Star Trek Beyond, or Jumanji) that are currently trading on nostalgia. Small screen projects are also following suit. Nickelodeon is planning perhaps the most significant of these, with a TV movie based on the popular 1990s game show, Legends Of The Hidden Temple – which now has a premiere date.
Originally created by David G. Stanley, Scott A. Stone and Stephen Brown in 1993, Legends Of The Hidden Temple ran for 120 episodes – each featuring six teams of two 11-14 year olds. The teams competed to find and collect artefacts in a temple filled with treasures, guarded by Mayan protectors. To succeed, the competitors would have to answer questions and undertake physical tasks. The show was hosted by Kirk Fogg, and featured narration from Dee Bradley Baker in the guise of a talking stone head named Olmec.

It was a weekend of highs and lows, with the lows coming from the more-disappointing-than-expected opening weekend for Warner Bros' Pan. The Peter Pan origin story directed by Joe Wright was struggling to gain a foothold well before its opening weekend and opened even worse than even the most dire predictions expected. At the high end of the box office, however, The Martian enjoyed a strong second weekend and, in limited release, Universal appears to have another hit in the making with Steve Jobs. Beginning with Pan, the $150 million production was originally set to be released this summer, but was moved to October so reshoots could take place. Tracking reports had the film opening in the low $20 million range and I predicted a $18.4 million opening, but even that proved too high. Playing in 3,515 theaters, the Hugh Jackman-led fantasy feature could only muster an estimated $15.5 million. The film did score a "B+" CinemaScore,...

They fought till dawn to survive season one, but even though certain characters on El Rey Network's From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series were able to keep culebras from chomping their necks, they're still far from being safe in the upcoming 10-episode second season, which began production today and is slated for a late summer debut. It's been revealed that the season two premiere is being directed by Robert Rodriguez, with a list of familiar horror directors announced to helm other second season episodes starring the returning cast members whose characters managed to stay alive.

From Dusk till Dawn: The Series, Season 1, Episode 5, “Self -Contained”
Written by Matt Morgan
Directed by Joe Menendez
Airs Tuesdays at 9pm (Et) on El Rey Network
“Let’s Get Ramblin”, the fourth episode of From Dusk till Dawn: The Series, was a high point for the freshman series. It was a technical achievement, funny, twisted, well executed, and it moved the story forward. “Self-Contained”, the show’s fifth episode, is another high point for the show, which just keeps getting better and better.
“Self-Contained” is a tightly wound and nerve jangling episode, set mostly in the Rv as the Fullers and the Geckos scramble for power and control over their desperate situation. In that manner it’s not all that different from “Let’s Get Ramblin”. We bounce between characters but each story is fleshed out and we are given a chance to care about what is happening.

This afternoon, Robert Rodriguez posted a pic from From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series that gives us our first look at the notorious Titty Twister. The Mexican bar filled with scoundrels and shitty beer and vampire babes. Ang guess what? It looks just like the old Titty Twister as featured in the 1996 film. I guess they adopted the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" approach. From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series airs its fifth episode tonight on the El Rey Network; Joe Menendez directs. I have to ask: Who is tuning in? I seem to be seeing one of two things...a.) no one can find out what channel the El Rey Network is and b.) there's apprehension about the series' quality.

The Uruguayan powerhouse Fede Alvarez known for last year “The Evil Dead” remake has directed an episode for the upcoming series “From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series”. Though the jury is still out on whether or not Robert Rodriguez remaking his iconic 1996 film From Dusk Till Dawn for his recently launched El Rey television network is a good idea, no amount of fan trepidation is going to delay the arrival of the show, officially titled From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series. Set to run for ten episodes starting in March, From Dusk Till Dawn is by far the buzziest project that El Rey currently has going, and the directors involved should alone be enough to attract horror fans of every variety.
Recently, Entertainment Weekly revealed that Rodriguez has locked down Evil Dead director Fede Alvarez to film the pivotal eighth episode of the series. Though few details are known about the episode, it will feature lots of bloody violence going down inside the series’ main locale, a strip club habited by vampires.

The director of last year’s remake of The Evil Dead is taking on an pivotal episode of From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series.
Fede Alvarez, who impressed fickle Evil Dead fans with his intense and graphic reboot of Sam Rami’s horror classic, is currently shooting the eighth episode of writer-director Robert Rodriguez’s TV reboot of his 1996 cult-favorite film. Taking its cue from an old Latin American proverb that contends, "A thief who steals from a thief will receive 100 years of forgiveness," Ladron que roba a ladron is a heist comedy about a heartless crook who is taken down by two former associates.
But the scam doesn't end there.
It doesn't require an Eagle Eye to see this American-produced, Spanish-language production for what it really is -- an obvious "Ocean's Eleven" knockoff, minus any of that franchise's hip sensibility.
Populated by Latino telenovela stars in a Los Angeles setting, this limited Lionsgate release is facing the tricky challenge of coaxing money out of an audience accustomed to seeing these folks for free, not to mention the fact that moviegoing is traditionally way down on the list of Labor Day weekend activities. DVD definitely would be a better bet.
Directed by TV veteran Joe Menendez from an uninspired script by JoJo Henrickson, Ladron follows the exploits of not-quite-reformed thieves Emilio (Miguel Varoni) and Alejandro (Fernando Colunga), who reunite for one big heist.
The target is Moctezuma Valdez (Saul Lisazo), a ruthless TV infomercial pitchman who has made millions shilling worthless personal-improvement products -- from weight-loss creams to cancer-curing elixirs -- to poor Latino immigrants.
Out to prove there is honor among thieves, Emilio and Alejandro assemble a team of actual day laborers to infiltrate Valdez's estate while emptying his gigantic vault and redistributing the wealth.
While the caper attempts to ape the "Ocean's" style -- right down to the credit sequences and Lisazo's passing resemblance to George Clooney -- it proves to be a pale imitation when it comes to sparkling repartee and crisp pacing.
At least give Menendez and his producers credit for delivering an ensemble who look like they stepped right out of a telenovela (with pit stops at the gym and tanning salon) and onto those sunny L.A. sets, where the perpetually blue skies have been dutifully captured by cinematographer Adam Silver.
