Variety has been given exclusive access to the trailer for Marco Bellocchio’s “Kidnapped” (Rapito), which has its world premiere in Competition at the Cannes Film Festival.
The film starts in 1858 in the Jewish quarter of Bologna, when the Pope’s soldiers burst into the home of the Mortara family. By order of the cardinal, they have come to take Edgardo, their seven-year-old son. The child had been secretly baptized by his nurse as a baby and the papal law is unquestionable: he must receive a Catholic education.
Edgardo’s parents, distraught, will do anything to get their son back. Supported by public opinion and the international Jewish community, the Mortaras’ struggle quickly takes a political dimension. But the Church and the Pope will not agree to return the child, to consolidate an increasingly wavering power.

"He is my love. My first love." Netflix has unveiled the first official trailer for an Italian young love romance titled Caught by a Wave (originally known as Sulla Stessa Onda), marking the feature directorial debut of filmmaker Massimiliano Camaiti. In a sunny summer in Sicily, Sara and Lorenzo meet for the first time. Their young love is born in between the waves but, soon, it will prove stronger than any obstacle. A summer fling in Sicily develops into a heartbreaking love story that forces a boy and girl to grow up too quickly as the deal with the reality of her life. The cast includes newcomers Elvira Camarrone and Roberto Christian as Sara and Lorenzo, along with Vincenzo Amato, Donatella Finocchiaro, Corrado Invernizzi, and Manuela Ventura. This looks very cute and charming, nothing like summer love. And boy Italy looks nice. Here's the first trailer (+ poster) for Massimiliano Camaiti's Caught by a Wave,...

Le Mans ‘66 fires on all cylinders at the highest rate and won’t let you go until you get to the finish line. The chemistry between Matt Damon and Christian Bale is both captivating and heartwarming, with both characters highlights of the film.

A classic Italian children’s book from 1945 gets an update in master illustrator Lorenzo Mattotti’s feature debut, “The Bears’ Famous Invasion of Sicily.” Beautifully drawn with bold colors and appealing shapes, the film’s style is classic animation at its best, clear and pleasing, calculated to charm children and adults alike. The revised storyline, however, about how bears and humans clash, make amends, and then realize they’re too different to live together, can lead to unfortunate and inadvertent interpretations neither Mattotti nor the original author Dino Buzzati intended. In addition, the narrative’s pace, whizzing by from one scene to the next, frustrates an adult’s desire to relish the often-striking images, making the film most suitable for kids incapable of critically engaging with metaphor.
“The Bears’ Famous Invasion” first appeared in print toward the end of World War 2, written and illustrated by the multi-talented Buzzati, whose novel...

One month, 280 films and 70,000 words later, my guide to the films of 2010 is now complete. I hope you've enjoyed reading it all - it's been utterly exhausting but an ultimately rewarding venture I've been single-handedly pulling together since early December. If you have liked it, my only request is that you help spread the word about it now that it's all done.
If you're a fellow blogger or site owner, please give it a plug on your site. If you're a reader, give it a mention on Facebook, Twitter or other online places you might venture. A lot of effort went into this, the greatest reward so far has been seeing it talked about and hearing your reactions. I'm glad many of you have gotten a lot of use out of the previous pages, so I hope you enjoy this final part:
