(Play) for "The House of Blue Leaves;" in 1989, as Best Director (Play)
for "Lend Me a Tenor;" in 1991, as Best Director (Play), for "Six
Degrees of Separation;" and in 1992, as Best Director (Musical), for a
revival of "Guys and Dolls." He was also Tony-nominated three other
times: in 1988, as Best Director (Musical), for a revival of "Anything
Goes;" in 1995, as Best Director (Musical) for "Smokey Joe's Cafe;" and
in 1996, as Best Director (Musical), for a revival of "A Funny Thing
Happened on the Way to the Forum."
