Harvey Keitel transforms into a guru named Marpa, who becomes the spiritual guide of a young girl named Mila (played by “Les Miserables” actor Isabelle Allen), in Italian director Louis Nero’s futuristic drama “Milarepa.”
Set in a “no tech” near future, the English-language indie film – with a cast also comprising F. Murray Abraham; Angela Molina; Franco Nero (no relation to the director); Diana Dell’Erba; Mexico’s Iazua Larios (“Sundown”) and Italy-based Japanese actor Hal Yamanouchi (“The Wolverine”) – just wrapped principle photography on the island of Sardinia, where it made ample use of its ancient megalithic stone constructions, dunes and craggy landscapes. See an exclusive first-look image of Keitel above.
“Milarepa” is a co-production between the director’s L’Altrofilm shingle, British producer Jake Seal’s Black Hanger Studio and Louisiana-based Orwo Studio USA. Orwo Distribution is handling international sales.
The executive producers are Zeno Pisani and Giovanna Maddalena.

How did we get from the hot mess that is director Gavin Hood's "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" to the soulful elegy that is director James Mangold's "Logan?" The answer is Mangold's second entry in the "Wolverine" trilogy, "The Wolverine." Loosely based on Chris Claremont and Frank Miller's limited 1982 comic book arc about Wolvie's adventures in Japan, "The Wolverine" lies precisely at the nexus between Hood's "Wolverine" flick and "Logan." It's more meditative than the former yet less sophisticated and bloody than the latter. It also has some of the CGI beat-em-up silliness that dilutes Hood's film but is absent from Mangold's final chapter in the saga.
Mangold and his leading man, Hugh Jackman, had hoped to make "The Wolverine" the first R-rated "X-Men" film. "I knew that if Hugh and I could get an R, then we'll have the freedom to make an adult film," Mangold told...

Executive producer Massimo Paolucci is trying his hand at film direction with a genre movie led by ex-footballer and boxer Emilio Franchini, and actors Tony Sperandeo and Hal Yamanouchi. Massimo Paolucci, an executive producer with a lengthy career behind him – including Franco Nero’s Forever Blues and Dario Argento’s Dracula 3D, among other works – is making his directorial debut with Medium, an action horror film produced by Daniele Gramiccia (On air – Storia di un successo) in league with Giovanni Franchini’s Emy Productions. What happens when a gang of robbers pulls off a job worth tens of thousands of euros, targeting a bar in the suburbs without imagining for a single second that the owner of said establishment is Cagliostro, a shady individual with links to the murky underworld? What happens is this: the latter doesn’t hesitate to track down this rabble of criminals, offering them an opportunity to.
Stars: Lou Ferrigno, John Steiner, Roland Wybenga, Ennio Girolami, Hal Yamanouchi, Yehuda Efroni, Alessandra Martines, Teagan Clive, Leo Gullotta, Stefania Girolami Goodwin, Donald Hodson, Melonee Rodgers, Cork Hubbert, Romano Puppo, Attilio Cesare Lo Pinto | Written by Luigi Cozzi | Directed by Enzo G. Castellari
Supposedly based on Edgar Allan Poe’s The Thousand and Second Tale of Scheherazade (it’s not), Sinbad of the Seven Seas is yet another Italian fantasy film starring Lou Ferrigno. This time Luigi Cozzi, director of the two Hercules movies, take writing duties on a film directed by Enzo G. Castellari – the same Enzo G. Castellari who made the original Inglorious Bastards and the fan-favourite Bronx Trilogy (1990: The Bronx Warriors, The New Barbarians, Escape from the Bronx).
Apparently, if the rumours are true, Castellari’s take on Sinbad was so unwatchable that Luigi Cozzi had to film reshoots and re-edit the film into the haphazard mess it is today,...

Machinima has released the full trailer for their new web-series, Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist. Street Fighter was one on my favorite games growing up, but it never really seemed to translate very well to film. This might be the best adaptation we ever get because I seriously don't think any studio is going to attempt to make another Street Fighter movie ever again.
The live-action series comes from Ansah, who worked on the fan film Street Fighter: Legacy. He also stars in the series as Akuma, and co-wrote the script with Christian Howard. The series also stars Mike Moh as Ryu, Togo Igawa as Gōtetsu, Akira Koieyama as Gōken, Gaku Space as Gōki, Mark Killeen as Mr. Masters, and Hal Yamanouchi as Senzo.

Despite being one of Marvel’s most insanely popular characters, Wolverine has struggled a bit on the big screen. Sure, Hugh Jackman defied expectations when he first signed on to play the Canadian mutant. After, in the comics, the guy is short and stocky whereas Jackman is over six feet tall. He fit the ensemble in the X-Men trilogy of films quite nicely, playing off James Marsden’s Cyclops as both vied for Jean Grey’s love only to both watch her die in X-Men: Last Stand.
If there was any character ready for a spinoff film, it was Wolverine but X-Men Origins; Wolverine was a bit of a messy disappointment, overstuffed with other mutants and telling his poignant backstory. Still, the character was tantalizing for 20th Century Fox so they went back to the drawing board – and the comics – for inspiration offering up this summer’s The Wolverine,...

In case you hadn’t noticed, there was another Wolverine film out this summer. Hugh Jackman took his cigar-smoking, brow-furrowing, claw-snikt-ing anti-hero to Japan in what was his sixth outing as Logan.
The last solo outing for the mutton-chopped one was X-Men Origins: Wolverine, a film that was bad enough for me to turn off halfway through and seemingly nixed any future ‘Origins’ spin offs, most prominently the mooted Magneto movie. Still, audience affection for the Canadian crime fighter, as well as an ever-game Jackman prompted the production of this outing, with Walk the Line director James Mangold at the helm.

Providing a blockbuster breath of fresh air, The Wolverine ditches the usual end-of-the-world perils in what is Hugh Jackman's sixth turn as the mutton-chopped mutant.
Instead the film chooses a more personal path, adds a distinctive flavour of the Far East and, in setting itself apart in such a way, deserves to claw itself a solid position at the box office.
So far this summer we've had a world-threatening, skyscraper-toppling onslaught of big action movies such as Star Trek Into Darkess, Man of Steel and Pacific Rim, so it's a relief to bring things down to earth a little in the sci-fi/superhero genre.
The Wolverine still has action, of course, but far more character-focused than yet another computer-generated city or two falling down in obvious echoes of 9/11.
Director James Mangold's movie is intense, impressive and involving, with a densely-plotted story of dynastic struggles offering intrigue and betrayal,...

Even Wolverine’s healing factor should not to be able to recover from the adamantium bullet to the head that was X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Based on box office numbers it was quite a success, however nearly all fans and critics feel it was a huge disaster that forever tainted Wolverine’s film stock. The Wolverine would have been a better movie without studio meddling. I’ll say that again in a language that Fox can understand: The Wolverine would have made more money if the studio hadn’t messed with it. I have no idea if that last part’s true (considering that it made $141M worldwide this weekend), but a few things make the first one gospel. For the most part the movie eschews the kind of planet-destroying high stakes that have become the staple of the genre (and the summer), but while that’s refreshing, it gets into some serious trouble in the third act. A finale that reeks of studio notes visible on the screen. When it comes to primer’s on how to blow a good story, X-Men Origins has this beat, but it’s still got a few solid lessons. To describe those lessons, there are going to be some spoilers. After...

‘The Wolverine’ 2013 movie box office: Latest domestic summer season disappointment (photo: Hugh Jackman in ‘The Wolverine’) Starring Hugh Jackman, the James Mangold-directed The Wolverine debuted with a way lower than expected $21 million from 3,924 venues (3,063 of which in 3D) on Friday, July 26, 2013, including $4 million from Thursday evening and midnight shows, according to studio estimates found at Box Office Mojo. Generally speaking, $4 million or whereabouts from midnight screenings (in years past not including late Thursday shows) usually translates into a $60+ million opening weekend gross in North America — e.g., in summer 2011, Kenneth Branagh / Chris Hemsworth’s Thor with $65.72 million, and Joe Johnston / Chris Evans’ Captain America: The First Avenger with $65.05 million; in summer 2012, Marc Webb / Andrew Garfield’s The Amazing Spider-Man with $62 million; and earlier this summer season, Marc Forster / Brad Pitt’s World War Z with $66.41 million. World War Z‘s domestic overperformance notwithstanding, perhaps those late Thursday shows (and...

New The Wolverine movie delivered great action, drama, storyline, & more. 20th Century Fox released their new hardcore action flick, "The Wolverine" into theaters this weekend. I just checked it out,and thought it was really great, serving up major action, suspense, drama, great plot, and more. The movie stars: Hugh Jackman, Will Yun Lee, Svetlana Khodchenkova, Hiroyuki Sanada, Hal Yamanouchi, Tao Okamoto, Rila Fukushima, and Brian Tee. In the new flick, Wolverine aka Logan gets found by Yukio, just as he's getting ready to throw down in a violent bar fight in Canada, claiming her employer, Yashida, wants to speak with him, because Logan saved his life way back when. The only problem is Yashida lives in Tokyo,Japan. Yukio eventually persuades him to go,but just for a day. Later, when Logan arrives at Yashida's home,he quickly learns the real reason Yashida wanted to see him, was to...

"To be, or not" ... let's make it "To slash, or not to slash." Because this latest X-Men movie is a lot more existential than recent installments in this comic book series have been.
"The Wolverine" is nothing if not ambitious -- a moody, haunted tale of Logan the Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) coping with his ghosts and settling old debts -- in Japan, no less. It's the perfect country for a guy who appreciates a good, sharp blade.
And if this James Mangold ("Walk the Line") take on the superhero franchise stumbles up blind alleys, overreaches and turns long and repetitious by its bloody-bland predictable third act, at least it gives Jackman something worth chewing over for the first 90 minutes.
We first see our man Logan in solitary, stuck in a well in a Japanese Pow camp at the end of World War II. His captors panic at the sight of a couple of B-29 bombers,...

Let me get this out of the way, The Wolverine is not your typical Marvel mutant movie. If you’re hoping to see a smorgasbord of mutants show up to help the ol’ Canucklehead through the streets of Japan, where most of this film takes place, you’ll be extremely disappointed. I, on the other hand, wasn’t. After X3 and X-Men Origins: Wolverine, I had had enough. I needed a fresh start. First Class was a big step towards wiping the later X-films from my memory, and thankfully The Wolverine swoops in to finish the job one year before Brian Singer returns to the series as the director of Days of Future Past. That isn’t to say The Wolverine is without flaws, but as a whole, it’s another step in the right direction to fixing the X-Men movie franchise. Director James Mangold did a good job as...

Hugh Jackman returns for the seventh time as Logan/Wolverine in Marvel.s .The Wolverine,. a superhero movie that is really more about being a hero than being super. This time, the adventure takes our hero to Japan to say goodbye to a dying billionaire named Yashida. But it.s not just a friendly visit. Joining Jackman in the cast are Haruhiko Yamanouchi, Tao Okamoto, Rila Fukushima, Hiroyuki Sanada, Will Yun Lee, Brian Tee, and Svetlana Khodchenkova. Famke Janssen also returns to the franchise as Jean Grey, the love of Logan.s life.
And pssst, two characters from the .X-Men. franchise also return for .The Wolverine. Easter Egg found mid-credits.
Directed by James Mangold (.Walk the Line,. .3:10 to Yuma.), is .The Wolverine. worth all the hype? Take a look at my review below:...

★★★☆☆ Whilst Wolverine remains one of Marvel's most popular characters, his latest big screen appearance is low on hype. Maybe because it's released in the same year as superhero juggernauts Iron Man 3 and Man of Steel, or perhaps the critically-savaged X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009) is still weighing on people's minds. James Mangold's The Wolverine (2013) presents us with a different kind of superhero movie, and whilst it gives us a solid examination of the 'ol' Canucklehead', the film's problems - many of which occur in the final third - prevent it from being the definitive take on the character.
Loosely based on Chris Claremont and Frank Miller's celebrated 1980s comic book arc, The Wolverine finds Hugh Jackman's eponymous hero exiled in the wilderness, struggling to come to terms with killing his love Jean Grey (Famke Janssen, cleverly used here) at the end of X-Men: The Last Stand (2006). Film: "The Wolverine"; Cast: Hugh Jackman, Hiroyuki Sanada, Famke Janssen, Will Yun Lee, Rila Fukushima, Tao Okamoto, Svetlana Khodchenkova and Hal Yamanouchi; Director: James Mangold; Rating: **
After "Red 2" and "Turbo" last week, here's another film based on a comic book character. For the uninitiated, "The Wolverine" is a "ronin" mutant superhero with metallic claws rising from his knuckles. He often appears as an associate of the X-Men.
This film is a pure pulp fiction based on the 1982 limited series on the character's exploits in Japan. Though the film connects and refers to various past "X-Men" films, this one is no sequel. It has a consolidated story by itself and the past references beautifully merge with the.

The Wolverine
Directed by: James Mangold
Cast: Hugh Jackman, Rila Fukushima, Svetlana Khodchenkova, Haruhiko Yamanouchi, Famke Janssen, Tao Okamoto
Running Time: 2 hrs 6 mins
Rating: PG-13
Release Date: July 26, 2013
Plot: A brooding immortal mutant (Jackman) is recruited by a wealthy dying acquaintance (Yamanouchi) to protect his daughter (Okamoto).
Who’S It For? Fans of Wolverine who like him for more than just his claws.
Expectations: Before the screening I had joked at least twice of suffering from summer movie fatigue, which is an actual medical disease. How would this second Wolverine story try to stand out, especially in the big silly shadow of its predecessor X-Men Origins: Wolverine?

Chicago – Following the release of “Iron Man 3” and “Man of Steel,” “The Wolverine” is the best of the bunch, simply by following “The Dark Knight” and the Marvel Comics formula, creating a conflicted superhero who cannot conform to any conventional definition of heroism.
Rating: 3.5/5.0
But also like those aforementioned Summer of 2013 films, “The Wolverine” suffers from an overblown conclusion that based on other points of the narrative could have been avoided. It’s the story in this Wolverine saga that is the most intriguing of the super movies, not having to explain any origin of the man, yet still giving him enough angst to anticipate a savory redemption. The Asian angle was also a brilliant stroke – the film takes place in Japan – and includes an amazing flashback to the atomic bomb hit of Nagasaki during World War 2. This is grand entertainment in this genre, and almost – almost! – got through...

The X-Men brand seems to have sort of worn itself out. Yes, many loved X-Men: First Class, but even that felt a little stale to me on the heels of X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men Origins: Wolverine, neither of which exactly blew the doors off. Granted, I actually don't think any of those are out-and-out disasters as much as I feel the franchise hit such a high note with X2 ten years ago that it has failed to live up to such lofty results ever since. It's easy enough to find a film mildly entertaining, but I have yet to be as impressed as I was with Nightcrawler's attack during the opening of X2, or an X-film that lived up to that film's entirety. Cue drector James Mangold's The Wolverine. As much as everyone disliked 2009's Wolverine feature I found it to be something easily dismissed, yet easily consumed.

We start the Top 7. You finish the Top 10.
He’s done it five times now. Hugh Jackman has put on the claws, facial hair, and jacket. He has snarled and screamed to the heavens. We love it, right? So why not figure out what the best moments are from the films X-Men, X2: X-Men United, X-Men: The Last Stand, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and now The Wolverine. Let’s not forget his cameo, and It doesn’t look like Jackman’s reign as Wolverine will be ending any time soon with X-Men: Days of Future Past coming. Also, if you see The Wolverine this weekend, there is an additional scene worth sticking around for about half way through the credits.

When director James Mangold and star Hugh Jackman took the stage for their Q&A with “a few clips” at Comic-Con, they had some baggage to confront. Jackman, especially, acknowledged the many, many, many shortcomings of X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Mangold and Jackman discussed wanting to deliver the Wolverine, hence the title, The Wolverine. Fans have been waiting for the essential Wolverine tale and, for the most part, the two have succeed in giving it to them. The film beings where X-Men: The Last Stand was too busy and bland to go: Logan struggling with the death of Jean Grey (Famke Janssen). Like most depressed people, Wolverine is buried under a deep bushy beard to show you his pain over his loss. He’s keeping to himself in the mountains, living as an animal. Then a mysterious (and incredibly badass) figure comes to town, Yukio (Rila Fukushima), to bring him back to the world. She...
