City of Gold
The Mumbai of today boasts of several glitzy malls, multiplexes, bowling alleys and lounge bars with addresses that refer to these being earlier locations of cloth mills (for example, PVR Phoniex Mills, the address of one of the upscale multiplexes). Those who know the history of these mills would know how the great strike of the early 1980s by mill workers, protesting gradual closure of the ‘loss-making’ mills by their owners, had driven the death knell for not only these industrial structures but also the thousands who earned their livelihoods by working in them. Now, almost three decades later, that story of mill workers is almost forgotten, except for maybe those who are involved with a few court cases here and there still lingering on. In a economically-upward India where the cities are earning their brownie points through humongous, modern day structures that comprise residential properties, corporate offices and businesses mentioned above,...

Ramgopal Varma's love for horror and supernatural continues. This time, in Phoonk 2, the team behind Phoonk promise more chills, more thrills and more screams. But what you get to hear at the end of the screening is a moan, since Phoonk 2 lacks the chills, thrills and screams that were the mainstay of its first part.
A sequel works if it goes one step ahead of the first part, in terms of content mainly. But Phoonk 2 doesn't take a step forward, but a step backwards. So what's the problem? Let's get into the introspection mode...
The problem is, what does the viewer expect from Phoonk 2? More terrifying and scary moments, right? But Phoonk 2 comes across as one of those usual revenge films, which tries so hard to create an eerie atmosphere, but never succeeds. It's more of a slasher film actually!

Film: ‘Suryakanthi’; Director: K.M. Chaithanya; Cast: Chetan, Regina, Nasser, Ganesh Yadav, Ramakrishna and Kishori Ballal; Music: Ilayaraja; Rating:**1/2
K.M. Chaithanya’s second film ‘Suryakanthi’ had aroused a lot of expectations before its release because his debut venture ‘Aa Dinagalu’ had hit the jackpot. ‘Suryakanthi’, however, is a total commercial entertainer unlike his first movie.

Movie Review: Ruslaan; Star cast: Raajveer, Meghaa Chatterjee, Asrani, Shahbaaz Khan, Ganesh Yadav, S.M. Zaheer and Smita Jaykar; Director: Mohan C. Sharma; Rating: * - Nothing new!
There has come a sea change in the face of cinema. Filmmakers are experimenting with different genres today but they are still some who keep digging the old concepts, which are no longer contemporary.
Ruslaan is a creation of one such filmmaker Mohan C. Sharma who has nothing new to offer. Ruslaan’s (Raajveer) life is just perfect. He has a family of parents and sister who love him and.
