Hollywood's "Material Girl" is ready for a new home. E! News can confirm Madonna recently purchased a Los Angeles estate for $19.3 million. In fact, the property was previously owned by The Weeknd, who listed the massive house back in June 2020. The "Blinding Lights" singer originally purchased the home in 2017 for $18.2 million allowing him to make some profit. The Weeknd was represented by Angel Salvador at The Agency while Madonna was represented by Trevor Wright at The Beverly Hills Estates. Located in the gated community of Hidden Hills, the ultra-private estate spans three acres and boasts a 7-bedroom main house, 2-bedroom guest house and exceptional lifestyle...

She’s back! After a dozen years hopping around among New York City, the Hamptons and Lisbon, Portugal, Madonna has decided to set down some multimillion-dollar roots in Los Angeles.
Though she’s recently been on the East Coast, where she celebrated Easter in the Hamptons, the shape-shifting pop star returned to the City of Angels last year amid the Covid-19 lockdowns, and while in town has been holed up in a lavish rented estate in the Coldwater Canyon area of Beverly Hills. Her decision to stay a while just might have something to do with the biopic about her life that she’s slated to direct and that she has co-written with Diablo Cody.
The mononymous “Like a Virgin” singer, now 62, social media savvy and still pushing sociocultural buttons, turning out fashion trends and making hit records — her 14th studio album, Madame X, released in 2019, was her ninth to...

Trevor Wright photographed by Clinton Gaughran for AfterElton
At 30 years old, Trevor Wright can claim his ride in the entertainment industry has been both varied and very long. He began as a Gap spokeskid who landed a role in Paula Abdul's "Forever Your Girl" video alongside Elijah Wood, and he grew up landing roles on The George Lopez Show, NYPD Blue, Scrubs, and Boston Public. Then came the role for which AfterElton.com readers tend to be most appreciative: Zack in Shelter, the 2007 independent gay romance written by the film's director Jonah Markowitz. Wright's innocence and sensitivity in the role helped seal its position in our poll of the 100 greatest gay films ever -- it came in at #1. Yes, ahead of Brokeback Mountain. Anne Hathaway's resentment is palpable.

Peter Dinklage has joined X-Men: Days of Future Past in an unknown role, but let's be honest, Dinklage makes pretty much everything better.
GLAAD is meeting with CBS over a transphobic slur on Mike & Molly. Mike described "the she-male incident of '08" to his friend. GLAAD will also address what they call a disturbing trend towards Glbt people on the network, which is always at the bottom of GLAAD's rankings.
Olympian Oscar Pistorious, the man who ran on artificial legs, has been charged with the murder of his girlfriend. Details are scarce, but it was either a Valentine's surprise gone wrong or something much darker.
Celebrities including Jessie J, Florence Welch, Ben Drew, Ai Weiwei, Elizabeth Hurley, Paulo Coelho, George Takei, Kelly Osborne, Lara Stone, Stephen Fry, David Walliams, Jamie Oliver and Shane Warne are pricking their fingers and showing a drop of blood for Valentine's Day in support of...

Brace yourselves. This list of the Top 100 Greatest Gay Movies is probably going to generate some howls of protest thanks to a rather major upset in the rankings. Frankly, one that surprised the hell out of us here at AfterElton.
But before we get to that, an introduction. A few weeks ago we asked AfterElton readers to submit up to ten of their favorite films by write-in vote. We conducted a similar poll several years ago, but a lot has happened culturally since then, and a number of worthy movies of gay interest have been released. We wanted to see how your list of favorites had changed.
We also wanted to expand our list to 100 from the top 50 we had done previously. We figured there were finally enough quality gay films to justify the expansion. And we wanted to break out gay documentaries onto their own list (You'll find the...

Ving Rhames joins Mary-Louise Parker and James Woods have joined the cast of Jamesy Boy, the feature film debut of director/co-writer Trevor Wright. The story centers on... ... a young man who goes from suburban street gangs to a maximum-security prison surrounded by hardened criminals. In prison, James fosters an unlikely friendship with a convicted murderer who ends up becoming his mentor and ultimately defines and changes the course of his life. Hmmm... gee... I wonder who's going to play the role of the convicted murdered/mentor/life-changer? I wonder... :) The young man will be played by newcomer Spencer LoFranco. No word on what characters Mary-Louise Parker and James Woods are playing... I'm guessing the young man's parents? Filming begins next month.

Tom Cullen and Chris New spend the weekend together in Andrew Haigh's Weekend Writer-director Andrew Haigh's gay love story Weekend scored the highest per-theater average this weekend (Sept. 23-25) at the North American box office according to Box Office Mojo. Screening at one New York City theater, the Sundance Selects-distributed Weekend — which, by the way, has nothing to do with Jean-Luc Godard's 1967 film of the same name — grossed an estimated $25,200. For the mathematically challenged: $25,200 at one theater equals a $25,200 per-theater average. Featuring Tom Cullen and Chris New as two gay men who during a seemingly long weekend discover that a one-night stand has metamorphosed into something more profound, the British-made Weekend has been greeted by overwhelmingly positive reviews. Haigh's movie, in fact, has a 96% approval rating among Rotten Tomatoes' critics, with Salon's Andrew O'Hehir calling it "one of the bravest, most honest and most accomplished stories of...

[With I Was A Teenage Werebear playing film festivals and Chillerama set to debut later this year, Tim Sullivan writes up the first of two parts, regarding his experiences bringing this unique film to life! --Dqm]
As I write this, I am sitting in my hotel room in Honolulu, one day before the world premiere of my Chillerama segment, I Was a Teenage Werebear at the Rainbow Film Fest.. It’s been a long journey to get to this point. I am grateful to so many who supported my journey, and even more grateful to those who did not, for they only strengthened my fortitude to be true to myself, and to my artistic vision. Hawaii will be followed by a 3 month tour on the Lgbt film circuit, before Werebears joins its companion films as part of Chillerama late summer/early fall. (I cannot Wait to tell you what me, Adam Rifkin, Joe Lynch and Adam Green got planned for That!!!!)
With the ocean breeze wafting through the balcony windows, I find myself in a reflective mode. For those who don’t already know it, let me just spell it out.

To commemorate that yesterday, May 17th, was the International Day Against Homophobia, here’s a spotlight on some influential films in queer cinema (within the last decade or so and in no particular order) that gave way to more visibility and awareness within media and popular culture .
Brokeback Mountain (2005)
Who could forget the incredible commercial success that was Brokeback Mountain when this film hit the circuits? This was one of the most successful mainstream gay films up until that point. This adaptation of a short story by Annie Proulx, dubbed by pop culture as ‘that gay cowboy movie’, explored the romance of two tortured men in the American West of the 1960s through to the 1980s. Helmed by Ang Lee, this film launched the careers of stars Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal into entirely bigger hemispheres and captured the hearts of gay men everywhere while also creating larger exposure on...

This week: Will there be a sequel to Shelter? What makes an anti-slur word offensive? Are gay foreign films better than American ones?
Have a question about gay male entertainment? Contact me here (and be sure and include your city and state and/or country!)
Q: Hey Arnold, the popular 1990s TV show on Nickelodeon, is known for subtly touching on issues which most, if not all, other children's shows wouldn't touch. For example, one of the character's moms was obviously an alcoholic, and the kids' fourth-grade teacher was gay (this was confirmed by the guy who made the show, Craig Bartlett). Are there any other children's shows with gay characters, whose gayness has been officially confirmed? -- Selina, Suny Oneonta
A: You’re right that creator Craig Barlett did confirm, after-the-fact, that Robert Simmons, Arnold’s second fourth grade teacher (voiced by Frasier’s Dan Butler, an out actor), was gay.

The most amusing part about David Fincher’s “The Social Network” is the how they’re trying to turn the film into some kind of International spy thriller that may destroy the country as we know it! Just kidding on that last part. But they do seem to be taking this subject way too seriously; or at least, the teaser trailer seems to think a movie about the founding of Facebook is going to change the world. The sheer, overwhelming self-importance of “The Social Network” teaser trailer is astounding. I don’t know whether to laugh or scratch my head that David Fincher actually directed this thing. The guy who did “Seven”? Really? Wow. Anyways, check out the teaser trailer courtesy of, of all places, Mashable. Starring Joseph Mazzello, Jesse Eisenberg, Rashida Jones, Brenda Song, Rooney Mara, Justin Timberlake, Andrew Garfield, Malese Jow, Max Minghella, Trevor Wright, Dakota Johnson, and directed by David Fincher.

A movie about the creation of Facebook. It sounds so mundane, doesn’t it? Then again, apparently the book that the movie is based on has plenty of intrigue, friendship, backstabbing, sex, and murder. Okay, maybe not murder, but probably almost-murder, or at least, thought-about-doing-murder, though not necessarily actual murder. It would have been cool if it did, though. Based on the non-fiction novel by Ben Mezrich, “The Social Network” chronicles the founding of the social-networking website Facebook by two college friends (Jesse Eisenberg and Joseph Mazzello), whose friendship suffers as their project grows in fame. Starring Joseph Mazzello, Jesse Eisenberg, Rashida Jones, Brenda Song, Rooney Mara, Justin Timberlake, Andrew Garfield, Malese Jow, Max Minghella, Trevor Wright, Dakota Johnson, and directed by David Fincher. Join the network October 1, 2010.

2001 Maniacs: Field of Screams has come off a long series of festivals runs including a stop at the Texas Frightmare Weekend and now the film has something bloodily spectacular for fans. In this very graphic red band clip below several carnival goers meet an unfortunate fate via cleaver, pitchfork, and strangulation, with another scene involving cannibalism and a dismembered body part or two. So, if you are eighteen or older then step inside Tim Sullivan's fatalistic creation with the clip inside and prepare for the film's release on DVD July 20th.

Any cinephile out there knows the difference between a green and a red band trailer, but for the sake of clarity -- green band trailers feature nothing objectionable, and red band trailers give us a taste of the good stuff that we want like gore and maybe a glimpse or two at, shall we say, some less than family-friendly situations. But what if we went beyond red band?
That's exactly what director Tim Sullivan has done with this special sneak peek at his latest film, 2001 Maniacs: Field of Screams, along with the following message:
"Last week First Look Studios premiered their Green Band and Red Band trailers for 2001 Maniacs: Field Of Screams.
What First Look didn't show you is this super exclusive "not safe for work" Beyond Red Band Trailer that I cut with my editors Adam Robitel and Dan Flesher for the Big Bear Horror Film Festival back in October.

2001 Maniacs: Field of Screams sees director Tim Sullivan returning for yet another brilliant love-letter to Herschell Gordon Lewis’ original gore films of the 60’s, the film delivers on all counts, building on the original 2001 Maniacs to create what is essentially a horror comic brought to life on the screen.

Have a question about gay male entertainment? Ask the Monkey! (Please include your city and state and/or country.)
Q: One of my friends has recently turned me on to country music (I am not sure whether to thank him yet or not). Are there any who are out, or who are known to have a positive relationship with the Lgbt community? -- Megan, Canton, Ohio
A: No out mainstream acts, but some country acts have been open, vocal supporters of us – most notably, Dolly Parton, The Dixie Chicks, Faith Hill and her husband Tim McGraw, and even Marie Osmond (who, as we all know, is both “a little bit country” and the mother of a lesbian). And, of course, most of the cool alt-country acts that I personally adore are on record as supporting us: Jimmy Dale Gilmore, Roseanne Cash, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Emmylou Harris, etc.
But can I just say?...

Just a few days after the teaser art for 2001 Maniacs: Beverly Hellbillys dropped, we've now gotten our hands on the official word concerning Tim Sullivan's sequel and the first ever stills for you guys to dig on!
So the big question on everyone's mind has been will Robert Englund be reprising his role? The short answer is no, but in his place will be none other than Bill Moseley!
According to Sullivan and producer Christopher Tuffin, this entry is as much a wild re-imagining of the preceding films as a sequel to them. Everyone's intention was to raise the stakes beyond the ordinary glut of by-the-numbers horror releases to create a smart, genre-defying feature that pushes every limit to the extreme. Tuffin compares Maniacs to an episode of “South Park” or “The Simpsons” in the sense that Maniacs is nothing less than a carnival house mirror held up to American culture.

Trevor Wright and Brad Rowe
I had the pleasure of meeting actors Brad Rowe and Trevor Wright, who played surfing buddies-turned-lovers in last year's well-received gay romance Shelter, at the GLAAD Media Awards a few weeks back. Now, I've met a lot of straight actors who have played gay and made nicey-nice with their gay fanbases without really caring either way, but these guys are the real deal.
As soon as I said "AfterElton", Rowe responded, "Heeyyyyy, we love you guys!" and thanked us and our readers for voting Shelter into the #3 slot of our 50 Greatest Gay Movies poll. Our pleasure, Brad!

One of the positives of Vacancy 2: The First Cut is that its existence suggests that the efficiently scary original, a box-office disappointment in theaters, found a wider audience on video—enough to encourage the production of this Sony Pictures direct-to-disc follow-up. Another is that as DVD sequels go, this one doesn’t shame its predecessor.
It no doubt helped that producer Hal Lieberman and scripter Mark L.
