It’s one thing to have the moves like Jagger — it’s another to wow Mick Jagger so much he starts dancing in the studio. However, such pinch-me moments have become common for “Sugar” singer Francesco Yates, whose musical rise has also seen him make his mark with Drake, tour with Justin Timberlake, and get memorable advice from Sir Paul McCartney.
“I feel like people think I’m lying about some of these stories, but I’m not,” laughs the Scarborough, Canada, native, speaking to us before performing at California’s Shoreline Amphitheatre, opening for the Backstreet Boys on their “DNA” world tour. “I feel very lucky.”
The 26-year-old musician’s also pinching himself about being back touring after Covid-19 brought his star-studded climb to a halt. Of course, the pandemic couldn’t dim the drive of a performer who was just two when he began singing and strumming away at a toy guitar.

Tamar Braxton knows a thing or two about hair. Whether performing for big crowds, walking a star-studded red carpet or running around with her son, this busy mom realizes that a good hairstyle can be invaluable. And yes, it can totally be switched up depending on the occasion. So perhaps it's only fitting that Tamar decided to team up with celebrity hair guru Johnny Wright for a new VH1 show that helps rescue clients whose hair has been botched by a beautician from their past. "To Catch a Beautician is the perfect show to watch now because it's funny, relatable and very entertaining. Most of us are concerned about our hair and what a hot mess it is from not being done," Tamar...

Tamar Braxton is adding to her reality TV resume with hosting a new beauty series entitled “To Catch a Beautician” for VH1, Variety has learned exclusively.
The Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter is partnering with celebrity hairstylist Johnny Wright on the series that debuts May 25. The duo will help clients confront the beautician who damaged their hair; Wright then puts the stylists through a “hair boot camp” before giving them the chance to redeem themselves by redoing their disgruntled clients’ hair.
In an exclusive interview with Variety on Monday, Braxton said she’s been keeping the project a secret for about a year.
“I’ve been so excited about this. This is like a dream come true to be able to host a show that’s so much fun with an amazing production company [Scout Productions] and amazing network like VH1,” Braxton said. “To meet so many amazing people and to be able...

As Sean “Diddy” Combs prepares to reprise “Making the Band,” Danity Kane’s Aubrey O’Day is still recovering from trauma that followed her run on the MTV series.
Under Diddy’s guidance, the 35-year-old singer found fame in reality television, first on “Making the Band,” which auditioned hopeful vocalists for a spot in a to-be-formed music group. The show was launched in 2000 on ABC by late music mogul Lou Pearlman (who formed O-Town on the series’ first season) before Diddy took over the franchise for MTV in 2002, leading to the formation of groups including Danity Kane and Day 26.
Reflecting on her time on the series during an interview with Variety, O’Day claims she experienced behavior from Diddy that she believes he would “not at all” get away with these days. “Diddy’s a father, so hopefully he’s learned things about the way that you handle women and...

Justin Timberlake has a new press representative. The singer has signed with Sunshine Sachs, the firm that represents Janet Jackson, Variety has learned. He will be handled by Shawn Sachs, Paula Witt and Maggie Faircloth. Witt’s clients include Jackson and Aerosmith while Faircloth reps Solange.
The company’s founder Ken Sunshine first advised Timberlake back in 2004 following the infamous Janet Jackson wardrobe malfunction at the Super Bowl that year. Sunshine Sachs declined comment.
Timberlake’s press had previously been handled by M2M Construction. The parting was mutual. He had worked with the same public relations strategist for more than 20 years, starting with his days in *Nsync.
Timberlake recently wrapped the North American leg of his “Man of the Woods” tour where he sold out all 2018 arena dates. He’s currently playing in Europe and heads back to the U.S. on Sept. 19.
