In the spring of 1949, Hank Williams had his first Number One hit with “Lovesick Blues” and made his final appearance on the Louisiana Hayride. He would then join the Grand Ole Opry, where he made his triumphant debut that June, shortly after his son, Hank Jr., was born. In October of that monumental year for the entertainer, Williams began hosting his first syndicated radio program, The Health & Happiness Show. In honor of the show’s upcoming 70th anniversary, BMG will release both a two-cd and three-lp vinyl set containing the...

Although Hank Williams’ death at age 29 on January 1st, 1953, marked a premature end to what had been a remarkable career, his legacy has survived — and thrived — not only through his classic recordings but also through the two generations of family members who have forged their own paths in country music and beyond. Williams, who was born 95 years ago on September 17th, was followed into entertainment by his two children, Hank Williams Jr. and Jett Williams, and more recently by Hank Jr.’s children Shelton (a.k.a. Hank 3), Holly and...

★★☆☆☆ To hear 'em sing with a heavy heart don't half tear you up. What a shame then, that I Saw The Light delivers none of the emotional gut-punch that country music might claim as its chief contribution to popular song. The story of how Hank Williams (Tom Hiddleston), with some help from his wife and manager Audrey Williams (Elizabeth Olsen), became an icon of country music is entertaining without any real fascination and the film chugs along a little too sedately.

Back in the midst of 2015, it seemed like the Hank Williams biopic I Saw the Light was all set to be a big Academy Award player. Considering how small this week’s platform release of the film is, as well as its middling festival circuit reception, that seems less than likely, but it is somewhat interesting to take note of. The main point of consideration was going to be Tom Hiddleston as Williams, as well as potentially Elizabeth Olsen as wife Audrey Williams, though now I suspect they’re fringe players at best. I’ll return to their Oscar hopes later on in this article, but I just wanted to cite this film today since it’s one of a ton hoping to be a biopic contender in 2016. The movie is a fairly standard biopic. Of course, the subject is legendary country-western singer Hank Williams and his life that was cut short.

Legendary country singer Hank Williams and his wife Audrey Williams had a very complicated relationship.
Mark Abraham's film I Saw the Light tells the story of the country artists, played by Tom Hiddleston, and the film focuses on his extra-marital affairs, of which there were many.
We caught up with Abraham and Elizabeth Olsen, who plays Hank's wife in the film, when they were here for the premiere back in September at the Toronto International Film Festival. They discuss playing tribute to the artist, but also showing the darker side of his life, an aspect that lead to his downfall and young death at age 29.
Check out the interview below and see I Saw the Light, in theatres on April 1st.

Giving the role of American country music legend Hank Williams to English actor Tom Hiddleston is pretty much the antithesis of typecasting.
Hiddleston is a Royal Academy-trained thespian who won the Laurence Olivier Award for his turn in a 2007 stage production of Shakespeare’s Cymbeline. He’s best known to North American audiences as Loki, the eloquent villain of Marvel’s cinematic universe.
Williams, on the other hand, is the twangy Alabama country icon who produced the classics “Hey, Good Lookin’,” “Your Cheatin’ Heart” and “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry” in the late 1940s and early 1950s.
Yet there’s Hiddleston southern-drawling his way through classic Hank Williams tunes in director Marc Abraham’s bio-pic I Saw the Light.
How did he transform?
“It actually all started here in Toronto,” recalls Hiddleston during an interview at the Toronto International Film Festival where I Saw the Light had its world premiere.

I Saw the Light may have been pushed back to March of 2016, but it didn’t change the premiere plans, or dampen anyone’s spirits. The premiere, which was on the 17th at the Belcourt Theatre in Nashville, saw writer/director Marc Abraham and the film’s cast enjoying the scene during the red carpet and an after party, which included music by Tom Hiddleston.
In attendance: writer/director Marc Abraham, Tom Hiddleston (“Hank Williams”), Elizabeth Olsen (“Audrey Williams”), Bradley Whitford (“Fred Rose”), Maddie Hasson (“Billie Jean Jones”), and Wrenn Schmidt(“Bobbi Jett”). Also joining them on the carpet was Hank Williams’ Daughter Jett Williams, Fred Parker Jr. (“Faron Young”) and the members of the film’s musical talent known as the ‘Drifting Cowboys,’ Josh Brady, Wes Langolis, Casey Bond, Michael Rinne.

Tinseltown took over Music City this past weekend, with the glitzy premiere of the highly anticipated Hank Williams biopic, I Saw the Light. Stars of the big-screen adaptation of the book, Hank Williams: The Biography by Colin Escott, George Merritt and William Macewen, walked the red carpet (which, for the record, was actually green), as invited guests filled the twin theaters at Nashville's historic Belcourt theater. British actor Tom Hiddleston turns in a career-defining role as the troubled singer-songwriter, whose influence is seen not only in nearly every country artist who came after him,...

Toronto – We’re not going to beat around the bush here. Despite the worthy efforts of stars Tom Hiddleston and Elizabeth Olsen, the Hank Williams biopic “I Saw The Light” is a shockingly bad movie. It’s such a disappointment we’re not even sure where to begin. Well, perhaps a quick history lesson is in order first. Hank Williams (Tom Hiddleston) was a legendary Country music singer and songwriter who had 11 no. 1 singles on the Billboard Country and Western Charts during a career that lasted only six years. The Alabama native first hit the charts in 1947 and actually had one of his biggest hits, “Your Cheatin’ Heart,” following his untimely death in 1953. He was just 29-years-old. In the decades since his music has influenced icons such as Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash and Keith Richards, among others. Let's continue, shall we? He was married twice, first to Audrey Williams (Elizabeth Olsen...

If his acting career doesn't work out, Tom Hiddleston could definitely make a dent in the music charts if this new clip is anything to go by.
The first look at his upcoming Hank Williams biopic I Saw the Light shows the actor performing the singer's 1947 track 'Move It on Over' - and he's sounding pretty great.
Used to kicking ass in the Avengers series, Hiddleston has transformed into the legendary singer for the film, which will tell the story of his rise to fame through to his fall at the hands of alcoholism.
Fellow Marvel star Elizabeth Olsen appears opposite Hiddleston as the singer's long-suffering wife and duet partner Audrey Sheppard Williams.
David Krumholtz, Bradley Whitford and Maddie Hasson have supporting roles in I Saw the Light.

The film will hit the Toronto International Film Festival tomorrow, and Hiddleston has dropped a new clip on Twitter to tease at what's to come. The scene is 60 blissful seconds of Hiddleston's Williams singing "Move it On Over," and it also introduces Elizabeth Olsen as Audrey Williams. No one can really match Williams's unique twang, but Hiddleston does a pretty damn good job. Tom Hiddleston has been making the rounds to prove he can take on the legendary career of musician Hank Williams in I Saw the Light, and today it was announced he’ll be getting a little help from an Avenger.
Elizabeth Olsen will play Williams’ wife, Audrey Mae, in the film, which is set to release in 2015. Williams’ real wife, Audrey Sheppard, was a manager for the musician before the couple’s divorce.
