Nesta Cooper will lead the cast of the film directed by Kelley Kali, which is currently shooting in Atlanta, as previously announced.

1964/ 1.33:1 / Each Episode 25 min.
Starring Tim Matheson, Don Messick
Music by Hoyt Curtin
Directed by William Hanna, Joe Barbera
Though the heartland was nearing a showdown between the Masters of War and the Age of Aquarius, things were relatively status quo in 1964, Beatles or no Beatles. Dad could still be found daydreaming over the garish macho fantasies of Men’s Action magazine while Junior was in the rec room hypnotized by Jonny Quest – a weekly cartoon show flaunting the same retro thrills found in the old man’s rags but aimed at the sandbox set.
Jonny lasted just one season, from September of 1964 to March of ‘65, but the combination of pulp fiction mayhem with junior league heroics would transfix a generation.

On September 18, 1964, a serious animated adventure series, demonstrating cartoons didn’t have to always be comical such as The Flintstones (still airing then on ABC). Instead, Jonny Quest captured the sense of exploration Americans were longing for thanks to the Mercury astronauts and the rising tide of espionage films, headed by James Bond. However, Jonny was a young boy, making him an ideal feature for the Friday at 7:30 p.m. slot.
While the 26 episodes are all that were produced, the show’s overall quality proved influential to subsequent generations of animators, comic book storytellers, and audiences. It has pretty much remained in syndication for the last forty years. Jonny Quest remained the benchmark for dramatic animated fare for decades, enjoying brief runs as a comic book (notably Comico’s 1980s run).

If you were a young boy in America in 1964, you were probably glued to the television set on Friday evenings to watch the groundbreaking, imaginative, and superbly entertaining action-adventure science fiction animated prime time series, Jonny Quest. Okay, I’m sure some girls liked the show, too (my next-door neighbors did). Given the shortage of female characters on the show, though, Jonny Quest was a program that I would bet appealed mostly to boys.
Jonny Quest is an 11-year-old all-American boy who has an awesome life. He is the son of Dr. Benton Quest, a brilliant scientist who works for the U.S. government and has a laboratory, home, and compound on an island off the coast of Florida. Their bodyguard is “Race” Bannon, an American equivalent of James Bond, sort of, although he also acts as Jonny’s tutor. Hadji, an Indian boy the same age as Jonny,...

Chris McKay ("The Lego Batman Movie") has signed with Warners to direct a live-action adaptation of the 1964 Hanna-Barbera action-adventure cartoon "Jonny Quest", created by Doug Wildey, as the first TV cartoon series to kill characters in every episode:
"...living in the Florida Keys, 'Jonny Quest' is a young boy who lost his mother at an early age. Though unenthusiastic in his schooling, he is intelligent, brave, adventurous, and generally athletic with a proficiency in judo, scuba diving and the handling of firearms. He takes on responsibility willingly, attending to his studies, and treating adults with respect.
"'Dr. Benton C. Quest' is Jonny's father and a scientific genius who works for the Us Government. He is considered to be one of the three top scientists in the world with interests and technical know-how spanning many fields.
"Raising Jonny as a single father, he is conscientious and decent, though willing and able...

Warner Bros. is moving forward with their live-action film adaptation of Johnny Quest! The studio has just hired Chris McKay to direct it. He previously helmed The Lego Batman Movie.
The movie is based on the popular Hanna-Barbera primetime animated series created by Doug Wildey in the mid-1960s.
The story centers on “the adventurous boy hero Jonny Quest who travels with his scientist father, his adopted brother Hadji, and their former secret agent bodyguard, Race Bannon, around the world to solve world-threatening mysteries.”
I loved watching Johnny Quest when I was a kid. I just love those old-school pulp adventure stories, and I think that McKay is a great choice to bring the franchise to life on the big screen.
The Wrap also reports that the studio is looking to cast a major movie star in the role of Race Bannon. Vice President Mike Pence looks a lot like the character,...

Well, technically, it’s not a cartoon, but it is animation– and it’s a great labor of love.
Jonny Quest Opening Titles from Roger D. Evans on Vimeo. Evans writes:
In 1964, Jonny Quest aired to rave reviews as the first, adult action/adventure cartoon in prime time. It had cool jazz music by Hoyt Curtin and terrific, high contrast pen and ink design work by Doug Wildey. As an animator and long time Jq junkie, I had always wanted a set of Jonny Quest action figures but, due to high production costs, the show only lasted one season; not long enough to spawn any kind of serious toys or other merchandising tie-ins. So, almost 50 years later, I made my own. Here is my Valentine to one of the coolest, if not The coolest, cartoons ever to spin up the imagination of a 53 year old man now going on six.

I used to watch Jonny Quest when I was a young kid, I actually appreciate the show more now than I did when I was younger, because it was a more adult oriented cartoon. I think it would make for a pretty cool film today though. Roger D. Evans recently created this awesome recreation of the opening title sequence of the series using custom made toys, stop motion animation and some CGI work. This thing turned out to be pretty awesome, he captured the fantistic pulp art feel that fans loved about the shows.
Here's a note from the creator:

Wikipedia tells me "Jonny Quest" is a 1964 science fiction/adventure animated television series produced by Hanna-Barbera Productions, and created and designed by comic book artist Doug Wildey, about Jonny Quest, a boy who accompanies his father on extraordinary adventures. Hero Complex tells me Zac Efron (High School Musical) will play Jonny Quest in a feature film adaptation for Warner Bros. with Dwayne Johnson circling the project and may possibly play the brawny version of pilot and man-of-action Race Bannon. Geoff Boucher at "Hero Complex" points out the casting may not sit well with fans since Quest was only 11-years-old in the cartoon and Efron is the ripe young age of 21. However, Boucher, a confessed fan of Quest, seems optimistic saying, "I myself think it's a surprising but interesting choice, and I'm one of the people in town who think Efron (like Justin Timberlake) has a big future ahead of him...

After a couple of false launches, DreamWorks is putting a new pilot in the cockpit of its untitled moon project.
Up-and-coming scribe Dan Mazeau has been hired to redraft the action film about lunar colonization that is slated to star Jake Gyllenhaal. Doug Liman, who will direct the film, wrote an original screenplay with John Hamburg ("Along Came Polly"). "Black Hawk Down" author Mark Bowden revamped that script.
Now Mazeau is on board to try to bring it in for a landing with a different take "based on an original story by Liman, Bowden and Simon Kinberg," according to the studio.
Former Paramount co-president of production Alli Shearmur will produce with writer-producer Kinberg and Liman. Dave Bartis is executive producing. Mark Sourian and Jonathan Eirich are guiding the project for DreamWorks.
Kinberg and Liman collaborated on "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" and "Jumper", which roped in a combined $639 million in worldwide revenue. Gyllenhaal recently closed his deal to star in the Disney video game adaptation "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time."
Mazeau, who is repped by the Gersh Agency and Circle of Confusion, last month turned in his latest draft of "Jonny Quest", a live-action adventure based on the animated '60s Hanna-Barbera TV show created by Doug Wildey.
