For a textbook sitcom, Night Court Season 1 Episode 9 is practically Shakespearean in its savagely dramatic irony and role reversals.
Guest star Stephnie Weir chews up the scenery as the surgically precise podcast journalist, Remecca, whose plan to expose the dirty secrets of our good-hearted -- if curmudgeonly narcissistic -- public defender nearly succeeds.
But, as in all good Shakespearean plots, the universe is righted whether by act of God or, as in this case, act of Audio Engineer.
There's some subtle fan service snuck in here with the story of Dan's run for city council, tweaking the memory strings of long-time viewers of the O.G. series.
Back on Night Court (1984) Season 1 Episode 7, Dan lost his race to a dead man while Harry fended off the advances but befriended the enchanting recurring Carla B., played by the lovely Rita Taggart.
If Harry were still alive, Remecca would've spun his encounter with Carla B.

Wendie Malick, Melissa Villaseñor, comedian Pete Holmes and skaters Johnny Weir and Tara Lipinski are among the lengthy list of guest stars who will appear on Season 1 of “Night Court.”
“Night Court” is back in session for a reboot of the comedy series that first aired in 1984 for nine seasons. In this new take on the series, John Larroquette reprises his role as narcissistic prosecutor Dan Fielding, with Melissa Rauch (“The Big Bang Theory”) playing optimistic judge Abby Stone, the daughter of the late Judge Harry Stone (Harry Anderson).

Look who’s reporting for Night Court. Producers of the NBC comedy — a revival of the ‘80s series of the same name — announced a slate of guest stars for the show at NBCUniversal’s presentation at the Television Critics Association winter press tour ahead of the show’s premiere on Tuesday, January 17. Those guest stars are Melissa Villaseñor (Saturday Night Live), Wendie Malick (Hot in Cleveland), Pete Holmes (How We Roll), Faith Ford (Hope & Faith), Kurt Fuller (Supernatural), Stephnie Weir (MADtv), Lyric Lewis (A.P. Bio), and figure skaters, Johnny Weir and Tara Lipinski, according to Variety. So far, only John Larroquette is returning from the original series — he’s coming back to play Dan Fielding again — though producers told reporters at the TCA press tour that they’re open to bringing back Richard Moll and Marsha Warfield to play Nostradamus “Bull” Shannon and Rosalind “Roz” Russell. NBC’s upcoming “Night Court” revival has set a new slate of guest stars including Melissa Villaseñor, Faith Ford, Pete Holmes, Kurt Fuller, Stephanie Weir, Lyric Lewis, Johnny Weir and Tara Lipinski.
The news came during NBCUniversal’s presentation at the Television Critics Association’s winter 2023 press tour, where star and executive producer Melissa Rauch called “Night Court” a “newboot” of the original, which ran on NBC from 1984 to 1992 and starred Harry Anderson as judge Harry T. Stone.
Along with announcing the new guest stars, with character details yet to be announced, producers said during the “Night Court” panel that they would be open to bringing back Richard Moll and Marsha Warfield. Moll and Warfield are the only living cast members from the original series besides John Laroquette, who reprises his role in the revival.
The new “Night Court” follows the late Harry Stone’s daughter, the unapologetically optimistic judge Abby Stone.

"You're starting to believe in magic, aren't you?" Disney has unveiled an official trailer for a new fairytale comedy titled Godmothered, from the director of Bridget Jones's Diary and Bridget Jones's Baby. This holiday season, be careful who you wish for... This magical holiday comedy stars Jillian Bell as Eleanor, a young, inexperienced fairy godmother-in-training. She is an overzealous and unskilled fairy godmother who decides to venture out on her own to prove her worth by tracking down a young girl whose request for help was ignored, in hopes of showing the world that people still need fairy godmothers. But she discovers that the girl is now a 40-year-old single mom working at a TV news station. Isla Fisher also co-stars, joined by Santiago Cabrera, June Squibb, Mary Elizabeth Ellis, Stephnie Weir, Jane Curtin, and Utkarsh Ambudkar. This reminds me of Disney's adorable classic Enchanted, but with a spin on Cinderella's fairy godmother this time.

CBS’ freshman comedy Happy Together, headlined by Damon Wayans Jr., will not be coming back for a second season. The cancellation came within an hour or so of Fox pulling the plug on Lethal Weapon, starring Wayans’ father, Damon Wayans.
The writing was pretty much on the wall when the multi-camera Happy Together did not get a back order in the fall. Odds of a fall freshman series getting a renewal after failing to secure a back order are usually slim.
Happy Together, from writers Tim McAuliffe and Austen Earl, underperformed in the ratings but had a few things going for it. In their breakout TV roles, Damon Wayans Jr. (“Happy Endings”) and Amber Stevens West (“The Carmichael Show”) proved themselves to be perfect sitcom utility players. Both were tasked at times with lending grounding reality to ensemble series that only just managed to keep their balance without spiraling into mania, and both displayed their own amiable willingness to indulge and heighten their respective show’s quirk.
What a shame, then, that two such talented performers are marooned on CBS’s “Happy Together,” a show whose title says it all; unlike even most of CBS’s prime-time comedy slate, it fundamentally lacks a point-of-view or anything that help it break free from the generic—even as its stars struggle against a tide bearing them back to the bygone era where this show’s jokes seem to have originated. Happy Together tells the story of a famous pop star that ends up living with a suburban couple in an effort to live an ordinary life. It may be just a wacky concept for a sitcom, but for executive producer Ben Winston the story hits close to home…very close to home.
During the CBS session at TCA Sunday, Winston was joined on the stage by sitcom stars Felix Mallard, Damon Wayans Jr., and Amber Stevens West as well as executive producers Tim McAuliffe and Austen Earl. Winston shared his story about how One Direction band member Harry Styles lived in the attic of his London home. Styles was supposed to stay for two weeks but then ended up setting up shop at their abode for 18 months. Winston said that although his experience with Styles wasn’t as eventful as many may think, it would provide for a good story for a sitcom.

When Dave Johnson (Max Greenfield) and his family arrive from Michigan, they’re unfazed that their new dream home is located in a community quite different from their small town. However, their opinionated next-door neighbor, Calvin Butler (Cedric the Entertainer), is wary of the newcomers, certain...

With Murphy Brown and Magnum P.I. as two of the six new series on the fall 2018 CBS schedule, it feels like a trip back to the 1980s at the network, which will feature five reboots next season.
“Stability where we are strong, change where we need it,” is how CBS Entertainment president Kelly Kahl described the strategy behind network’s schedule for next season. CBS’ biggest declines this season were on Monday — that’s where the biggest changes are, including shrinking the comedy block from two hours to one.
Here is CBS’ fall 2018-19 schedule, followed by scheduling information on some shows that are not on it, brief analysis, and detailed descriptions of the network’s new series.

It stars Cedric The Entertainer, Josh Lawson, Sheaun McKinney, Tichina Arnold, Dreama Walker, Marcel Spears, Hank Greenspan.

CBS has kicked off its pilot-to-series orders with nods to two multi-camera comedies, Welcome to the Neighborhood, starring Cedric the Entertainer, and Untitled Damon Wayans Jr. project (fka Untitled Austen Earl/Tim McAuliffe), Both sitcoms come from CBS sibling CBS TV Studios. And if CBS is sticking to its playbook of picking up fall shows first, these would be the two new comedies the network would introduce next fall, possibly alongside the straight-to-series Murphy Brown revival.
The untitled Damon Wayans Jr. project is executive produced by The Late Late Show with James Corden Ep Ben Winston and is inspired by a time when he and pop star Harry Styles lived together. While the One Direction alum was not formally attached in the pilot stage, he will now serve as an executive producer on the series, which is not based on real life experiences or characters.

You ruined everything, you stupid...
Nope. I don’t think Rebecca, nor the winds, ruined anything.
When the “winds of Diablo” blew their way through West Covina on Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Season 2 Episode 11, everyone re-evaluated their choices.
And I think everyone ended up right where they belong.
Things got a little weird during an hour that shifted the direction of the series, so let’s start talking about it!

A review of tonight's Veep coming up just as soon as I quote the late Lionel Richie... There's a famous moment at the end of the first season of Cheers that half the TV business has been chasing in the 30-plus years since it first aired. It's the moment where the line gets obliterated between Sam Malone and Diane Chambers' utter disdain for one another and their animal attraction, and one moment they're threatening physical violence, and the next they are passionately making out. If you're the kind of person who reads this blog, odds are you've seen at least the most iconic part of the scene before, but here it is, anyway: That show, and that moment, bottled the idea of Unresolved Sexual Tension, which later series would try variations on. Sometimes, the will-they-or-won't-they couple would have mutual loathing for each other like Sam and Diane (David and Maddie...
