Two weeks after Conan O’Brien’s triumphant return to his former home at 30 Rock, another homecoming of sorts is set to take place on his old show.
Drummer Jay Weinberg, who currently serves as drummer for crossover thrash band Suicidal Tendencies, will sit in with Late Night with Seth Meyers’ 8G Band next month.
Under the musical direction of Fred Armisen, The 8G Band frequently invites artists to sub in for Armisen on drums. Other recent guest drummers have included Fall Out Boy’s Andrew Hurley, No Doubt’s Adrian Young, and Mudhoney’s Dan Peters.
Weinberg’s presence on Late Night creates something of a full-circle moment for the franchise. His father, Max Weinberg, was the drummer and bandleader for O’Brien’s house band.

How many drummers does it take to make a late-night show? Well over 300 if you’re Late Night with Seth Meyers.
Drummers have been a fixture in late-night for years – think of Max Weinberg, the longtime drummer for Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band who became the bandleader for Conan O’Brien and Ed Shaughnessy on The Tonight Show with Jonny Carson – but Meyers’ NBC show has paved a new path for stick wizards.
Eric Leiderman, a producer on the show, has been overseeing a rotating group of drummers that since the show began – ten years ago on Saturday.
This has included the likes of Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Chad Smith, Slayer’s Dave Lombardo, Guns N’ Roses’ Matt Sorum, Soundgarden and Pearl Jam’s Matt Cameron, Allison Miller and Mudhoney’s Dan Peters.
As the show celebrates this anniversary, Leiderman tells Deadline how this under-the-radar scheme came about and why...

Drummer Jay Weinberg revealed on Sunday (November 19th) that he underwent surgery on both his hip and femur this past Tuesday (November 14th). The stickman insisted that the medical procedures were long planned, and not related to his firing from Slipknot earlier this month.
Weinberg shared a photo of himself on crutches via Instagram, explaining that he had scheduled the surgery knowing that he had an extensive break in his touring schedule, even had he remained with Slipknot. The band’s next show is scheduled for April at Las Vegas’ Sick New World festival.
His full post reads as follows:
“This Tuesday, after three years of careful planning, I underwent an outpatient procedure to repair the torn labrum of my left hip and shave down a misshapen part of my femur — a condition that never impacted my drumming in any way, but I’ve wanted to take care of during...

Jay Weinberg received a tremendous amount of support from fellow musicians upon being let go from Slipknot, but not from his former Against Me! bandmate Laura Jane Grace. The singer-guitarist mocked the drummer’s ouster from the masked metal band, even calling him a “little bitch boy.”
The cantankerous relationship between Grace and Weinberg dates back to the drummer’s stint in Against Me! and eventual departure from the punk band. Weinberg was a member of Against Me! from 2010 to 2012, and when he joined Slipknot in 2014, Grace tweeted, “Dear Slipknot, good luck with that. #shitbag.”
In another series of tweets at that time, Grace wrote, “We once had a drummer who sprained his ankle and wanted our tour manager to call 911 and have an ambulance come for him #entitlement. When our tour manager said no the drummers Daddy called him and scolded him saying the drummer was a ‘star’ and...

Slipknot split with drummer Jay Weinberg, announcing last weekend that they had decided “to part ways” with the percussionist. On Saturday, Weinberg revealed that he had not anticipated their decision to let him go.

A week after he was let go by Slipknot, drummer Jay Weinberg has broken his silence via an emotional social media post. The musician says he was “heartbroken and blindsided” by the band’s decision to fire him.
Last Sunday (November 5th), Slipknot announced, “We would like to thank Jay Weinberg for his dedication and passion over the past ten years. No one can ever replace Joey Jordison’s original sound, style or energy, but Jay honored Joey’s parts and contributed to the last three albums and we, the band, and the fans appreciate it. But as ever, Slipknot is intent on evolving. The band has decided to make a creative decision, and to part ways with Jay. We wish Jay all the best and are very excited for what the future holds.”
On Saturday (November 11th), Jay issued his own statement, writing the following via his Instagram page:...

After a two-hour-plus main set that slammed home themes of mortality and impermanence and the way of all flesh, Bruce Springsteen reemerged on Madison Square Garden’s stage Saturday night, April 1, for his usual lengthy encore, and announced “something special for New York City.” He pointed over at Soozie Tyrell, who began a dead-on recreation of one of rock’s few canonical violin melodies, over piano from all-time-great arpeggio purveyor Roy Bittan. They eased the E Street Band into the 11-minute-long, 48-year-old mini-rock-opera “Jungleland,” played and sung with enough muscle...

Ringo Starr is still alive and well, thank you very much. The drummer said Paul McCartney likes to think he’s the only Bealte left, but Macca’s opinion doesn’t change the fact that the drummer and his songs live on. And Ringo’s influence on Paul might be as profound as Macca’s impact on pop music.

Seven minutes before Bruce Springsteen is scheduled to call Rolling Stone to talk about his new R&b covers album, Only the Strong Survive, a number I’ve never seen before from Point Pleasant Beach, New Jersey pops up on my cellphone. This is usually the point where a manager or publicist conferences in the interview subject, but there’s just one person on the other end of the line. “Hey,” says a gruff, familiar voice. “It’s Bruce.”

Over the past five decades, Bruce Springsteen and his E Street Band have set the bar for live rock’n’roll shows. Their epic performances regularly steam past the three-hour mark, with their longest ever set, a 2012 gig in Helsinki, Finland, clocking in at a staggering four hours and six minutes. Earlier this month, Sir Paul McCartney was asked why his own solo shows have grown ever longer in recent years. “I blame Bruce Springsteen,” the former Beatle told the Fly on the Wall podcast. “I know him and I said to him, ‘It’s your fault, man’… the rest of us look measly if we do an hour.”
Springsteen’s stellar live reputation doesn’t just come from quantity, of course, but sheer crowd-pleasing quality. In a 2011 poll, Rolling Stone readers voted Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band the greatest live act of all time. To witness Springsteen...

Nothing is confirmed at the moment, but it seems quite likely that Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band are planning to tour Europe next year. The rumor mill went into overdrive during Thanksgiving week that dates were about to be announced, and fans even spotted an advertisement at a German bus stop for a June 10, 2022 show at Deutsche Bank Park in Frankfurt, Germany. But this all happened right as news of the Omicron variant surfaced, which seems to have delayed the announcement.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band drummer Max Weinberg turns 70 today.

The “Delray Beach business” he’s referencing is his recent appointment to the Delray Beach Planning and Zoning Board in Florida, where he has a vacation house.

One of the things that always impressed me about Bruce Springsteen is the melodic possibilities he can find in two-chord vamps. He doesn’t do it all the time, that would prove to be monotonous all night, but when he does it is a consistent affirmation of the power of rock and roll. It’s like he took every early inspiration which weaned him and plays their feel as if it were an instrument. Not the melodies, but what the melodies convey. The “stone and the gravel” in Springsteen’s voice may not be a suitable vehicle for the smooth vibratos of Drifters’ hits, but he never misses a note or what that note wants you to feel.
The new record is called Letter to You, and Springsteen’s weathered-through-rain-heat-and-gloom-of-night delivery consistently implies a range of additional tonic possibilities. And he’s got the band to back it up. His...

Bruce Springsteen might never get old, but he sure as hell isn’t getting any younger. Seventy-one this past September and fresh off a sublime Broadway run that saw him burnish his own myth by stepping out of its shadow, the Boss still looks like he’s 45, reflects on the past like he’s 90, and plays the guitar like he’s immortal. And yet time is catching up with him all the same, if only through his friends. E Street Band co-founder Danny Federici died in 2008, followed by saxophonist Clarence Clemons in 2011; when former Castiles legend George Theiss succumbed to lung cancer in 2018, Springsteen became the last surviving member of his first band.

The atmospheric, black-and-white documentary, directed by Thom Zimny, shows the band learning, arranging, and recording the songs on the album and captures the members’ decades-long friendships — including a now-poignant toast to a tour that’s nowhere in sight.

Columbia Records will release Bruce Springsteen’s new album Letter to You on Oct. 23, according to Rolling Stone. The 12-track album is the first to feature The E Street Band since High Hopes in 2014. As an introductory salutation to his 20th studio LP, Springsteen released the title-track lead single “Letter to You.”
“I love the emotional nature of ‘Letter to You,’” Springsteen said in a statement, via Rolling Stone. “And I love the sound of the E Street Band playing completely live in the studio, in a way we’ve never done before, and with no overdubs. We made the album in only five days, and it turned out to be one of the greatest recording experiences I’ve ever had.”
This is the first time Springsteen has performed with the E Street Band since The River 2016 tour. The music video shows the band working in Springteen’s home studio in New Jersey.

Refresh for updates Comic and actor Jerry Stiller was remembered today by Hollywood and New York colleagues and friends for both his comedic brilliance and generosity.
Earlier today, son Ben Stiller tweeted that his father had died at age 92 of natural causes.
“I had the privilege of working with Jerry Stiller and his wife Ann Meara many times on All My Children,” said Kelly Ripa on today’s Live with Kelly and Ryan. “He was the kindest, loveliest person. “Asbury Park: Riot, Redemption, Rock n’ Roll,” a new documentary exploring the roots of the New Jersey sound, is hitting theaters worldwide for an engagement on May 22 and 29.
The film chronicles the town’s founding, its Jersey Shore heyday and dark periods like the race riots of the 1960s. Helping to dig deep into Asbury Park’s history are local luminaries Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Van Zandt (aka Little Steven) and Southside Johnny Lyon. The theater run was facilitated through a partnership with Jersey Mike’s Subs and Halo X Media. The two companies are teaming up to donate a portion of the profits to promoting and creating music education programs for children, according to a release.
“Jersey Mike’s is also an iconic part of the Jersey Shore and a great supporter of the community,” said the film’s Director Tom Jones. “Their heartfelt desire to make a difference makes...

The Academy Awards aren’t known for their stellar music performances, though there have been some very notable exceptions over the years. Isaac Hayes delivered a career-defining “Theme From Shaft” performance at the 1972 ceremony, Björk rocked “I’ve Seen It All” in her swan dress in 2001, Adele crushed “Skyfall” in 2013 and Mariah Carey staged a diva-off with Whitey Houston in 1999 for The Prince of Egypt’s “When You Believe.” And just this past week, Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper revived “Shallow” from A Star Is Born and stole the show.
