All That Matters (Germany)
What happened last week?
Joscha and Kai spend the night together, but it was cut short because Joscha’s team showed up at he and Raquel’s apartment. Luckily, Kai was able to sneak out without being spotted, but the close call made Joscha realize he can’t see Kai again…
It’s nice to see two gay men who meet and don’t spend months with grade school courtship rituals and chaste hand holding before getting down to business. I appreciate that unlike so many other TV gays (even ones in long term relationships!) Joscha and Kai don’t seem to have taken a vow of chastity.

Shortland Street (New Zealand)
This is proof that I can’t be everywhere. I had no idea that New Zealand nighttime soap Shortland Street had a gay couple on the show. I’m not sure on all the details of the storyline, but it seems that Seth came on as part of a hostile hopital takeover. There’s been lots of drama and political maneuvering because of it. Seth's business competitor Sarah knows that he’s gay, and it looks like she's about to out him.
The biggest question I have is: what year is this? I mean, it’s 2013. It’s seems so dated to have Seth staying in the closet and hiding his boyfriend to protect his career. I realize that this does still happen, but Seth is not a professional athlete, a big film star, a politician or anything high-profile like that, so...

Another year, another Hot 100! This marks the sixth time we've asked our readers to rank the male celebrities they think are "hot." It's a big deal being on our Hot 100 list, an exclusive club so to speak. Increasingly in recent years, the men who grace our list take notice and appreciate the fans and supporters who voted for them.
Now that the results have been announced, we've heard both via Twitter and also directly from many of our Hot 100 men. I'm sure we'll hear from others over the next couple weeks, but thought I'd round up and share with you the many gracious responses so far.
But before we get to that, I've got some big news. On July 16th at the W Hotel in Hollywood our Hot 100 is making the leap to the physical world! Yes, it's our First Annual Hot 100 Party!
This year, in partnership with sister site AfterEllen.

Forbidden Love
I think it’s time to put Christian and Olli to rest. Let them get a divorce and be apart, at least for awhile. The characters have come to the point where they need to move in separate orbits, meet new people, perhaps have a new romance or two. Perhaps at some point down the line they can rekindle their relationship. They have been fighting about the same thing for months and the back and forth has gotten boring. Perhaps looking at why their marriage fell apart in less than a year might be a good idea.
If the show tries to force them back together anytime in the near future, it would not only be unbelievable, but would seem like the writers just threw them back together for lack of anything else to do with the couple. So much of this story has been about lazy,...

Like many businesses, the end of the year gets pretty hectic around here as we balance the books, hide the bodies, and fight over the freebies sent by the networks. (I'm still mad I didn't get the CSI "Do it Yourself Autopsy Kit!")
Not only do we have the Visibility Awards to get all shiny and polished to hand out to this year's winners on Monday, we also had to write up articles looking back at the year in TV, Movies, Music, Coming Out and so forth. All of that is on top of our usual recaps, articles and posts. And then there are the usual unexpected things to cover like John Cameron Mitchell's people calling us at the last minute to attend a screening of Mitchell's new movie Rabbit Hole starring Nicole Kidman and Aaron Eckhart. If you haven't gotten around to watching the True Blood finale (like me), it's still safe to read this interview with the out Denis O'Hare. Most telling is that he doesn't see his character as a villain: In my mind, he’s not the villain. He’s the hero. I play him like a hero. He has his agenda, and his agenda is correct. He has people he loves and he has desires and needs. If you look at it from his point of view — if Eric, Sookie, and Bill are the villains — they do terrible things to him. They double-cross him, they lie to him, they use him. They kill his lover of 700 years. They take from him, then spurn his offerings.

Christian (ThoreSchölermann) and Olli (Jo Weil) had no trouble vanquishing a the competition this week – all thanks to that charming proposal scene last week where Olli popped the question.
We guess it's true what they say: "Marriage matters" because at 72% of the total vote, their margin of victory might just be a record for the Gay of the Week competition.
No doubt Anthony Langford will have more information about Christian & Olli's upcoming nuptials in tomorrow's Gays of our Lives column. In the meantime, fans can check out preview photos of the ceremony here.

This week Battle of the Network Gays looked to Europe and pitted gay characters from four popular soap operas (two British / two German) against one another.
The Dynamic Duo from Dusseldorf, Christian & Olli took the crown, but they got a real run for their deutschmark from All That Matters' Roman, Deniz and Marc.
Perhaps our recent two-part interview (1, 2) with actors Jo Weil and Thore Schölermaan might have had something to do with it. Results below.
Christian & Olli win this round.

This week it's the Battle of the Network Gays overseas edition! With American TV on a bit of a hiatus we happily turn our attention to foreign programming. In particular, European gay soap characters. Thanks to our own Anthony Langford and Gays of Our Lives, readers can keep up with all the action on Emmerdale, Shameless, Forbidden Love, All That Matters and other shows - so now it's time to find out which popular characters/couples are nearest and dearest to your heart!
Emmerdale's' Aaron Livesy
Why? Actor Danny Miller has won rave reviews for playing this troubled (and often violent) gay teen. He won Gay of the week back in April for this gut-wrenching scene. He's currently pining for Jackson (the guy he almost went to prison for gay-bashing).
Shameless' Mickey Maguire
Why? You want to both laugh at and cry for the comically inept yet painfully lonely Mickey.

The winner of the 2010 AfterElton.com Hot 100 is …Ramin Setoodeh from Newsweek!
Just kidding. Truthfully, we can’t imagine anything less appealing than the attitudes expressed by this out gay journalist who recently argued, ridiculously, that gay actors can’t play straight roles.
So who did come out on top? If you’re the kind of person who opens your Christmas presents early, go here to find the start of the list.
The three of you left might be interested to know that the most noteworthy thing about this year’s list is that the top seven positions are occupied by out gay men, five of whom are actors; last year, only the top three were out gay men, and only four of the top ten were gay.
Of the entire list, 26 were out gay or bisexual men — up from 20 last year. And for those who really like statistics, our...

Last week we launched voting in our 4th Annual Hot 100 poll which lets the gay and bisexual male readers of AfterElton.com declare who they think the hottest men in the world are. Just as in year's past, we've asked some past Hot 100 honorees and other AfterElton faves to tell us who they think the hottest men on the planet are and one or two of the reasons for their choices.
We've already featured the picks of John Amaechi, Cheyenne Jackson, Brad "Cheeks" Bell, Nick Adams, and Nick Rodriguez. Up today is the man who put the "ish" in Kish! It's Ae favorite and former star of "that show which will not be named" (until they beg him to come back), Scott Evans. Here are Scott's top ten eleven hotties, plus some honorable mentions.
Btw, a date with Scott will be auctioned off Tuesday night, with proceeds going to the Big Apple Dodgeball League.

Plus, the Johnny Cash project, Alex O'Loughlin's body, Hedwig to Broadway, crushing Rick Malambri, and meet Death Bear.
While promoting that awful looking JLo movie The Backup Plan, Alex O’Loughlin mentioned that the stunts on the Hawaii Five-o pilot were brutal, and there was no way he could take his shirt off for any beach scenes due to the bruising. There goes my entire interest in the show.
Kaley Cuoco, Sheldon’s foil in The Big Bang Theory, has landed her first feature film, I Hop. She’ll play with James Marsden, a slacker who injures the (CGI) son of the Easter Bunny (Russell Brand) and has to take him in. That sounds just awful. I mean really, really awful.
Telescopic Text is a brilliant concept. Just click the words and watch the story grow.
There’s a rumor that Hedwig and the Angry Inch is headed to Broadway,...

We asked you which gay or bisexual TV characters you think are the best, and you told us – with tens of thousands of votes cast.
Now we have the results.
But first, a few interesting statistics.
We have quite a few familiar faces – characters who made our last poll of the best gay and bisexual characters two and a half years ago – and a few missing ones, namely Vince D’Angelo (from Will & Grace), George Huang (from Law & Order: Svu), and Waylon Smithers (from The Simpsons), all of whom didn’t even make the top 50 this time around.
Meanwhile, we also have many new faces – from shows that have debuted since our last poll.
Every single character except two comes from a show that ran in the 00s (although some shows, like Will & Grace, did debut in the late 90s). The exceptions? Jodie Dallas, played by Billy Crystal, on Soap...

Welcome to another edition of Gays of Our Lives. This week in Gool Theater, we’ve got some very good clips from As the World Turns. And yet, the show still managed to annoy me. Am I just picky? Thankfully, it’s in a good way.

Plus, Ravi comes to the defense of his sisters on Hollyoaks, Ian is trapped in a dicey situation on Shameless (U.S.), the kids from Glee make it to Sectionals in the final episode until – gasp!

Last year soap operas brought us a number of gay romances, but none captured audiences’ attention quite like Forbidden Love’s Christian (Thore Schölermann) and Olli (Jo Weil), which found fans worldwide and left viewers wanting to know more about the actors who play the roles. This week we correspond by email with Jo Weil for his thoughts on Christian and Olli’s relationship, the duos popularity, the future of the couple and more.
AfterElton.com: How do you feel about the way Christian and Olli’s story has been told?
Jw: I’m very happy that I’m part of this wonderful love story. When I first heard [about it], I never imagined that Ollian/Chrolli would be accepted by so many of our fans. I’m very proud of that. I have received so many wonderful letters and e-mails from fans that I’m now aware of this fictitious couple...
