Himalaya Studios, the team behind "King's Quest" remake is developing a class-based adventure game/RPG hybrid thing.
It sounds kind of cool, actually.
The recently-launched Kickstarter page for "Mage's Initiation" from Himalaya, who keeps plugging away at adventure games like they never went away, describes a title that in broadest strokes sounds like it would have been at home in Sierra's early catalog. But when it gets to the point where the developer starts talking about choosing your class and an "open field battle system," it sounds like they're messing with the formula in some interesting ways.
Players will be able to choose from one of four playable classes in the adventure, which has a pretty boilerplate storyline (a 16-year old must brave medieval menaces to become a magic boss, save the kingdom):
You assume the role of D'arc, a sixteen-year-old Initiate who must complete a trio of tasks set by his Mage Masters.

Journalists from Fairfax Media titles The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, The Australian Financial Review, The Sun-Herald, The Newcastle Herald and the Illawarra Mercury have gone on strike in response to the relocation of regional newspaper production to New Zealand.
According to journalists’ union the Media, Entertainment and Arts Alliance, the majority of editorial staff walked out at around 5pm, and plan to remain away until Friday morning. A “skeleton staff” is battling to get tomorrow’s newspapers out, while the company’s websites are mainly being updated via Aap agency copy tonight.
Fairfax said in a statement that the company will continue to publish as usual, and was “disappointed” that its journalists have taken action. A Fairfax spokesman would not comment on how many journalists have gone on strike, nor how the newspapers would be published without journalists.

In what is shaping up to be one of the worst weeks on record for journalism job losses in Australia, Fairfax Media has moved to offshore production of several of its regional titles from Australia to New Zealand.
The move – labelled “unprecedented” by journalists’ union the Media, Entertainment & Arts Alliance – sees Fairfax Regional Media shifting around 60 jobs across the Tasman.
The announcement comes days before an expected shakeup at News Limited which could see hundreds of jobs lost.
Fairfax titles targeted for the change are the Illawarra Mercury, the Newcastle Herald, the Lake Times, Kiama Independent, Newcastle Star, Myall Coast Nota, Port Stephens Examiner and Lakes Mail.
The production roles will instead be carried out by Fairfax Editorial Services. The move comes a year after Fairfax outsourced production jobs on the Sydney Morning Herald and The Age to Aap’s Pagemasters.

The Labor government’s promise to champion freedom of the press in Australia seems to have “slipped away”, the boss of the country’s journalists’ union has warned.
Writing in the Media Alliance’s annual Press Freedom report, federal secretary Chris Warren said that Australia had slipped down global press freedom rankings, in part because of restrictions on how journalists’ access to immigration detention centres and also because of the recommendations of the government-commissioned Independent Media Inquiry which wants a new news media regulator.
After highlighting restrictions on freedom of information and protection of whistleblowers,Warren wrote: “The 2007 election brought to power a Labor government which included in its platform a promise to address these restrictions on the freedom of the press in this country.
