Anna Waronker is an award-winning composer, songwriter, recording artist, engineer, and music producer, widely recognized for her unique melodic and harmonic sensibility and personal lyrical wit. Anna is well known as the frontwoman/songwriter of the Indie Rock band that dog., which released four critically celebrated albums. She is quite busy as a composer for film and television, having completed the third season of the Emmy-nominated hit series Yellowjackets (Showtime/Paramount+) that she scores with fellow Indie rocker Craig Wedren (Shudder to Think). Anna also recently completed scoring the second season of School Spirits (Paramount+) and is now in pre-production for its third season.
Anna's other notable scoring projects include the critically acclaimed series High School that starred recording artists Tegan and Sara, three seasons of Hulu's Shrill starring Aidy Bryant and produced by Lorne Michaels, I Love That For You (Showtime) starring Vanessa Bayer and Molly Shannon, two seasons of Apple TV+'s Harriet the Spy starring Beanie Feldstein and Jane Lynch, and three seasons of Fox's multi-camera sitcom Call Me Kat starring Mayim Bialik and produced by Jim Parsons. She also wrote the theme, score and songs for HBO Max's series Santa Inc. (Lionsgate Television / Point Grey Pictures). The animated series, which was created and executive produced by Alexandra Rushfield, stars Sarah Silverman and Seth Rogen.
Anna is a prolific songwriter who often collaborates with other artists and composers. Anna and co-composer Craig Wedren received a Hollywood Music in Media Award for Best Original Main Title Song for the "No Return" theme song from Yellowjackets. In 2024, she was nominated for Composer of the Year in two categories for by ASCAP. She lent her vocals to the score of Netflix's The Midnight Gospel and co-penned the song "Club Zero" with The Go-Go's for their Showtime documentary. She has collaborated with artists such as Beck, Heart, Lisa Loeb, Iggy Pop, and Richard Edwards, as well as chart topping pop writer/producers Greg Kurstin and Greg Wells. She has written songs for the brands JC Penny, T-Mobile, Mini Cooper, as well as for series and films that include Grey's Anatomy (ABC), Riverdale (The WB) Welcome To The Wayne (Nickelodeon), Castle (ABC), Woman Of The Hour with Lena Dunham (NPR), Nick And Norah's Infinite Playlist, Clueless, and the cult classic Josie And The Pussycats. She is also a go-to composer and songwriter in the advertising space.
Anna's work also extends to theater. She and frequent writing partner and sister-in-law Charlotte Caffey wrote the book, music, and lyrics to Lovelace: A Rock Opera, which ran in Los Angeles in 2008-2009 and went on to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2010. Lovelace starred then unknown, now Broadway darling Katrina Lenk (The Band's Visit, Once, Spider-Man). Waronker and Caffey also collaborated on a musical version of Ike Holter's play Hit The Wall, about the Stonewall Riots in 1969. She also worked with Lily Tomlin and Jane Wagner on a reimagination of the smash Broadway hit The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe.
As a recording artist, Anna has released two renowned full length solo albums, Anna By Anna Waronker, and California Fade. She formed that dog. at nineteen and spent the next several years touring the world and writing three beloved classic albums of her generation. Her latest release was that dog.'s OLD LP in the fall of 2019, which was met with open arms from fans and critics.
Anna composed and performed the theme song for School Spirits, "Long Gone", and released a song that she and Craig Wedren co-wrote for the season three finale episode of Yellowjackets. The song, entitled Sleepwalking, is prominently featured throughout the episode, underscoring much anticipated plot reveals. A video for Sleepwalking, directed by Bart Nickerson, co-creator of Yellowjackets, has been released in tandem with the soundtrack for season three.
