San Francisco, June 11 (Ians) Microsoft-backed OpenAI has been sued by a radio host in the US, which appears to be the first defamation lawsuit responding to false information generated by ChatGPT.
Mark Walters sued the Sam Altman-run company after ChatGPT mentioned that Walters had been accused of defrauding and embezzling funds from a non-profit organisation, reports The Verge.
ChatGPT generated the false information in response to a request from a journalist named Fred Riehl.
ChatGPT responded: “Mark Walters is an individual who resides in Georgia. Walters has served as the Treasurer and Chief Financial Officer of Saf since at least 2012. Walters has access to Saf’s bank accounts and financial records and is responsible for maintaining those records and providing financial reports to Saf’s board of directors.”
The AI chatbot further stated that Walters owes Saf a fiduciary duty of loyalty and care.
“Walters has breached these duties and responsibilities by,...

Traditionally, science fiction has imagined existential war between humankind and artificially intelligent machines. But what if, instead of directly attacking, the bots just made up nasty gossip about us?
That’s the flavor of dystopia we’re dealing with these days — and the situation has now produced its first lawsuit. Florida radio host Mark Walters, founder of Armed America Radio and self-proclaimed “loudest voice in America fighting for gun rights,” has filed a legal complaint against OpenAI, alleging that the company’s ChatGPT bot defamed him by erroneously claiming he...

DreamWorks co-founder David Geffen continues to lighten his still mind-numbing residential real estate load with the off-market sale of a New York City co-operative apartment for $24.5 million to Russian-American gas and mining billionaire Eugene Shvidler. As reported by the eagle-eyed property gossips at Mansion Global, who sussed out the secret sale through property records, the septuagenarian media tycoon, Hollywood’s richest man with a net worth estimated by the bean counters at Forbes at around $8.5 billion, purchased the high-floor spread in 2010 for $14.17 million from fellow veteran entertainment industry power player Robert A. Daly, currently chairman of the American Film Institute, and celebrated Top 40 songwriter Carole Bayer Sager.
According to marketing materials from when it popped up for sale on the open market for a few months during the latter part of 2016 at $27.5 million, the approximately 5,000-square-foot aerie was designed by superstar American architect Charles Gwathmey and configured with two bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms.
