Los Angeles is less a city and more like a sprawling suburb. Outside of downtown and the wretched stretch of hell known as Hollywood Boulevard, the city is essentially a collection of smaller neighborhood villages, all of which are simultaneously unique while remaining distinctly L.A. But there's something different about South Pasadena. Situated just six miles from downtown, this city within the bounds of Los Angeles County feels like a quintessential middle American small town, complete with a humble main street, local library, and tree-lined streets that contain some of the most picturesque suburban homes you're ever likely to see — and chances are you have seen them. Even the most casual movie fan will, at one time, have seen South Pasadena on-screen, whether they realize it or not.
The city is a go-to destination for productions looking for that small-town feel. South Pasadena has played host to some truly...

"The Office" starts by depicting Michael Scott as a bumbling and offensive regional manager. From there, he quickly shifts to a more pathetic character who can't get out of his own way when it comes to romance. It isn't until the fading moments of season 4 that Michael first starts to find true, transformative love in the arms of an unsuspecting Hr rep from the Dunder Mifflin Nashua branch: Holly Flax.
The surprising thing is that Holly was actually never supposed to become a major part of Michael's love life. Instead, she was supposed to be more of a one-hit wonder. On the Office Ladies podcast (which has become the source for all behind-the-scenes stories for the show), Pam and Angela actors Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey interviewed Holly actress Amy Ryan for the episode Business Ethics with Amy Ryan.

With the festive season around the corner, what better time to dig out the Christmas episodes of The Office? Unfortunately, there isn't one for every season, with only seven such episodes. Season one was quite short at just six episodes, whilst season four ended earlier because of the 2008 Writers’ Strike. Nevertheless, there's plenty to dig into.
As well as keeping in the spirit of December joy, the Christmas episodes are often crucial to the ongoing plots. Whether that's with Pam and Jim's relationship, or bringing Holly and Michael back on the scene with the possibility of them getting back together, each episode is there for a reason, alongside getting viewers in the mood for Christmas. Of course, watching them in chronological order will make sense in terms of plot, but the following list lays the episodes out in order of what's most festive, starting with the least.

With decades-long acting experience under his belt and boasting a fair share of film and television projects, Steve Carell is often known for his impeccable comedic timing, both on and off-screen. But believe it or not, even the legendary actor has had his awkward moments, particularly during auditions.

During an interview, Steve Carell thus recalled one of his most cringeworthy and hilarious audition experiences that involved—dry French fries. Well, while his embarrassing story involved choking on those fries, the hilarious moment seemingly inspired one of his most career-changing performances in The Office.

Has there ever been a worse idea than David Wallace’s “Suck It” shop-vac for kids? Not according to the United States Military, who paid enough lettuce for the idea to put the disgraced Dunder Mifflin CFO back on the map. By the end of US version of The Office, Wallace was head of his old company once again and thriving. Makes you wonder what would have been had Michael Scott actually joined his former boss for “Suck It” in the season 6 episode “Sabre” and made his millions. For one thing, “Scott’s Tots” would have a much happier ending.
You can’t completely blame Michael for being so shortsighted, though. As David describes it while hanging out with Michael in the hot tub, “Suck It” sounds like a desperate unemployed man’s fever dream of a second coming.
“You know how kids leave their toys everywhere?” David explains in the episode.

When The Office was released in 2005, it did not create waves. In fact, it was expected to be canceled, but NBC took a leap of faith in Greg Daniels' and Steve Carrell's potential. This resulted in the creation of one of the greatest sitcoms of all time, which continues to be a staple for audiences worldwide.
Even today, the appeal of The Office does not seem to fade. The timelessness, sharp writing, and the brilliant characters in the workplace comedy have carved a special place in the hearts of diehard fans as well as casual watchers. Making the decision to rewatch The Office is still a great idea.

Knowing how much Michael and Holly loved each other on The Office, it was shocking when they broke up in season 5. Throughout the series, Michael dedicated his life to his colleagues at Dunder Mifflin because he didn't have the lively romantic life he had hoped for. A longing romantic, Michael was always searching for someone he could spend his life with outside of the office; someone who wasn't bothered by his presence and actually wanted to spend time with him. His luck changed when Holly Flax joined the Scranton branch.
In season 4, episode 18, "Goodbye, Toby," Holly joined Dunder Mifflin as Toby's replacement. Michael hated Toby on The Office and assumed he'd hate his replacement as well. As it turned out, he fell for Holly as he had never fallen for anyone - and luckily for him, she reciprocated those feelings. After slowly becoming close friends, the two started their relationship.

Given he spent 15 years working at Dunder Mifflin, it came as a great shock when Michael Scott quit the company in season 5 of The Office. He loved his job so much that he considered his employees his family and tried doing things as a unit outside of work. As he perfectly summarized in season 2, episode 6, “The Fight,” he wanted them to "be afraid of how much they love me”. While Michael’s colleagues didn’t initially respect him the way he hoped, they did learn to care for him the longer they got to know him.
It was hard to imagine The Office's future when a main actor left the show early — especially Michael Scott. However, in season 5, he reached his limit with the company. The only problem was that he didn't plan for his life after Dunder Mifflin. Michael had no career prospects, outside skills, and he didn't have enough money to not work.

Michael and Holly’s relationship timeline on The Office was complex because of where they were jointly employed and the circumstances around dating someone in the workplace. There were multiple in-office relationships at Dunder Mifflin Scranton, but for whatever reason, the CEO, David Wallace, found it to be a problem for the regional manager to date the temporary human resources transfer. This bump in the road was a huge turning point in not just Michael’s relationship with Holly but his working relationship with David.
Aside from becoming best friends with his employees, Michael’s dream was to be a husband and father. He thought he found love with his former boss, Jan Levinson, but that relationship turned out to be toxic, and he thought he found love again with Donna, but she turned out to be married. Every woman Michael dated before Holly didn't mean a thing to him...

Letters of Note has unearthed (via Flickr) a cover letter both funny and deadly serious David Foster Wallace faxed to Harper's magazine demanding no edits on an essay he wrote on Kafka. His exact words, footnoted of course: "I will find a way to harm you or cause you suffering if you fuck with the mechanics of the piece." Presumably the charming strong-arm worked better here than it might have at the New Yorker. Transcript below:
Attempted Fax Cover Sheet

This is pretty much the best I can do, I think. I feel shitty sticking a lot of what you wanted in Fn’s, but I didn’t see any work to work it into the main text w/o having to rewrite whole ¶s and throw the thing’s Styrofoamish weight off.
The deal is this. You’re welcome to this for Readings if you wish.

Everybody forget about the nation's crumbling economy, the fact that "Hop" and "Alvin and the Chipmunks" director Tim Hill is bringing the beloved robot comedy "Short Circuit" back to life is cause for an outcry! Clearly we jest, but Deadline is reporting that producers Ryan Heppe and John Hyde have approved the family-friendly director as their choice to helm this proposed "reboot" through the house of the Weinsteins' production shingle Dimension. Apparently the original film's producer David Wallace is also along for the ride. That film followed "The Breakfast Club" alumnus Ally Sheedy as she assisted the self-aware military experiment…...

We know when Michael Scott will exit The Office.
Before we get to that scoop, however, we can deliver the following news regarding what Michael will be up to while still the branch manager: on February 17, he'll host a screening of Threat Level Midnight.
Coming to town for the movie whose screenplay Michael's co-workers discovered on season two will be Jan, Karen, Roy and David Wallace, all of whom will play a role in the action/thriller. We're both confused and excited.
As for details on Steve Carell's departure from the series, Alan Sepinwall spoke to producer Paul Lieberstein at The Television Critic's Association press tour and has revealed the following:
Michael will say goodbye with four episodes remaining this season. The final few weeks will be dedicated to finding his replacement. Internal candidates have been narrowed down to Andy, Dwight and Darryl. Whether the job is filled by...
