Nightcrawler actor Alan Cumming shares an update on his action scenes alongside his fellow X-Men actors in Avengers: Doomsday. As confirmed by Avengers: Doomsday's cast announcement, several Marvel actors will reprise their roles from Fox's original X-Men trilogy. Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, James Marsden, Kelsey Grammer, Rebecca Romjin, and Alan Cumming will return in their X-Men roles, and Channing Tatum's Gambit will join them on screen for the first time. Hugh Jackman's Wolverine and Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool haven't been confirmed to return, but they probably will join the fight in Avengers: Secret Wars.
In an interview with The Telegraph, X-Men star Alan Cumming reveals he has been doing his own stunts on the set of Avengers: Doomsday. Cumming says the stunt team is "gobsmacked" by the actor's flexibility and physique. Twenty-three years before Alan Cumming's return in Avengers: Doomsday, the actor first played Kurt Wagner a.k.

According to Deadline, Marvel Studios is in early talks with Thunderbolts* director Jake Schreier to helm the upcoming X-Men movie. Nothing is official now, but insiders say Schreier is looking like the top choice after a successful meeting last week. Michael Lesslie (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes) wrote the script for the X-Men movie, with Kevin Feige producing.
Since Disney officially acquired 20th Century Fox more than five years ago, Marvel fans have been eager for the inevitable day when the X-Men will finally join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The franchise took small steps, with a few mentions of mutants, but it slowly led to appearances from Patrick Stewart as Professor X in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Kelsey Grammer as Beast in The Marvels, and, of course, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman as the titular characters of Deadpool & Wolverine.

Alan Cumming’s return to Marvel’s cinematic lineup has already created a stir, but it’s an offhand comment during a recent interview that may have ignited a new round of speculation about Avengers: Doomsday. During a promotional conversation with BuzzFeed UK, the actor, known for portraying Nightcrawler in 2003’s X2: X-Men United, shared an anecdote that has led many to believe a key scene in the upcoming film may involve a direct clash with Pedro Pascal’s Mister Fantastic.
Marvel Studios has remained characteristically silent on the storyline of Avengers: Doomsday, which is set to release on May 1, 2026. However, Cumming’s remark—delivered with a casual tone—implied that his character might be involved in an action sequence with Pascal’s Reed Richards. “I was learning stunts yesterday for some fight scene and I just think, I’m 60 years old. 23 years ago, I played that superhero,” Cumming said.

As Alan Cumming makes his long-overdue return to the X-Men, it appears he’s avoided the notoriously scary MCU media training.
The 3x Emmy winner might have recently let a detail slip about the upcoming Phase Six installment Avengers: Doomsday, which premieres May 1, 2026 in theaters, involving his reprised role Nightcrawler and Pedro Pascal‘s Mister Fantastic.
“I was learning stunts yesterday for some fight scene and I just think, I’m 60 years old. 23 years ago, I played that superhero,” he told Buzzfeed UK. “I was kind of old for a superhero even then. And now I’m back doing it. And that, to me, is hilarious.”
Cumming continued, “I’m sort of learning these fights and I’m like, ‘What? Who am I fighting with?’ And they said, ‘You’re hitting Pedro Pascal against the head,’ or something.”

Though Avengers: Doomsday promises many battles, especially against the villainous Doctor Doom, a star of the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe blockbuster spoils that one of those fights will be between heroes. X-Men franchise actor Alan Cumming reveals who Nightcrawler will face off with in the Avengers sequel, and it could be a fantastic duel, pun intended.
Speaking with Buzzfeed UK, Cumming shared that Nightcrawler will go head-to-head with Pedro Pascal's Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic in Doomsday. When the British actor delved into his fight scenes as Nightcrawler throughout the X-Men franchise and addressed his role in the Avengers follow-up, he let slip that his character and The Fantastic Four's leader would come to blows. “I'm sort of learning these fights and I'm like, ‘What, who am I fighting with?’ [They’re like,] ‘You're hitting Pedro Pascal against the head,’” he said.

Kevin Feige's Marvel security lockdown has sprung a leak ... and the culprit isn't who you'd think it is. Normally, usual suspects like Mark Ruffalo and Tom Holland would be at the center of the latest spoiler controversy. And when it comes to what's likely to be the biggest blockbuster in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe, well, one would think that the entire ensemble cast of "Avengers: Doomsday" would've signed NDAs and sworn oaths of secrecy and maybe even undergone a blood pact or two. Unfortunately, nobody informed returning "X-Men" actor and current "The Traitors" host Alan Cumming that this is all very, very serious business.
Cumming famously portrayed the mutant Kurt Wagner aka Nightcrawler in 2003's "X2: X-Men United," stealing the show in that White House invasion sequence as he teleported from one part of the building to another, and that endless "Doomsday" casting video confirmed his return...

The photo may also give fans some insight into Downey Jr.’s appearance in the film, as he’s rocking some close-cut hair and no beard. Of course, that doesn’t necessarily mean anything, as the character of Doctor Doom is almost always depicted wearing a mask.
In addition to Downey Jr., the actors in the group shot include Chris Hemsworth, Channing Tatum, Simu Liu, Paul Rudd, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Vanessa Kirby, Winston Duke, and Anthony Mackie. All these actors are included in the...

Deadpool & Wolverine has been Marvel’s biggest hit in recent years, so it’s no surprise the studio is eager to bring those characters back. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ryan Reynolds is actively developing ideas for a new Deadpool movie that would feature several X-Men characters.
The potential project would be an ensemble with three or four X-Men characters, but Deadpool may only be a supporting player in the movie. The report states that it’s still very early days and Reynolds hasn’t yet pitched it to the studio. The actor is known for going through a lot of concepts before he lands on one he likes. Deadpool & Wolverine went through many iterations before it became the billion-dollar blockbuster that revitalized the Marvel Cinematic Universe (at least temporarily).

Last month, the Marvel Studios social media accounts started live-streaming a video they labeled as an all-caps Announcement. The video showed a soundstage where, one by one, chairs reserved for actors were revealed, with a new chair coming into view every 10 minutes or so. As it turns out, this was a very long and slow way of revealing (a large chunk of) the cast of Avengers: Doomsday, which is now in production and aiming for a May 1, 2026 theatrical release. The names of twenty-seven cast members were shown that day, with Marvel teasing, “There’s always room for more…” With cameras now rolling, we’ve been waiting to see if they’ll announce the rest of the cast list with more chair backs, or they’ll find a different way to do it. And while we wait, industry journalist Jeff Sneider of The InSneider has been sent a list that his...

THR reports that Chris Hemsworth is set to star in Subversion for Amazon MGM Studios. Directed by Patrick Vollrath from a script by Andrew Ferguson, the project has been described as a “Die Hard on a submarine” style thriller. Personally, I’m still waiting for “Die Hard on an ice cream truck.”
Hemsworth will star as a “once-promising Naval commander who is blackmailed by a cartel-like operation into piloting a dangerous submarine carrying illegal cargo across international waters. Thrust into a high-stakes game of cat and mouse, the man must outmaneuver blockades and navigate perilous threats both in and outside of the submarine.” Lorenzo di Bonaventura is set to produce through his di Bonaventura Pictures banner, with production looking to kick off in Australia this fall.

Ever since the first Iron Man film back in 2008, it's nothing new for a Marvel Studios film to not have a finalized script or for things to radically change while on set.
As such, MCU fans shouldn't really be alarmed by reports that the current script for Avengers: Doomsday isn't finalized yet, despite the fact that the Russos having revealed that filming kicks off today.
But apparently, there's a very special reason why the script isn't finalized, according to recent reports.
It's because Marvel Studios hasn't signed all of the actors yet that it wants to appear in the film.
Yep. This is what @TheInSneider has been reporting for Weeks on The Hot Mic and in his newsletter.

Guillermo del Toro is one of the finest filmmakers of his generation, having first garnered critical acclaim for his indie horror movies. He later gained commercial success and also won an Academy Award, establishing himself as a bankable director. However, del Toro has recently stepped away from blockbuster filmmaking.
Despite his recent change of plans, del Toro needs to direct one X-Men movie that is right up his alley. After several failed attempts, del Toro seems to be no longer interested in superhero movies. However, one X-Men character is simply too perfect for del Toro’s storytelling sensibilities. Here is why del Toro was born to direct a movie based on this Marvel character.

By the time Chris Claremont took over as writer of Marvel's X-Men comic with issue No. 94, there had been an amalgam of various speculative storylines regarding Nightcrawler's (Kurt Wagner) origin, backstory, and mutant lineage. Claremont initially added an image-inducer as part of Kurt’s storyline to hide his indigo-colored skin and demonic-like features that manifested in yellow eyes, a prehensile forked tail, pointed ears, and two-toed feet and three-fingered hands.
The character made his debut on the big screen in 2002's X2: X-Men United, in which he was portrayed by Alan Cumming. Fans instantly fell in love with him and spent much of the subsequent movies wondering why he didn't return. That is, until now.

When Marvel Studios rolled out the cast of Avengers: Doomsday, one Marvel star who curiously didn't have a film set chair was Samuel L. Jackson, who portrays Nick Fury in the MCU.
So does that mean the former S.H.I.E.L.D. director will be absent in Doomsday? The Disney+ series Secret Invasion was a monumental miss by Marvel standards so perhaps the studio is sidelining Nick Fury for the being, until the show fades from memory?
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, actor Anthony Mackie joked, "If you know anything about Sam, you can't tell Sam where he's going to be and what he's going to be doing. Sam is going to tell you where he's going to be and what he's going to be doing. So, we'll see; you never know..."

Previously, we heard from Captain America star Anthony Mackie that Avengers: Doomsday would give fans that 'old school Marvel feeling', and his latest comments indicate that there's one film in particular that Doomsday might be looking to channel.

Anthony Mackie believes Avengers: Doomsday marks a return to form for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In a recent interview with IGN, the actor expressed optimism about the upcoming film, which is set to be released on May 1, 2026.
“We’re supposed to go out this week, and we’ll be out there doing it,” Mackie said. “Everybody’s excited. I feel with the script and having the Russo brothers back, it’s going to be great.” He added that the movie is expected to give audiences what he called “that old Marvel feeling.”
Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, Avengers: Doomsday reunites the filmmaking duo with Marvel Studios for the first time since Avengers: Endgame. Their involvement has drawn attention at a time when recent Marvel titles have been met with mixed reactions. The upcoming film appears designed to re-energize the franchise with a high-profile cast and characters from across Marvel’s various storylines.

It’s no secret that the Marvel Cinematic Universe isn’t exactly in tip-top shape. With the film set to soar into theaters in May 2026, Cumming revealed he’s already undergone makeup tests, sessions that have underscored the advancements in SFX makeup over the past two decades since he last played the blue-skinned mutant.
“I had some makeup tests already,” Cumming said during a Friday appearance on Today with Jenna & Friends. “It was like four and a half to five hours [of makeup] before, and now it’s 90 minutes.”

Of all the actors announced as being part of last week's massive Avengers: Doomsday's cast reveal live-stream, Alan Cumming might have been the most surprising.
Cumming made his one and only appearance in 20th Century Fox's X-Men franchise as Kurt Wagner, aka Nightcrawler, in X2, but declined the studio's offer to reprise the role for the third film because he had no interest in sitting through the arduous makeup process again.
Wagner didn't show up in again until Kodi Smit-McPhee took over as a younger take on the character in X-Men: Apocalypse.
There's been some speculation that Cumming may only be lending his voice to a fully CG take on Nightcrawler, but the actor has now confirmed that this will not be the case, as he's already done a makeup test.
"Isn't it nuts? I'm excited and amazed," Cumming tells Collider when asked about his return for Doomsday.

Deadpool & Wolverine actor Channing Tatum is set to continue his celebrated Marvel Cinematic Universe run in the highly-anticipated Avengers: Doomsday. However, fans hoping to see Tatum reprise his fan-favorite role of Gambit in the upcoming Avengers sequel may be disappointed as the acclaimed actor suggests he could play a new character instead.
Speaking with Extra at CinemaCon, Tatum delved into his confirmed Doomsday appearance as he was one of the many names unveiled during Marvel's record-breaking casting announcement livestream. Though Tatum had a chair on that livestream, said chair only had his name and not the character he'll play, leading to speculation about whether he'll return as Gambit for the Avengers follow-up. While he hasn't ruled out playing Remy LeBeau again, he hinted that he could have a different part.

Remember Alan Cumming’s Nightcrawler in X2: X-Men United? His teleporting, cobalt-skinned character made a huge impression, but fans were left scratching their heads when he didn’t show up in X-Men: The Last Stand. So, what happened? It was a bit of a mystery back then, especially since he was such a standout in the second movie.
Fast forward to today, and Cumming’s big return to the superhero scene in Avengers: Doomsday has taken everyone by surprise! The guy who brought Kurt Wagner to life is back in action, but before we dive into that, it’s worth looking back to understand why Nightcrawler didn’t return for the X-Men sequel. Was it a scheduling issue? A script thing? Or maybe something else entirely? Whatever the case, it’s time to unravel the mystery behind Cumming’s absence from The Last Stand,...

As you might expect, Marvel Studios played a big part in Disney’s presentation at CinemaCon.
Thunderbolts* is the next Marvel outing, with Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), Red Guardian (David Harbour), John Walker (Wyatt Russell), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), and Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko) forced to unite on a dangerous mission. Lewis Pullman plays Bob, a superpower individual also known as The Sentry. Julia Louis-Dreyfus also returns as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, who seems to be pulling the strings behind the scenes.
The Thunderbolts* portion of Marvel’s panel at CinemaCon got off to an awkward start. Well, kind of. The film’s stars executed a funny bit where they arrived at the panel late, with Wyatt Russell looking particularly disheveled. Russell pretended to be drunk and told the crowd he lost $37K at a nearby casino. Meanwhile, Florence Pugh “accidentally” called David Harbour “Day-Barr.”

Marvel icon Spider-Man swings into CinemaCon thanks to Sony Pictures and Spider-Man 4. The ongoing deal between Sony and Marvel Studios puts the beloved web-slinger in something of a limbo state in which Tom Holland’s Peter Parker is part of the MCU...and a little separate.
During CinemaCon, Sony Pictures announced that the upcoming MCU sequel is now titled Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The title seemingly refers to a new beginning in Peter Parker's life after the world forgot who he was at the end of No Way Home. The Brand New Day subtitle actually surfaced online late last year, so it seems Sony and Marvel Studios have been set on the new title convention for quite some time now.

Last Wednesday, Marvel launched a livestream for its upcoming cinematic epic Avengers: Doomsday. The event, which moved at a snail’s pace, featured a then-unknown crew member placing chairs in a line, each revealing a confirmed cast member of the Joe and Anthony Russo-directed movie. As a chair appeared every 10-15 minutes, the five-and-a-half-hour-long presentation helped build anticipation for the film across social media and the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Here’s the list of actors and characters Marvel confirmed for the movie: We have Robert Downey Jr. – not as his Tony Stark / Iron Man character from earlier MCU movies, but as the villainous Doctor Doom / Victor von Doom. Chris Hemsworth is back as Thor, with Tom Hiddleston as his brother Loki. Anthony Mackie returns as the new Captain America, and Danny Ramirez as the new Falcon. Paul Rudd returns as Ant-Man. On X (formerly Twitter), Marvel Studios revealed the impressive lead cast of Avengers: Doomsday, slated for release in 2026. The new movie will mark the first time the titular team has assembled since 2019's Avengers: Endgame. With several of Earth's mightiest heroes now either deceased or retired, the new movie will feature a new Avengers roster, presumably led by Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson as the McU's new Captain America. However, the Avengers aren't the only heroes set to appear in Doomsday, as they will be crossing paths with other teams of heroes from their universe and beyond.
In addition to those cast members expected to reprise their MCU roles to join the new Avengers lineup, the Avengers: Doomsday cast announcement included the names of several stars from other Marvel movies. On Wednesday morning, the Marvel Studios social media accounts started livestreaming a video they labeled as an all-caps Announcement. The video showed a soundstage where, one by one, chairs reserved for actors were revealed, with a new chair coming into view every 10 minutes or so – and viewers quickly realized this was a long, slow way of revealing (a large chunk of) the cast of Avengers: Doomsday, which is now in production and aiming for a May 1, 2026 theatrical release. Some viewers found this stunt to be ridiculous and annoying, while others had fun with it. As someone who kept the livestream on for all 5 hours and 27 minutes so I could update an article here on JoBlo (you can see that article Here), I was put off by the slowness of the reveals at first, but soon got into the groove, eagerly looking forward to seeing which name would be next and...

Yesterday, Marvel Studios spent five and a half hours slowly revealing the names of twenty-seven cast members who will be appearing in Avengers: Doomsday, which is now in production and aiming for a May 1, 2026 theatrical release. Many of the cast members were fully expected to be in there, but there were quite a few surprises, as it turns out that several characters from the Fox X-Men films are going to be in this movie. Once the announcement came to an end, Marvel teased, “There’s always room for more…” And a lot of fans were left wanting more, because there were some big names missing from the list. Some of those missing names might be confirmed to be a part of the film at a later date – but industry scooper Jeff Sneider of The InSneider cautions that we shouldn’t get our hopes up for a couple of the missing characters,...

Marvel has assembled the cast of Avengers: Doomsday.
On Wednesday, the studio slowly unveiled the cast for the upcoming superhero blockbuster from filmmakers Joe and Anthony Russo. During a five-hour and 23-minute live stream, 27 actors were announced as participants, culminating with Robert Downey Jr. appearing in person (the only cast member to do so). Downey, who played Tony Stark in the original Infinity Saga of Marvel Cinematic Universe films, is starring as the villainous Doctor Doom for his Marvel return. The Oscar-winning star put his index finger to his mouth before walking off screen, a potential hat-tip to how Doom might infiltrate the Marvel heroes — by pretending to be Stark's Iron Man but from a different dimension.

For years, Marvel Studios was unable to integrate the X-Men, one of the most famous superhero teams of all time, into its Marvel Cinematic Universe. That was because 20th Century Fox owned the screen rights to the X-Men. But then Marvel's parent company Disney bought 20th Century Fox in 2019. Outside of a couple fun cameos, we have yet to see an actual X-Man mutant appear in a Marvel movie from Disney. But we know that's going to change, and likely soon.
Hunger Games screenwriter Michael Lesslie has been working on a script for something, and there have been a lot of casting rumors flying around lately. Sadie Sink from Stranger Things may play Jean Grey. Charlie Heaton from Stranger Things may play Wolverine. Javier Bardem may play the villain Mister Sinister. Avatar star Jack Champion may play Cyclops. The Bear's Ayo Edebiri may play Storm, and so on. There's even...

Warning: contains spoilers for Ultimate Wolverine #1The world of Marvel's new Ultimate Universe is dark, brutal, and filled with tragedy... but perhaps none worse than the recent death of Nightcrawler at the hands of his best friend Wolverine in the debut issue of Ultimate Wolverine. In nearly every universe the kind-souled Kurt Wagner is best friends with the gruff Logan, and the Ultimate Universe is no different, with Nightcrawler's sudden death highlighting why Kurt will always be the heart of the X-Men.
This is the first, and potentially last, time Marvel's "fluffy elf" Nightcrawler has been seen in the Ultimate Universe, a shocking introduction and loss of one of Earth-616s most beloved members of the X-Men team.
Ultimate Wolverine #1, from writer Chris Condon and artist Alessandro Cappuccio, sees the origin of the Eurasia Republic's dangerous Winter Soldier revealed, as Logan is transformed into a brainwashed weapon of fascism,...

X-Men '97 reminded wider audiences what Nightcrawler is capable of, which makes it strange that Marvel Comics is seemingly trying to downplay the fan-favorite character's prowess in combat, despite decades of lore depicting him as a master swordsman. Though Kurt Wagner has a reputation as the X-franchise's resident man of faith, he has never shied away from a fight, either.
X-Men #9 – written by Jed MacKay, with art by Ryan Stegman – continues the "Raid on Graymalkin" crossover with Uncanny X-Men, including the finish to the battle between Nightcrawler and Psylocke, which began in Uncanny X-Men #7.
The outcome is quick and decisive, and doesn't account for Nightcrawler's noted battle-tested skill set, as Psylocke easily pins down Kurt. While Nightcrawler prioritizes non-lethally neutralizing his fellow mutant hero, Psylocke calls Kurt out for his pacifism, before taunting that he merely plays with his blades.

Jolie has also directed several films, such as First They Killed My Fathers (2017) and Unbroken (2014). Jolie took a break from acting from 2021's Eternals until 2024's Maria to focus on spending more time with her six kids, Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, and twins Knox and Vivienne.
