The Fantastic Four: First Steps - H.E.R.B.I.E. Voice Actor Revealed Along With New Look At The Robot

Empire Magazine has shared a new promo still for Marvel Studios' The Fantastic Four: First Steps, giving us another look at H.E.R.B.I.E. the robot.
Several different H.E.R.B.I.E. props were used to bring the little fella to life, including a wooden puppet stand-in and a full animatronic controlled by four people (CGI was also utlized).
"He’s absolutely as important and as alive as any other member of the cast,” director Matt Shakman tells the site. “He’s sometimes a slightly put-upon robot, but he is definitely a member of the family. He’s just so charming and adorable. He is really Reed’s right hand in the lab, capable of assisting him on any sort of experiment, always by his side, whether in New York City or out in space.”
Empire also reveals who will provide the voice of H.

'The Fantastic Four: First Steps' Just Recruited a Star Wars Veteran To Debunk a Major Casting Rumor

The Fantastic Four: First Steps is officially only a few months away, and the most anticipated MCU film of 2025 just got a major update. Empire Magazine unveiled a new image of H.E.R.B.I.E. in the film, and buried in the report was the news that the character will be voiced by Matthew Wood, famous for his work as General Grievous in the Star Wars prequel trilogy. The new image of H.E.R.B.I.E. can be found below. This confirmation debunks an extremely popular rumor that Natasha Lyonne would be the voice of H.E.R.B.I.E. in The Fantastic Four: First Steps. It remains unclear who Lyonne will play in the film, but she did recently make her animated MCU debut as Byrdie in What If…? Season 3.
The report also includes an interview with director Matt Shakman (WandaVision), who highlights H.E.R.B.I.E.’s importance to the team. He’s the perfect assistant...

It's been a long road for Marvel's Thunderbolts* to cinemas as the Hollywood Writers' Strike severely impacted the film's production schedule.
As such, the extra time afforded extra time to polish the script, which saw three scribes apply their trade to the finished product: Eric Pearson, Lee Sung Jin (Beef), and Joanna Calo.
Along the way, various ideas and plot threads ended up being left on the cutting room floor, including Man-Thing, Baron Zemo, a larger role for Taskmaster, and US Agent turning into a Hulk-like monster.
It's also been revealed that with the screenplay first being worked on by Pearson in 2021, the Thunderbolts* were originally intended to have a tie-in to Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.
However, Jonathan Majors' legal trouble led to him being fired by Marvel in December 2023, and Marvel Studios ultimately pivoted to Doctor Doom and Robert Downey Jr.

A new living situation spells laughs, adventure, and growth in Nickelodeon’s original 2D-animated series, Wylde Pak, premiering on Friday, June 6 at 7:30 p.m. (Et/Pt) in the U.S. and later this year internationally.
Produced by Nickelodeon Animation, Wylde Pak explores the dynamics of a multigenerational and multicultural blended family as half-siblings Lily and Jack learn to navigate new family dynamics under one roof for the first time.
In the half-hour premiere episode, “Best Summer Ever?,” Jack and Lily are half-siblings living on opposite ends of the world—until Jack shows up on Lily’s doorstep for the summer. Their arguing sends the family’s new grooming trailer careening through town, and they must save their family’s livelihood and Halmoni, who is stuck inside.

Last year, we got confirmation that The Fantastic Four: First Steps will introduce a female take on Marvel Comics' classic space-faring hero, the Silver Surfer - but not the version of the character fans are most familiar with.
Emmy Award-winner Julia Garner will play the movie's Surfer, but not a gender-switched take on Norrin Radd. Garner will actually take on the role of Shalla-Bal.
In the original Marvel Comics continuity, Shalla-Bal was the Empress of the planet Zenn-La, and was the first love of Norrin Radd. When Galactus came to devour their planet, Radd volunteered to become his herald in exchange for sparing Zenn-La. Later, when Franklin Richards took over as the new Galactus, he imbued Shalla with the same cosmic powers and allowed her to serve as a twin herald alongside Radd.

Will Sharpe and Ayo Edebiri are set to lead a new AppleTV+ rom-com, Prodigies.
Written and directed by Sharpe of The White Lotus and A Real Pain fame, the seven-part series also boasts Edebiri (The Bear) as an executive producer.
From Sister, the rom-com will explore the universal complexities of long-term relationships through the lens of “a very unique couple”.
“Didi (Edebiri) and Ren (Sharpe) are two ex-child prodigies who have been together since they were children,” a plot synopsis reads. “Now in their early 30s, they are starting to question whether their very ordinary existence is living up to the extraordinary promise of their childhood. Inevitably, they find themselves asking the same questions of their relationship. As individual hopes and needs feed into and conflict with their shared lives, the series challenges the fallacy at the heart of romantic storytelling — that the tale is over when the heroes get together.

The new trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps finally showed Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal) using his powers, putting an end to the speculation that the character's somewhat bizarre abilities might be revamped for the MCU reboot.
Though these powers will obviously be brought to life via CGI, Pascal was still required to act out the scenes pre-vfx, and the actor has now revealed his surprising inspiration for Mr. Fantastic's stretchy abilities.
“With Reed, his body may stretch, but this is a brain character,” The Last of Us star told ComicCook.com during Star Wars Celebration. “I guess I’ll just give it completely away. I thought of the brilliance of an octopus. Not in any literal physical translated way, but I put it into my subconscious. Yeah. That’s the biggest character secret reveal that I’ve given to you.”

Star Warsfans get their first look at Jeremy Allen White's Rotta the Hutt.
The image of Rotta the Hutt was unveiled during a panel for The Mandalorian & Grogu at the Star Wars Celebration event; it has since spread on social media. The admittedly grainy image showcases the hulking, sluggish Rotta raising his arms in what appears to be some sort of arena. The character, who is voiced by The Bear star Jeremy Allen White, will be making his live-action, silver screen debut next summer when The Mandalorian & Grogu arrives in theaters on May 22, 2026.

Marvel Studios released a brand-new trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps earlier today, and an IMAX version has now been shared online.
Though the IMAX trailer doesn't include any new footage, the aspect ratio does allow us to see a little more of the action, and the shot of Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal) using his stretchy abilities reveals that it's actually Galactus that's causing the building to crumble around the hero.
The Eater of Worlds (Ralph Ineson) is still being kept under wraps, but we do see his gigantic feet crashing through the city right at the end of the trailer. The new teaser also unveils the Silver Surfer (Julia Garner), who has been brought to life via CGI.
Have a look at the IMAX trailer along with some 4K screenshots below, and let us know what you think of this latest look at the MCU reboot in the comments section.

A beloved British character actor has been added to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and we've just been offered our first glimpse at the man in action. Disney and Marvel Studios have only just released a brand new trailer for "The Fantastic Four: First Steps," which offers our first look at the film's Silver Surfer (Julia Garner). But it also opens with a glimpse at "Game of Thrones" and "Doctor Who" alum Mark Gatiss, who has an interesting role to play in this summer's superheroic proceedings.
The trailer begins with a speech from the stage of a fictional talk show called "The Ted Gilbert Show," with Gatiss portraying Ted Gilbert. While we don't get to see a ton of him in the footage, save for the opening chunk, Gatiss is very convincing as a retro-futuristic version of a '60s talk show host, that much is certain. “Warfare” is an exceedingly realistic war film. The new A24 thriller from co-directors Alex Garland and Ray Mendoza depicts in real-time an Iraq War firefight that goes increasingly wrong for a troop of Navy SEALs. Its ensemble cast features up-and-coming Hollywood stars like Joseph Quinn (“The Fantastic Four: First Steps”), Will Poulter (“The Bear”), Charles Melton (“May December”), Cosmo Jarvis (“Shogun”) and Michael Gandolfini (“Daredevil: Born Again”).
The film marks the directorial debut of Mendoza, an Iraq War veteran who met Garland while serving as a military advisor on the latter’s “Civil War.” On the set of that film, Garland was reportedly struck by Mendoza’s knowledge and perspective, and the two teamed up to make “Warfare,” a film that strives to capture what real-world military combat is like more realistically than any other Hollywood production to date.

The State of the Race
While plenty of Emmy categories have shuffled through different shows and different actors year-to-year, Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series has remained very consistent. In fact, not only is it the rare category where all of last year’s nominees are still eligible, it has multiple actors in the race that have been nominated for the same performance before.

Director Matt Shakman has been directing TV shows in a variety of genres since 2002. Among his many projects have been instantly recognizable shows such as Boston Legal, Six Feet Under, Ugly Betty, House, Mad Men, and American Gothic. Now he's taking on directing duties for his first big-budget Hollywood film with Marvel Studios' The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
But First Steps is not Shakman's first Marvel Studios project as he also directed the wildly successful and critically acclaimed Disney Plus series WandaVision, which took the world by storm in 2021. Golden Globe nominee Pedro Pascal has addressed the pressures that come with getting cast as the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic in The Fantastic Four: First Steps. The fan-favorite hero was previously played by Alex Hyde-White in the 1994 movie, Ioan Gruffudd in Fox’s first Fantastic Four movies, Miles Teller in Fox’s 2015 reboot, and John Krasinski in 2022’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

The first clip from Marvel Studios' The Fantastic Four: First Steps has been released online, but it's only a few seconds long.
In the brief sneak peek, Johnny Storm (Joseph Quinn) gets on Reed (Pedro Pascal) and Sue's (Vanessa Kirby) case for showing up late to dinner.
Quinn spoke about how his take on the Human Torch will differ to previous incarnations of the character in a recent interview with EW.
"He's a man that leads with a lot of bravado, which can be an affront sometimes. But also he's funny. Myself and Kevin Feige were speaking about previous iterations of him and where we are culturally. He was branded as this womanizing, devil-may-care guy, but is that sexy these days?
I don't think so. This version of Johnny is less callous with other people's feelings, and hopefully there's a self-awareness about what's driving that attention-seeking behavior."

Plot: When his supervisors at the CIA refuse to take action after his wife is killed in a London terrorist attack, a decoder takes matters into his own hands.
Review: I’m of the opinion that revenge is one of the best catalysts for a great action movie. John Wick, Kill Bill, or hell, even The Punisher are all stories of revenge that give a clear goal for both the protagonist and the audience. We want to see the bad guys get their comeuppance and the hero stand tall over them. Yet we’ve seen so many variations over the years that it can be tough to come up with a unique spin. But I’d say casting Academy Award Winner Rami Malek as your action lead is a good start in the unique department.
The Amateur follows CIA decoder, Heller (Malek), who loses his wife, Sarah (Rachel Brosnahan), in a terrorist attack in London.

Spy thrillers never have been out of vogue and generally rely on action stars to drive the usual scenarios in this well-worn genre, but The Amateur is an effective twist on the formula by plucking a rather nondescript CIA analyst and letting him turn the tables on the bad guys using his own smarts and non-physical skills.
It really becomes Jason Bourne for nerds and as such stands right up there with Bourne as one of the more exciting spy thrillers in many years — at least one that is different and emotional with a nice human touch to it. The fun of it all, in addition to the obvious international globetrotting to the likes of London, Paris, Marseilles and Istanbul, is watching Rami Malek’s Charlie Heller pull off the impossible against formidable terrorists in clever ways no one sees coming.

A new era of the MCU begins with this year’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and Marvel’s beloved first family has now arrived at CinemaCon. The new trailer shared with the audience was relayed by Discussing Film, who described the events of the new footage as: \
"The footage opens with our titular family/superhero group being brought onto a talk show, it is established that the Fantastic Four have been around for a good while in this alternate universe of the MCU and are beloved by their society. Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby) and Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal) arrive late to dinner with Johnny Storm (Joseph Quinn) and Ben Grimm (Ebon Moss-Bacharach), but to make up for it, she announces that she is pregnant. Johnny congratulates the couple, saying Sue will make a great mom and joking that Reed has some work to do.

Everybody's got a hungry heart for more of Jeremy Allen White playing Bruce Springsteen, and Disney is here to deliver at CinemaCon. During the Mouse House's two-hour presentation on Thursday, a new sizzle reel was shared exclusively to attendees that shed some more light on the upcoming biopic Deliver Me From Nowhere, about The Boss's journey to creating his stripped-down sixth album, Nebraska. Collider's Britta DeVore was seated at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas for the presentation of the sneak peek and received a new look at The Bear star amid the pivotal moment in his musical career.
While we've already seen White dressed as the spitting image of the "Born in the U.S.A." singer, the reel goes much deeper.
Bruce is recording on his own at the start of the teaser, happy and content to be doing the work by himself before he’s pulled into the big game.

Though Warner Bros.' CinemaCon presentation dominated much of yesterday's news cycle (even though most fans seemed to consider the panel a bit of a disappointment), we did get one minor Marvel Studios-related reveal.
Tie-in popcorn holders are becoming more and more common for pretty much every major studio release, and a first look at the Thing-inspired bucket for Marvel Studios' The Fantastic Four: First Steps was spotted on the convention floor in Las Vegas last night.
The design isn't anything too surprising or out there (something tells us those suggestive Deadpool and Wolverine popcorn holders were a one-off), but it should make for a nice collectible for fans of Marvel's First Family.
Check out the bucket at the link below, and keep an eye out for any potential news from tonight's Universal Pictures presentation.

Last month, A24 sent the horror film Opus, starring Ayo Edebiri (The Bear) and John Malkovich (Billions), out into the world – and they didn’t get a very enthusiastic response. For example, JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray gave the film a 6/10 review and the film has only managed to scrape together $2 million at the global box office. Maybe Opus will have more success now that people can watch it in their own homes, as it has already been given a Premium VOD release. The film is available to rent on Amazon for the price of $19.99, or it can be purchased for $24.99.
The feature debut of writer/director Mark Anthony Green, Opus was being kept shrouded in secrecy in the build-up to its theatrical release. Deadline did let us know that the story centers on an iconic pop star’s return following his decades-long disappearance. USA Today elaborated, The horror film...

While he is sure to be just a little biased, The Fantastic Four: First Steps actor Paul Walter Hauser is confident that the upcoming Marvel Studios reboot will be the best movie released this year - and may even prove to be an historical benchmark for the studio.
While speaking to The Direct, the Black Bird star - who is believed to be playing the villainous Mole Man in the movie - hyped up Marvel's First Family's latest big-screen adventure by comparing it to the likes of the first Guardians of the Galaxy and Black Panther. He also alluded to First Steps getting the MCU "back on track."
“So, I think our movie, Fantastic Four: First Steps, to me, only speaking from my opinion, everything I witnessed and took part in, everything I felt while in the presence of the creatives on the film, I believe we are the Marvel movie of the year.

If you haven't seen the animated Netflix series Big Mouth yet, now is a good time to start. The show will be coming to an end soon, so if you want to catch the final episodes as soon as they are dropped and clearly be caught up, watch now. We promise you will be entertained.
The show was created by real-life friends Nick Kroll and Andrew Goldberg. It is a look at how being a teenager and going through puberty can really stink, but having friends one can count on makes everything in life better. If that sounds overly fluffy, so be it. The show isn't, but it also pulls back from being depressing.
The actors who have been involved in the series have been a talented bunch. The mainstays have been Kroll, of course, as well as Fred Armisen, Ayo Edebiri (The Bear), Jessi Klein, Jason Mantzoukas, Jordan Peele,...

It seems only right that a crowd of veterans were the first to see Warfare, U.S. Navy Seal Ray Mendoza’s feature directorial debut, co-written and co-directed with Alex Garland.
On Wednesday night, A24 put on a special screening of the film at the L.A. American Legion Theater, with many of the real men behind the story present among the military community in the audience.
Warfare reunites Garland with Civil War military advisor Mendoza and this film plays out real events in real-time, based on Mendoza and his platoon’s experience on a mission in Iraq in 2006. When things take a very extreme turn, the Platoon must find a way out, with all of their lives hanging in the balance.
During a post-screening Q&a, Garland said of working with the veterans involved: “I’m a civilian and we hear about the military, and people sometimes think they understand, and they don’t.

"Wait, we never win," said a shocked Selena Gomez upon accepting the Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Comedy Ensemble for Only Murders in the Building last month. Before the ceremony, the Hulu mystery series had never prevailed at the awards, but this year it achieved two upsets for its fourth season. In addition to the ensemble award, Martin Short won individual acting kudos despite ranking last in Gold Derby's odds. The question now is whether the show can carry that momentum all the way to the upcoming Emmys and win its first Best Comedy Series prize.
Let's look to the past. How often has the SAG Award winner for Best Comedy Ensemble followed that with the Emmy for Best Comedy Series? Here's the complete history, with the double winners highlighted in bold.
1995: Seinfeld won SAG Award; Frasier won Emmy
1996: Friends won SAG Award; Frasier won Emmy

Following that revealing Avengers: Doomsday concept art (check it out here if you haven't already), we have some more of Mushk Rizvi's designs from her official site, this time spotlighting the main characters from The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
Spoilers follow.
This artwork features several different costume designs for the members of Marvel's First Family, as well as some alternate looks for H.E.R.B.I.E the robot. We also have confirmation that Franklin Richards will appear in the movie, and one animated clip shows the lad in a Spider-Man onesie using his powers.
Franklin's role has yet to be officially announced, but arguably the biggest reveal here is our first glimpse of Shalla Bal/Silver Surfer, who will be played by Julia Garner in the movie.

For the second straight year, Netflix live-streamed the Screen Actors Guild Awards. The experience went extremely well, proving once again that the streamer is getting ever-better at such events. Maybe the SAG Awards won't bring the same viewing numbers as an NFL game, but the ceremony is just as worthy of a watch.
Netflix also came away with two winners on Sunday. Emilia Pérez missed out on Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture, but Zoe Saldaña won for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role. That trend hopefully will continue when the Oscars are held in March. She is worthy of another win.
Jessica Gunning won for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Miniseries or Television Movie for her work in Baby Reindeer. She was also worthy of the victory, and won an Emmy in the same kind of category for the role.

Though it might seem hard to believe given the range of genres he's appeared in over the years, John Malkovich will make his superhero movie debut in this year's The Fantastic Four: First Steps, but the legendary actor has now revealed that he has had several opportunities to join major comic book movie projects in the past.
While speaking to GQ, Malkovich explained that he declined a number of Marvel offers in the past, for the simple reason that he didn't feel the studio was willing to pay him enough.
“The reason I didn’t do them had nothing to do with any artistic considerations whatsoever,” said the Opus star. “I didn’t like the deals they made, at all. These films are quite gruelling to make… If you’re going to hang from a crane in front of a green screen for six months, pay me. You don’t want to pay me,...

Miles Teller is doing the press rounds to promote his new genre-mashup, The Gorge, and with the first trailer for Marvel Studios' Fantastic Four: First Steps hitting last week, questions inevitably turned to the actor's role as Reed Richards in 20th Century Fox's Fant4stic.
Josh Trank's Ff movie was a notorious bomb, and not something the director or cast have been particularly enthusiastic to discuss over the years.
As you might expect, Teller wasn't too eager to talk about his brief tenure as Mr. Fantastic while chatting to THR, but he did reveal that he watched the trailer for the MCU reboot, and is excited to see the movie later this year.
“I don’t wish anybody to be a part of a bomb … I just wish them the best," Teller said. "I saw the little trailer and I thought it looked fantastic, I’m very excited for them.

Though you may not have noticed this even if you did decide to watch the pre-launch livestream counting down to the release of the trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps earlier this week, if you listened closely, you might have caught a recurring beeping sound hidden away in Michael Giacchino's score.
Those who did catch the unusual beeps have been speculating about what they could mean, and we now have an explanation - though it's not very exciting.
According to Redditor whatnowayimpossible, this was actually a Morse Code signal that spelled out the word Radiation.
Again, nothing that would seem particularly relevant to the plot, but there's speculation that this could be a warning message sent back to Earth that wasn't picked up by the team before they embarked on their fateful space mission.
In the comics, Marvel's First Family gain their superpowers after being subjected to cosmic rays.
