[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the Fire Country Season 3 premiere “What the Bride Said.”] Considering how Gabriela (Stephanie Arcila) is at her own wedding (she kept looking at her ex instead of the groom), it’s probably a good thing a helicopter crash interrupts it on Fire Country! Gabriela has yet to say “I do” to Diego (Rafael de la Fuente) when everyone must leap into action to help the injured, among whom is Genevieve (Alix West Lefler), trapped with her maybe biological father Rick (Adam Aalderks) while Jake (Jordan Calloway) tries to get to them. Manny (Kevin Alejandro) gets a brief reprieve from jail when he’s caught up in the crash and helps out—with Luke (Michael Trucco) speaking up for him—but he’s not exactly happy about what’s going on with his daughter and Bode (Max Thieriot). In fact, he asks Sharon (Diane Farr) to keep the two apart. Uh-oh! But...

Horror fans rejoice! After being removed from Netflix, where it was originally released in 2016 following its premiere at SXSW that year, Mike Flanagan’s edge-of-your-seat thriller, “Hush,” is finally receiving a U.S. theatrical release. This news comes a month after it was announced that the film would also get its first physical release on 4K, featuring both a restored version of the original cut, as well as a new black-and-white “Shush Cut” with remixed audio, which premiered at Beyond Fest on September 27. The film is also now available to stream on Shudder.
“Hush” was co-written by Flanagan’s wife and longtime collaborator, Katie Siegel, who also stars in the film. She plays a deaf writer who retreats to the woods to work in solitude, only to find herself under attack by a masked killer. Known for its unique and chilling soundscape, the film toggles back and forth between the...

Fire Country fans have been eagerly awaiting the Season 3 trailer and it certainly does not disappoint. The big questions since the Season 2 finally has been if Gabreila Perez (Stephanie Arcila) would marry Diego Moreno (Rafael de la Fuente) after Bode Leone ( Max Thieriot) walked out.
Of course, Bode left on the advice of Gabreila’s father, Manny Perez ( Kevin Alejandro). Did Gabriela go through with the wedding or did she realize she wasn’t over Bode?
Fire Country Spoilers – Devine Intervention Perhaps?
Bode may have thought he was doing the right thing by walking away because he just wants Gabi to be happy.
However, it seems that someone higher may believe Gabi needs to think this over one more time. Gabi and Diego never even get to the vows because of what can only be seen as devine intervention.
An emergency arises and Gabi declares that they need to help,...

Mike Flanagan’s home invasion horror movie Hush (2016) made its debut on Digital courtesy of Shout! Studios just last week, the film finally available to watch again after disappearing from streaming for the past couple years. The film has also never received a physical media release, but we’ve learned that’s all changing thanks to Scream Factory later this year.
Hush comes to physical media for the very first time in a 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray Collector’s Edition release from Scream Factory on November 26, 2024, the company announced today!
Scream Factory previews, “This highly anticipated Collector’s Edition includes a newly restored 4K version of the film, supervised and approved by Director Mike Flanagan.
“Additionally, a new black-and-white version of the film, nicknamed the “Shush Cut,” with a new audio mix will be featured. This mix removes nearly all of the score, providing a different effect that is just as terrifying as the original.

In 2016, Mike Flanagan's horror movie "Hush" hit streaming service Netflix and quickly got attention. The slasher-thriller follows a deaf writer (played by Kate Siegel) who finds herself targeted by a masked killer. Since she's unable to hear, the writer can never quite be sure when the killer is coming or what he's doing, which only heightens the tension. It's an effective movie from one of our best modern horror filmmakers, and Flanagan would go on to make more projects with Netflix, including the excellent series "The Haunting of Hill House." But sadly, streaming doesn't last forever, and in 2023, "Hush" left Netflix. To make matters worse, the movie wasn't available anywhere else — Netflix very rarely does physical releases for their streaming titles, and as such, "Hush" felt like it was lost in the ether.
Thankfully, hope was on the way. For one thing, the movie became available on digital in August of this year.

Talent recognizes talent. Such is the case when it comes to the new character of Camden, played by Jared Padalecki, joining Fire Country Season 3. Padalecki is set for a three-episode arc as a SoCal firefighter and maverick with a surfer swagger who is a force to be reckoned with and immediately recognizes Bode’s (Max Thieriot) raw talent. “We’re so excited,” executive producer Tia Napolitano tells TV Insider. “The part was written for Jared, very specifically. Jared and Max are buddies, so that helped.” Season 2 ended with Bode out—he got time off his sentence, which he was serving at Three Rock fire camp, for saving his father Vince (Billy Burke)—and trying to figure out what’s next for him. He knows he wants it to include firefighting; he went to his uncle, Luke (Michael Trucco), at the end of the finale and asked him to pull strings to make that happen.

Mike Flanagan’s favorite of his own films is will soon be for sale on digital — finally.
The horror auteur’s 2016 SXSW festival pick “Hush” will be released on PVOD (pay video on-demand) for the first time August 27 by Shout! Studios in collaboration with Flanagan, Intrepid Pictures, and Blumhouse. The film will be available for purchase and/or rent across major digital entertainment platforms in the U.S. and Canada.
This won’t be the first time “Hush” has ever been available on streaming — the film was on Netflix until being unceremoniously removed in 2023.
“‘Hush’ is one of the projects that is closest to my heart, and I cannot think of a better home than Shout!,” Flanagan said in a press statement. “I’m so glad that people will finally be able to rent or purchase the film digitally. Filmmaker Mike Flanagan has written some dark, disturbing endings in his career… but we shouldn’t expect to see much of that from him in the future. During a recent interview with actress Katee Sackhoff for the Sackhoff Show podcast, Flanagan explained why he’s done with bleak, hopeless endings.
Flanagan told Sackhoff (with thanks to Cbr for the transcription), “A lot of the stuff I was writing had really bleak endings and very hopeless endings. It pivots right after [Hill House] and everything I’ve done since then doesn’t have that.” Sackhoff asked if that’s the influence of his wife Kate Siegel coming through, and Flanagan said, “I think in a lot of ways it is. And it’s because of family. When Kate and I got together, my outlook changed a lot. We had kids of our own and the kids started growing up and it...

Horror filmmaker Mike Flanagan is being honored at Fantasia International Film Festival this year with this year's 2024 Cheval Noir career award. That’s quite an honor considering he is not even 50 years old yet, and has only been making feature films since 2011.
Fantasia is bestowing the award to Flanagan “for imaginative and heartfelt horror visions; boundary-breaking achievements in making soulful, character-driven genre television commercially viable without compromises; and the extraordinary work he’s done in popularizing landmark authors to a new generation.”
Mike Flanagan is widely recognized as one of the best modern horror filmmakers of our town, thanks to films such as Absentia, Oculus, Hush, Ouija: Origin of Evil and Doctor Sleep. He is also responsible for Netflix limited series The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, Midnight Mass, The Midnight Club and The Fall of the House of Usher. The upcoming film The Life of Chuck is the latest Stephen King adaptation from Mike Flanagan, who has previously been at the helm of the Stephen King adaptations Gerald’s Game and Doctor Sleep (and is also developing a series adaptation of The Dark Tower for Amazon Studios) – but it is not a horror movie. We’ve previously heard cast member David Dastmalchian (Late Night with the Devil) describe the film as a beautiful, heartfelt drama – and now Dastmalchian’s co-star Karen Gillan (Guardians of the Galaxy) has told Movieweb that The Life of Chuck is a beautiful masterpiece.
Based on the short story from King’s 2020 anthology If It Bleeds, The Life of Chuck consists of three separate stories linked to tell the biography of Charles Krantz in reverse, beginning with his death from a brain tumor and ending with his childhood in a supposedly haunted house.

BET wants some Emmys.
In a year where major streamers and legacy networks dominate the Emmy conversations, BET Media Group, which includes BET+ and BET Studios, has had a record-breaking year for its critically acclaimed content, such as Lee Daniels’ racy sitcom “The Ms. Pat Show,” the drama thriller “Average Joe” and the dark comedy “Diarra From Detroit.” All in all, the legacy broadcast media network has submitted in over 35 Primetime Emmy categories, the most in its history.
BET+ surprised many in 2022 and 2023 when it picked up back-to-back nominations for “The Ms. Pat Show” director Mary Lou Belli. A veteran in the TV business, she’s helmed notable episodes of “Sister, Sister,” “Monk” and “NCIS.” After dropping its fourth season on May 23, Belli is up for consideration once again for the premiere episode “I’m the Pappy,” alongside co-creator and showrunner Jordan E. Cooper for “The Book of Denise” episode.

Exclusive: BET+ has picked up darkly comedic drama series Average Joe, headlined by Deon Cole, for a second season.
Created by Robb Cullen, Average Joe was released June 26, 2023 to strong reviews (86% on Rotten Tomatoes), quickly becoming the #1 scripted drama series on BET+ in its debut week.
Season 2 is slated to begin production in late 2024 in South Africa. In an unusual move for an ongoing original series on another streamer, Season 1 of Average Joe will be made available on Netflix this summer, sources said. That would give the comedic drama exposure and raise awareness ahead of its second season on BET+.
Inspired by Cullen’s life, Average Joe is set in “The Hill” district of Pittsburgh. Blue-collar plumber Joe Washington (Cole) discovers his recently deceased father lived a secret second life and stole millions of dollars from dangerous people just before he died. Now those people think Joe knows where the money is.

Filmmaker Mike Flanagan believes that “Physical media is critical,” which is not a belief that was shared by his former employers at the Netflix streaming service. Flanagan recently said that he tried very hard to get Netflix to release the work he did for them on Blu-ray and DVD, but they “refused at every turn.” But while several Flanagan projects remain on Netflix and aren’t available on physical media, he has revealed that he has taken his 2016 film Hush away from the streaming service so he can give it a long-awaited physical media release!
During an appearance at the Atx Television Festival in Austin, Texas, Flanagan said (with thanks to Slash Film for the transcription), “We took it back because I really value physical media. And Netflix, by policy, it does not work in their business plan. So we took it back. We do have a new home for it.

Mike Flanagan's popular and widely acclaimed 2016 slasher film Hush is finally getting the kind of release it deserves! After being available to stream on Netflix for several years, the streaming service removed it in 2023 after the original deal expired.
This past February, Flanagan revealed that he and his team had "opted to take the movie elsewhere" via his Tumblr. He teased a new distribution deal for the film in his post.
We recently received more information on the new deal for the slasher film, as Flanagan was in attendance at the Atx Television Festival held in Austin, Texas. SlashFilm was in attendance and got to ask Flanagan directly about Hush during "The Monologue Case Study" panel.
According to the horror director, the film will be released on Blu-ray and it will also be available to stream again soon.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the Fire Country Season 2 finale “I Do.”] The good news: The wait shouldn’t be too long to find out what’s next after a couple of cliffhangers to end Fire Country Season 2. Bode (Max Thieriot), after walking out of Gabriela’s (Stephanie Arcila) wedding to Diego (Rafael de la Fuente), turns to his uncle, Luke (Michael Trucco), in hopes he can pull strings to get him back to firefighting Asap. Manny (Kevin Alejandro), with a warrant out for his arrest, evades the law long enough to walk Gabriela down the aisle before surrendering to them. Eve (Jules Latimer), who has been crushing it as Three Rock captain lately, gets a job offer to oversee the whole program but turns it down. And Bode and Jake’s (Jordan Calloway) high school classmate, Rick (Adam Aalderks), returns to Edgewater and reveals he might be Genevieve’s biological father. [Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the Fire Country Season 2 finale “I Do.”] Bode (Max Thieriot) may not have just made the best decision to end Fire Country Season 2. Now that he’s free, he has to figure out what he wants to do with his life. A future with Gabriela (Stephanie Arcila), unfortunately, doesn’t seem to be in the (immediate) cards: She’s about to marry Diego (Rafael de la Fuente) as the season ends. Firefighting is going to take time, but to him, it’s the first healthy addiction he’s had in his life, so he goes to Luke (Michael Trucco) in the final moments to pull strings to get him back to that. Below, Thieriot breaks down the finale and teases what’s ahead in Season 3. Talk about getting into the mindset of a Bode who’s out, going to Smokey’s, making plans, figuring out his life, no longer wearing that orange…...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Fire Country Season 2 Episode 9 “No Future, No Consequences.”] On the one hand, we can understand why Manny does what he does after Kevin Alejandro‘s explanation. On the other hand, it’s still not a smart move! The penultimate episode of Fire Country Season 2 sees Manny worried for most of the episode—while fighting a campaign fire!—that his actions upon learning Luke (Michael Trucco) recommended Three Rock be shut down (he punched him and accidentally started a fire) would cost him his job. They didn’t. However, near the end of the episode, Vince (Billy Burke) calls him to inform him there’s a warrant out for his arrest, for aggravated battery and reckless endangerment. He says he’s talking to Mickey and they’ll call in every favor, but Manny still goes Mia, last seen walking down a road and not ...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Fire Country Season 2 Episode 9 “No Future, No Consequences.”] Dare we say the Leones have something to be very happy about at the end of the penultimate episode of Fire Country Season 2? It comes, of course, after Vince (Billy Burke) is nearly consumed by the flames of a campaign fire. Due to that incident, the truth about his hand tremor and heart arrhythmia does come out, but fortunately, he’s going to be fine and has admitted he needs help. Then comes some good news, followed by good news, then bad news, and then more good news in quick succession: Manny (Kevin Alejandro) won’t lose his job for punching Luke (Michael Trucco) and starting a fire upon learning the other man recommended Three Rock be shut down, the fire camp will remain open, a warrant is out for Manny’s arrest and he’s Mia, and because of his work saving his father, ...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Fire Country Season 2 Episode 8 “It’s Not Over.”] It’s a mix of good and bad news throughout the latest Fire Country, which does end with Three Rock in a better place but also with us worried about one of the Leones. The gala and attempt to impress the governor (Catherine Lough Haggquist) does end up being a success, thanks to speeches from both Eve (Jules Latimer) and Bode (Max Thieriot) and the latter being among those who leap into action when a fire breaks out. But, as everyone learns, it was actually Luke (Michael Trucco) who recommended the fire camp be shut down (for financial reasons). In other Leone family drama, Vince’s (Billy Burke) hand tremor is a serious (heart-stopping) concern, but one only Gabriela (Stephanie Arcila) knows about, and he plans to keep it that way for now as everyone’s rolling out to help with the campaign fire.
