During this year’s “Crisis on Earth-x” Arrowverse crossover event, viewers were introduced to The Ray, the metahuman superhero alter ego of Ray Terrill.
Now it’s time for The Ray to truly shine, as the center of his own, animated streaming series on CW Seed.
Premiering Friday, Dec. 8 with its first six episodes, Freedom Fighters: The Ray starts off on Earth-x, where the titular band of heroes regularly clash with the Nazi New Reichsman, who are led by Overgirl. Soon enough, harrowing events find Earth-x’s Ray (voiced by Quantico‘s Russell Tovey) passing the baton to our own...

Punching Nazis, it seems, is an American tradition on every earth. Now it's up to The Ray to carry that mantle.
Furher Oliver Queen is dead, felled by his Earth-1 doppelganger far from the dreary skies of his Nazi empire. Unfortunately for the oppressed of Earth-x, the Third Reich has a hold on power that even the Grim Reaper can't shake. Even as Ray Terrill (Russell Tovey) continues to fight the good fight in the present day, The CW Seed will get animated with his origin story.

Actor Russell Tovey ("Doctor Who") voices DC Comics' 1941 comic book superhero 'The Ray' in the CW Seed animated series "Freedom Fighters: The Ray":
"Raymond 'Ray' Terrill was a reporter who discovered a group of government scientists...
"...working on a secret project to turn light into a weapon of mass destruction.
"But before he could report on his findings, the project head exposed Ray to a 'genetic light bomb.'
"The bomb failing to kill Ray, gifted him with light-based powers.
"With these abilities, Ray realized he could go beyond reporting on injustice — he could take action to help stop it.
"Calling himself 'The Ray', he was recruited by the 'Freedom Fighters' to fight 'oppression' wherever it exists..."

We recently learned that this year’s four-way Arrowverse crossover would be “Crisis On Earth-x,” featuring the heroes of Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl uniting to take on their evil doppelgangers from Earth-x. The news about the crossover also confirmed that Barry Allen and Iris West would finally tie the knot during the event. A new set photo, however, reveals that another couple could be getting hitched at the same time.
A snap from Canadagraphs seems to depict a double wedding ceremony for Barry and Iris… and Oliver and Felicity! The Tweet confirms that this photo was taken during filming for the Legends of Tomorrow episode of the crossover, which will wrap up the storyline.

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “Twin Peaks: The Return,” Season 3, “Part 13” (Episode 13).]
No part of “Twin Peaks” is predictable, but the predominant theme of “Part 13” unveiled itself in a hurry: pie.
The delicious diner desert and its perfect beverage partner have been staples of David Lynch’s series since its inception, but rarely in “The Return” have we seen such intense focus on the healing power of a good slice and a few sips.
Cooper’s (Kyle MacLachlan) fixation on cherry pie, which already saved his life once, did so again (and from the same shop). A distraught Becky (Amanda Seyfried) calls her mother, Shelly (Madchen Amick), and the mere promise of pie turns her frown upside down. Later, Norma (Peggy Lipton) meets with Walter (Grant Goodeve) about her diner franchise’s performance, and she’s told the other pies aren’t as good as her own. Norma explains why — hers are made from all-natural ingredients — to which Walter responds, “Love doesn’t always turn a profit.

3.5 The House Of Special Purpose
The question of authenticity has hung over this season like a cloud heavy with snow. It appeared at the very beginning, in the East German cold open (which was also the first mention of Yuri Gorka, of whom more later) and the official’s laboured distinction between ‘truth’ and ‘stories’. It’s there in the hidden former life of Gloria’s stepfather (did he end his life as Ennis Stussy or was there still some Thaddeus Mobley in him?). It’s the entire business model of V.M. Varga’s outfit, which uses a legitimate business as a front to hide its unpleasant truths. The contrast between truth and fake or, more accurately, their lack of contrast is particularly prominent this week.

The original Quinn the Eskimo (no kidding) is another life-loving rough portrait from Anthony Quinn, in Nicholas Ray’s rather successful final spin as a writer-director. Despite some technical awkwardness, Ray’s sensitivity to outsider souls finds full expression. Humans don’t get any more ‘outside’ than Inuk, a primitive unequipped to deal with the modern world.

Don’t look to this noir for hardboiled cynicism – for his first feature Nicholas Ray instead gives us a dose of fatalist romance. Transposed from the previous decade, a pair of fugitives takes what happiness they can find, always aware that a grim fate waits ahead. The show is a career-making triumph and a real classic from Rko — which shelved it for more than a year.

A killer book (Dog Soldiers) must hide behind a Credence Clearwater tune. Karel Reisz’s killer movie about the moral residue of Vietnam scores as both drama and action, as disillusioned counterculture smugglers versus corrupt narcotics cops. Just don’t expect it to really have much to say about the Vietnam experience. But hey, the cast is tops — Nick Nolte, Richard Masur, Anthony Zerbe — and the marvelous Tuesday Weld is even better as a pill-soaked involuntary initiate into the pre- War On Drugs smuggling scene.

Elle Fanning’s Awful Hair In ‘3 Generations’ Is Why Cisgender Actors Shouldn’t Play Trans Characters
The Weinstein Company, and Harvey Weinstein in particular, is notorious for using unconventional tactics to promote its films; he flew Daniel Day-Lewis to D.C. to support the Americans with Disabilities Act during the Oscar campaign for “My Left Foot,” and paraded Martin Scorsese around at a Women In Film luncheon to prove “Gangs of New York” wasn’t too violent.
While “3 Generations” likely won’t be earning Oscar noms, Weinstein did score (orchestrate?) a flurry of good press when the MPAA gave the transgender drama an R rating, citing language and sexual references in its decision. GLAAD sent the MPAA an angry letter; Naomi Watts gave an impassioned statement about the “beautiful and touching story,” and the MPAA changed the rating to PG-13. And for one brief and shining moment, nobody talked about how awful the movie was. (Current Rotten Tomatoes: 35%.)

Tensions rise between Emmit and Ray, though (unbeknownst to one another) both brothers have far larger problems to deal with on Fargo Season 3 Episode 2.
Also, Nikki left a used tampon in Emmit's desk drawer. So there's that.
"The Principle of Restricted Choice" found the narrative sectioned off in three separate portions – Gloria's story, Ray's story, and Emmit's story.
Much like the first two seasons of the series, I'm guessing that as the season progresses, the three distinct plots will come closer and closer, intersecting and eventually condensing into one.
Gloria's main concern was investigating her stepfather's murder. They're pretty clear on the how (asphyxiation via glue) but it's the why and the whodunnit that's a mystery.
Gloria: They glued his nose and mouth shut. Are we thinking cause of death is somehow a cliffhanger?
Donny: Guess not.

Emmit is like the Don Corleone of Minnesota: a dashing, ultra-successful real estate tycoon ducking out of his own party to take closed-door business meetings. Ray, on the other hand, is a balding, paunchy parole officer who’s forced to humble himself and ask...

Most showrunners have their own particular ways of coming up with storylines or charting full seasons for returning series. For Noah Hawley, the process usually starts with taking a nap. "It's kind of always been like this," he says sheepishly, calling in from a chilly set in Calgary, Alberta. "I mean, what became Fargo started when I lied down one afternoon while I was writing and dreamed about two men, one civilized and one not, meeting in an emergency room. For the second season, same thing – only it was a...

The MPAA gave ‘3 Generations’ an R-rating and The Weinstein Company isn’t having it.3 Generations
The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) decided that the Weinstein Company’s film 3 Generations deserves an R-rating. The MPAA claims that strong language and sexual references mean that the film isn’t suitable for younger viewers without parental consent. However, the Weinstein Company claims the rating would bar a necessary film from reaching a broad audience.
3 Generations tells the story of Ray (Elle Fanning) a transgender teenager. In the film, Ray and his mother Maggie (Naomi Watts) must search for Ray’s father to obtain consent for Ray to start his transition. Meanwhile, Ray’s grandmother (Susan Sarandon) struggles to accept Ray’s transformation from granddaughter to grandson.
Director and co-writer Gaby Dellal emphasized that she “[wanted] to speak to kids, to parents, and to grandparents everywhere in a common language of love and inclusion about a subject matter that is not...

This is an odd episode of Girls that throws characters together unexpectedly and ends up being half upbeat and half super, super sad.
The upbeat half involves Ray and, completely out of nowhere, Shoshanna’s former boss, Abigail (Aidy Bryant). This is a character I can’t say I ever thought about much or expected to ever see again, so that she showed up and then had an instant connection with Ray is quite the weird surprise. The plot wasn’t all that exciting just because I have so few feelings about Abigail’s character (I mean,...

There's some supernatural activity happening on the mountain.
It's been hinted at in the past, but Outsiders Season 2 Episode 8 confirmed it. Here I was, thinking G'Win was going to be the latest casualty before the hour was over.
Physically and emotionally, she was done earlier in the episode. She was practically handing her title over to Foster while making him promise to keep the darkness at bay.
G'win: Foster, listen to me. When I go, that oak will be yours again, and you have changed. I've seen it, but the darkness is still there, too. So, I'm afraid Foster, that if you lead us again, more blood will be spilled. So, promise me. When that oak is in your hand, that you will keep the darkness at bay.
Foster: Well, don't go and I won't have to.
G'Win: Promise me, Foster.

Things are finally kicking into high gear as Girls heads into the second half of its final season.
Girls Season 6 Episode 4 was a fairly standard installment of the series – until its final moments, when something huge and unexpected was revealed.
That's right, kids – Hannah Horvath is pregnant. And the father is Paul-Louis, the rapping surf instructor we (and Hannah) met on the Girls Season 6 Premiere.
And the person to deliver the big news was none other than Joshua, the hot doctor that Hannah once hooked up with way back on Girls Season 2 Episode 5, "One Man's Trash."
If there's one thing I love the most about Girls Season 6 so far, it's all of the callbacks to the show's earlier seasons.
I would never in a million years have expected to see Joshua, a relatively unimportant one-time guest star character, again. But his return didn't feel forced or intrusive. It was perfectly awkward and random,...

Thou shall not kill. Boring.
Then again, on DC's Legends of Tomorrow Season 2 Episode 12, that whole not killing thing got a little murky. Who don't the Legends kill? Each other? Because they had no problem mowing down a bunch of knights in 507.
When I started thinking about it, they get into a lot of battles and mow down strangers quite often in big battle formation. I don't think I'm keen on their rules.
We're back into the phase of Legends where we get moments that are enjoyable and have to suffer through plodding plot points.
Rip's return has been a drag. That's not entirely true. His 60s personality as Phil was kind of cool and might have been interesting to have along for the ride.
As a whiny, screaming baby afraid of much, he could have made time travel a gas.

Guys, you have to Google "polyembolokoilamania," stat. I dare you.
Well, only if you're a huge medical nerd. Not only did Chicago Med Season 2 Episode 12 finally deliver on a story about foreign objects inserted into *ahem* orifices (a staple of the medical genre), but we all learned a really cool vocabulary word to describe it.
While Choi tackled the dangerous twist on a common problem, there were several rare cases for the rest of the team to handle. Mirror synesthesia and situs invertus are both pretty rare; what are the odds an ER would see a case of each on the same day?
I shouldn't have been surprised that the headline case was approached so seriously since the foreign object in question was a loaded gun, but other shows have trained me to see these cases as amusing not dire. As have real world docs who write about the not so uncommon phenomenon.

Legends of Tomorrow returned from its winter break on a new night and time but that didn't stop the fun this show has created. Legends of Tomorrow ended is winter break with a bombshell that Rip Hunter has now become a movie director in the late 1960's. With the first half of the season without Rip it seemed the team had accepted the fact that Rip was gone. Little did they know that he was directing a movie with film icon George Lucas as his prop master. While the focus of this episode was split into two stories, both were highly entertaining.
Below are the three takeaways from last nights episode
1. All of the Star Wars and Indiana Jones references and jokes were great. It was also great to see how much of an impact Star Wars and Indiana Jones on Nate and Ray to make them forget their areas of expertise.

Michael Mann is never quite finished with his movies. “Thief,” “Manhunter,” and “The Last Of The Mohicans” have all been issued in director’s cuts, and last year, Mann overhauled “Blackhat” and presented a significantly changed new edit at Bam Rose Cinemas (there’s still no word on if this version will ever see the light of day on home video or streaming).

Four out of five isn't bad. In fact, it's fantastic.
That's the excellent episodes over the average so far during during Legends' sophomore season, and DC's Legends of Tomorrow Season 2 Episode 5 can be added into the rollicking good time column. What a win!
We were ripped off on the brief DC's Legends of Tomorrow Season 1 foray into the '80s, but not this time. Not only did we get fun references and outfits, but we now have a near perfect team to carry out the missions and bring all these decades to life.
Legends was given four additional episodes to its current season for a total of 17. That's good, because "Compromised" finally began building the Legion of Doom.
Considering how long it's taking, I'm beginning to suspect the Legion itself will not be the big bad as much as the creation of it will be happening in conjunction with the...

Where did it all go wrong for Ray Donovan?
Ray Donovan Season 4 Episode 10 was pretty much all about Hector and Marisol, and it was a drag. Giving these two characters so much screen time really ruined the hour.
There's just no redeeming either character at this stage, so I dare say the powers that be wanted rid of the characters due to the negative feedback about them.
You only have to take one look at the social media pages for the show to find out just how hated the characters are. It's not that I have anything against the actors. It's simply down to the fact that neither character has ever been fleshed out fully.
Why should we care about either character when they're both as flawed as one another with no redemption in sight?
Hector's relationship with his sister was never conventional. It's almost like the plot was thrown...

Would Ray Donovan really kill off Lena or Avi?
That thought was toyed with on Ray Donovan Season 4 Episode 9 and it made for a very unsettling hour of television.
Let's chat about the Russians descending on Ray's stomping ground. It was inevitable, but watching it all go down was somewhat exciting.
For too long, Ray has been getting away with every crazy decision he makes, so it was thrilling for the tables to turn on him.
Sonia was a great character with many layers. Throughout Ray Donovan Season 4, she's been such a strong character that gets stuff done. She never let her illness hold her back.
It was a complete 180 for her to actually be frightened of Dimitri. She's been so sure of everything thus far. Ray really didn't think through killing Belikov a few weeks back.

DC's The Ray is coming to CW Seed in a new series called Freedom Fighters: The Ray from Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim. This incarnation of the hero will be inspired by Grant Morrison’s new take on the character from his Multiversity comic, and "will introduce the first gay Super Hero to lead a show." We don't know for sure which other DC characters will be joining Terrill on his adventures, but The Phantom Lady and Black Condor, at least, can be glimpsed on the official artwork. "Raymond 'Ray' Terrill was a reporter who discovered a group of government scientists working on a secret project to turn light into a weapon of mass destruction. 1.13: Leviathan
After twelve episodes spent flitting around trying to stop Vandal Savage’s rise to power, Rip Hunter and The Waverider crew have now decided to confront him right at the last minute – mere days before he murders Rip’s wife and child – instead.
