- In August 2008, had part of his right leg amputated due to bone cancer. The prosthetic leg that he wore was crimson, a school color of the University of Oklahoma.
- His father, Louis Tisdale, was a well-known pastor in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The Osage Expressway in Tulsa was named L. L. Tisdale Parkway in his honor after he died in 1997. Older brother Weldon took over as pastor of the church.
