Don't look for a third season of Helix on Syfy. The cable channel has cancelled the thriller series after two seasons and 26 episodes.
Helix follows a team of scientists from the Centers for Disease Control who travel to the Arctic. They find themselves pulled into a terrifying life-and-death struggle that could decide the future of humankind. The cast includes Billy Campbell, Kyra Zagorsky, Mark Ghanimé, Jordan Hayes, Neil Napier, Matt Long, Steven Weber, Jim Thorburn, and Christina Rosato.
The series debuted in January of 2014 and drew positive numbers for the cable channel. The first season ended up averaging a 0.45 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 1.39 million viewers.

Helix dishes out more zero-impact twists and nonsensical developments in its season two finale...
This review contains spoilers.
2.13 O Brave New World
Have you ever turned up late to a restaurant, and they begrudgingly served you, but explained that the menu is ‘limited’? And, when the food turns up there’s a completely mismatched set of items on it that aren’t well cooked, presented or remotely appetising?
That’s O Brave New World in a nutshell, because what was presented as the finale of this season's Helix, and probably the show, was mostly the offcuts that get pushed around the plate, never to be consumed.
Based on the whole new levels of bad that the season sank to, I wasn’t expecting anything that wonderful, but the writing in this episode well and truly stuck a finger up to those glutton for punishment enough (or commercially contracted) to watch it.

Last year, Helix did pretty well in the ratings so Syfy renewed it for a second season. Will the ratings rise or fall this time around? Cancelled or renewed for season three? Stay tuned.

The ratings are typically the best indication of a show's likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings, the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available. (more…)...

[Editor's note: Meh, slow news day...]
Fear Island originally made headlines last year when it was announced that it would topline Haylie Duff, that older less famous sister to Hilary. While I point that fact out for context, it's not why you're seeing it here. Deep Cove may not be the most original horror film to date (read: teens, spring break, cabin-in-the-woods, revenge killings etc), it's a nifty indie from Canadian production company, Waterfront, so we want to support them.
Synopsis:
Five students on spring break meet at a secluded island cabin for a weekend getaway. After a night of music, drinking and getting re-acquainted the five friends are shocked to find the cabin's caretaker murdered and the only boat off the island gone. Stranded on the island they become the prey of a mysterious killer who seems bent on revenge for something the friends have done. They must defend themselves and find their tormentor or face death one by one.
