This interview does not contain major spoilers for Archer: Into the Cold but does tease certain moments.
It’s not the norm for an animated series to last for 14 seasons and nearly 150 episodes, and yet Archer has gone out with gumption, grace, and gravitas. The animated spy satire has gone through many facelifts over the years — including several “coma seasons” that transformed the espionage series into a film noir, adventure serial, and space opera — only to return to spy antics with greater confidence than ever. It may feel like Archer has done everything at this point, but the show is finally ready for its biggest challenge yet: an ending.
Archer: Into the Cold is a super-sized series finale that ends the long-running comedy on the high note that it deserves. Archer’s collective brain trust, executive producers Casey Willis, Matt Thompson, and producer Pierre Cerrato, get candid on bringing this...

Adam Reed was searching for inspiration. He’d just sold his stake in the production company he co-founded, 70/30 Productions — responsible for his animated series Sealab 2021 and Frisky Dingo — and fled to Europe, to embark on what he calls a “pilgrimage.” One day during his expedition, he was idling at a café in Salamanca, Spain, and observed a group of stunning women. He wondered who could possibly have the courage to approach them. And then, all of a sudden, a suave fellow sat down at the table, ordered a...

Jon Benjamin as the world’s greatest spy, “Sterling Archer;” Aisha Tyler as the spy with marital troubles, “Lana Kane;” Judy Greer as the crazy office assistant in search of a special skill, “Cheryl/Carol Tunt;” Chris Parnell as the reliable company-man, “Cyril Figgis;” Amber Nash as the enthusiastic offender,...

There is a new way for fans of Archer who have Spectrum cable but not Hulu to watch the Fxx animated series’ 14th and final season. The Emmy-winning comedy has expanded the availability of its current 14th season by making episodes available post-premiere on VOD systems for the FX and Fxx linear channels.
The issue arose after the new agreement between Disney and Spectrum parent Charter, which came together after 10 days of interrupted carriage, included the drop of eight Disney ad-supported cable networks, including Fxx and Fxm, from Spectrum platforms. As Deadline reported last week, FX brass were looking for solutions on Archer, which was seriously impacted as its final season had just premiered when the Disney networks went dark on Spectrum systems on Aug. 31.

Before they even knew they’d be picked up again at FX, Archer had already begun production for season 14. Chris Parnell confirmed earlier this year that the cast had been recording their voice-overs, although they hadn’t been given an official greenlight. Well, suit up. FX has just announced the premiere dates for their upcoming slate of returning series and according to The Hollywood Reporter, Archer will not only be returning for a fourteenth season, but it will be the last.
The animated spy comedy is set to make its return on August 30 and will be starting its swan song with two episodes starting at 10 p.m., and both will be available the following day on Hulu. Even for animated shows that seemingly never end, the end eventually does, indeed, come. As evidence of that fact, Fxx has announced that "Archer," the long-running animated series centered on super spy Sterling Archer, is concluding its run. The network has announced a premiere date for season 14 later this summer, and it has been confirmed that this will be the last ride for Sterling, Lana, and the gang. Get ready to say your goodbyes.
"Archer" season 14 will premiere on August 30, 2023, on Fxx, with a two-episode premiere. The episodes will be available to stream the next day on Hulu. No word yet on a specific episode count for the final season, but the previous three seasons have been limited to eight episodes, as opposed to seasons 2 through 6, which had 13 episodes. “Archer” will end with its upcoming 14th season at Fxx.

FX’s long-running animated series “Archer” is finally coming to an end. The network announced on Monday that Season 14 of the show, which premieres on August 30 on Fxx and streams the next day on Hulu, will be its last.
No additional information about the show’s conclusion was given.
Created by Adam Reed, “Archer” premiered in 2009 as a riff on the James Bond archetype with H. Jon Benjamin’s suave but dumb Sterling Archer running various missions as part of his mother’s wildly dysfunctional intelligence agency.
After the first four seasons, the show started reinventing itself with themed seasons starting with Season 5’s “Archer Vice,” complete with 1980s aesthetics. Other seasons saw the crew on the run, in a full-on noir and in outer space. There was seemingly no end to where “Archer” could go.

The series: "Frisky Dingo"
Where you can stream it: HBO Max and Adultswim.com (with a cable login)
The pitch: Before going on to make the wildly popular spy spoof series "Archer" on FX, Adam Reed teamed up his "Sealab 2021" co-creator Matt Thompson to create "Frisky Dingo," a bizarre animated comedy spoofing superheroes and villains, American politics, and celebrity culture. A warning: the series debuted on Adult Swim in 2006, airing late at night, and it did just about everything possible to push the envelope, so some of the jokes have aged pretty poorly. However, if you can look past a few gags that absolutely wouldn't fly in 2022 (and for good reason), "Frisky Dingo" is a wildly funny and oddly prescient little cartoon,...

Archer Season 12 ended with a certified tear-jerker of a tribute to the late Jessica Walter. The cast and executive producers of the Fxx hit animated comedy sat down with Emily Aslanian at the TV Insider and TV Guide Magazine studio, sponsored by Hollywood unBranded, during San Diego Comic-Con 2022 to chat about the show, kicking things off with the story of how Walter’s Archer tribute came to be. “Casey [Willis] and I had planned out that finale way in advance, because Jessica passed in the middle of the season,” Matt Thompson said of the touching moment. “And so, we had to reorganize the season to where you felt like she was in the episodes, but we actually kind of retro-scripted them. And then, we had an early idea for the finale, and that came together really nicely.” “I knew it was hitting the right tone that we wanted to hit when I described it to someone,...

Imagine, if you will, a massive Venn diagram with aquatic salamanders, lesser-known passages from Revelations, “The Last House on the Left,” fried pork byproducts, and hot air balloons.
We can’t definitively state that Season 2 of the Fxx series “Dicktown” is the lone inhabitant of that sliver in the middle, but it’s almost certainly the only animated detective show that also has an impish parody of Tintin arriving with fanfare at the heart of its sophomore season.

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia recently finished its 15th season and Archer is going into its 13th season.
However, neither show is heading toward the end of its line, according to FX Entertainment President Eric Schrier.
Sunny, which with its latest season beat the record for longest running live-action comedy, bypassing The Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet, was renewed for multiple seasons in December 2020, taking it through to its 18th season.
FX Networks @ TCA: Deadline’s Complete Coverage
“It’s interesting with that show,” Schrier told Deadline. “The guys have been doing it for so long. As long as they feel that they creatively can maintain its vibrancy, they want to continue to do it. Creatively, the show is excellent, and we think the last season was as strong as ever. The fans love the show, so we’ll keep going as long as as they want to keep it going.

Archer will continue its long-running stretch.
Fxx has renewed the animated comedy for a 13th season. The Disney-owned network will launch the eight-episode run in 2022, and like its current 12th season will premiere on Fxx and be available to stream the next day on FX on Hulu.
It comes as the 12th season – the show’s last featuring the voice talent of the late Jessica Walter as Archer’s mother and spymaster Malory Archer – continues on the network.
FX Networks chairman John Landgraf told Deadline earlier this summer that he was “optimistic” that the show would return.
The series follows Sterling Archer as he navigates the changing landscape of the spy world. In the current season, Archer and gang face a new threat: a spy conglomerate known as Iia (International Intelligence Agency). This article contains spoilers for Archer season 12 episode 1.
After eleven seasons, over 100 episodes, and four radical reinventions, Archer has become one of the most ambitious and respected animated series of its generation. The show has elevated itself to something greater than a (hilarious) parody of the spy genre and has slowly allowed both itself and its characters to evolve in fascinating ways. Around these massive changes, Archer has never lost sight of itself. Its core sensibility and acerbic characters never falter.
Twelve seasons in, Archer has returned to a relative place of normalcy. Season 11 brought Sterling Archer back to reality from his coma, but season 12 is where the harsh ways of the world really begin to set back in. Archer himself may have his groove back, but his team is still in a highly unstable place and this season presents a version of them that are more vulnerable than ever before.

I think there was a question whether we could maintain the creative excellence on that show, and we have,” Eric Schrier, President of FX Entertainment, said in an interview with Deadline during the network’s portion of the summer virtual TCA press tour. “I think Covid slowed everything down — everything got slower and harder — but the show continues to be excellent.”
He noted that the the creative team “are...

America: The Motion Picture is a blockbuster animated comedy available on Netflix now. The raucously hilarious patriotic satire features a completely ridiculous and nonsensical account of the American Revolutionary War, where George Washington, Sam Adams, Thomas Edison, Paul Revere, Geronimo and John Henry team up to take on Benedict Arnold (who just so happens to […]

This article contains light spoilers for America: The Motion Picture.
Director Matt Thompson has been in the adult animated comedy game for a long time. Thompson was around for the dawn of Adult Swim in 2001 when the programming block hosted Sealab 2021, the series he created alongside frequent collaborator Adam Reed. Reed and Thompson would go on to produce several other animated classics including Frisky Dingo and Archer (which is set to premiere its 12th season later this year).
Still, when it came time to direct his first feature animated film, Netflix’s America: The Motion Picture, the seasoned vet realized that movies are a unique beast.
“(With films) you get a lot more time to sit and try to make things funnier, to make more jokes,” Thompson says. “When you’re on a very tight deadline of episodic television, you kind of have to kick stuff out and move forward.

Reimagining the founding of America as a bro-fest that takes every historic moment from the last 250 or so years and crams them together, forgoing any sense of temporal progression or reason, Matt Thompson’s animated film“America: The Motion Picture,” now on Netflix, is an occasionally funny, but ultimately overlong slog that never really is as clever as it thinks it is. Foregrounding a friendship between muscle-bound idiot George Washington (Channing Tatum) and level-headed revolutionary Abraham Lincoln (Will Forte), Thompson’s film adapts a see-what-sticks approach, throwing out a joke every few seconds, some of which are entertaining enough, but still, leave the film’s batting average well below .500.

Photo: ‘America: The Motion Picture’/Netflix’ Home of The Brave New to Netflix this week from director Matt Thompson, producer of the hit animated series ‘Archer’, comes ‘America: The Motion Picture’, an animated comedy/political satire on, what else but, the founding of the United States of America. The film follows a chainsaw-wielding George Washington as he assembles a team of exaggerated historical figures to take down the tyrannical King James in this very historically inaccurate take on the American Revolution. The film pairs an A-list cast including the talents of Channing Tatum and Olivia Munn with expert filmmakers such as Phil Lord and Chris Miller, producers of ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’. America’s creation myths may not be entirely rooted in fact — few of us still believe the story about George Washington chopping down that cherry tree — but they’re considerably less outlandish than “America: The Motion Picture,” an animated comedy in which our first president is a chainsaw-wielding freedom fighter who founds America to avenge the murder of his best friend, Abraham Lincoln. If that timeline seems impossible, that’s because it is — not that this “Adult Swim”-esque cartoon cares. Directed by Matt Thompson and counting Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and “Archer” creator Adam Reed among its producers, the film brings an anarchic energy to the story of how many become one.

“America: The Motion Picture,” Netflix’s first R-rated animated feature, offers a satirical, revisionist reworking of the American Revolution, in which a chainsaw-wielding George Washington (voiced by Channing Tatum) fights the British with a merry band of Colonial misfits to avenge the death of his Bff, Abe Lincoln (voiced by Will Forte). They include beer-worshiping Sam Adams (Jason Mantzoukas), gender-bending science wiz Thomas Edison (Olivia Munn), “horse-racist” Paul Revere (Bobby Moynihan), one-armed Apache leader Geronimo (Raoul Trujillo), and handy blacksmith John Henry (Killer Mike).
It’s like an absurd 2D cross between “Archer” and “Clone High,” which isn’t surprising, since it’s directed by “Archer” producer Matt Thompson and produced by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who are rebooting “Clone High” for HBO Max, while writing and producing “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2,” which is co-written by “America” scribe Dave Callaham (Marvel’s “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings...

In the United States, what we teach as history and historical accuracy is somehow a hot button issue right now. Ignorant, enraged, and overwhelmingly white parents are shaking in their boots at the thought that their children may learn some hard truths about American history—that our nation was not always the moral, perpetual Good Guy badass that we present ourselves as. If these outraged, analphabetic reactionaries had it their way, we’d likely be teaching America: The Motion Picture as 100 percent fact in every red state public school across the country.
From executive producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller and director Matt Thompson (Archer), America: The Motion Picture is a gory, loud, and exceedingly stupid animated comedy that stretches the one-note joke of “what if the Founding Fathers were dude-bros?” into a numbing 98 minutes. In Season 11 “Archer,” Fxx’s Emmy-winning, adult animated sitcom, returned to the world of spies after a genre-hopping, delirious, three-year coma. But, of course, Sterling Archer’s (H. Jon Benjamin) return to consciousness was a shock to his overblown ego. He was suddenly like a fish out of water — out of sync, out of shape, and even more clueless — trying to cope with the fact that his dysfunctional colleagues were more efficient without him.
At the same time, the Atlanta-based Floyd County Productions had to make some adjustments as well. Creator Adam Reed stepped further into the background after providing the premise to pursue other projects, which gave more creative control to executive producers Casey Willis and Matt Thompson, who also directed the Sony/Netflix animated feature, “America: The Motion Picture,” produced by “Spider-Verse’s” Phil Lord and Chris Miller. If no distributor can ever handpick its audience, once Netflix sent its ribald and irreverent reframing of the U.S.’ foundational myth to the French animation festival, the streamer certainly came awfully close.
Produced by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller and directed by “Archer” producer Matt Thompson, the decidedly hard-r “America: The Motion Picture” played to a room primed to react when it screened in France as part of Annecy’s Midnight Specials sidebar this past Friday.
Though the film played to a room at 65% capacity and at 8:30 pm rather than at midnight, you can blame French Covid-19 restrictions for that. Whatever the case, the audience was surprisingly mixed in both gender and generation, and seemed to generally be in tune with the film that begins with Abraham Lincoln being mauled by a werewolf Benedict Arnold, in case you wondered about historical verisimilitude.
“I enjoyed it,” Sarah, 34, told Variety as the screening let out.

"I'm George Washington. Let's go start a f*&!ing revolution!" Time to celebrate 'Merica! Netflix dropped an official trailer for the animated comedy America: The Motion Picture, from Matt Thompson. In this wildly tongue-in-cheek animated revisionist history, a chainsaw-wielding George Washington assembles a team of rabble rousers — including beer-loving bro Sam Adams, famed scientist Thomas Edison, acclaimed horseman Paul Revere, and a pissed off Geronimo — to defeat Benedict Arnold and King James in the American Revolution. Who will win? No one knows, but you can be sure of one thing: these are not your father's Founding... uh, Fathers. This stars "America's sweethearts" Channing Tatum (as G.W.), Jason Mantzoukas, Olivia Munn, Judy Greer, Bobby Moynihan (as Paul), Raoul Max Trujillo (as Geronimo), Killer Mike, Andy Samberg, Will Forte, and Simon Pegg (as King James). This looks totally insane in the best of ways. Can't wait to watch this and laugh my ass off.

Netflix has released a ridiculous trailer for its star-studded animated comedy “America: The Motion Picture,” which stars Channing Tatum as the voice of a beefed-up and vulgar George Washington in a satirical take on the American Revolution. The movie hails from “Archer” producer Matt Thompson, who directs a script by “Wonder Woman” writer Dave Callahan. With Tatum in an executive producer role alongside partner Reid Carolin as well as Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the wacky historical comedy is sure to be a hit with its target audience.

Archer is back in the real world after spending its previous three seasons in a coma and the animated spy’s recovery is set to extend for a 12th season.
Fxx has renewed the show for another run in 2021. The 11th season launched on September 16 and the cable network said ratings for total viewers were up 32% from the previous season with 2.43M total viewers per episode across linear and digital.
The half-hour comedy follows Sterling Archer, who this season is out of his coma, having spent the last three seasons in 1940s noir Los Angeles, 1938 South Pacific and outer space.
While many things changed during his absence, Archer is confident it will take just a little time for him to reset things back to the old ways. The problem: does the rest of the team want that?

“Dicktown” is a perfect title, even if without context you may never guess that the animated series it belongs to follows a pair of detectives investigating the mysteries of their chosen client base: North Carolina teenagers.
The title refers to a nickname for Richardsville, a Tar Heel State town that might be fictional in this telling, but is rooted in the combined experiences and fascinations of its two writers and creators: John Hodgman and David Rees.
In “Dicktown” (the featured Season 3 presentation of the brilliantly eccentric Fxx anthology shorts collection “Cake”), John Hunchman (Hodgman) is the former precocious boy detective still puzzling out amateur-level jobs, while David Purefoy (Rees) is the former bully who’s now his partner in crime-solving.

“Archer,” the Emmy-winning comedy series, is returning to Fxx. The 11th season will premiere two back-to-back episodes on Wednesday, Sept. 16 at 10 p.m. Pt/Et.
“Archer” is an animated, half-hour comedy that follows eight dysfunctional spies of the International Secret Intelligence Service (Isis), a fictional New York-based intelligence agency. The team is led by Sterling Archer, voiced by H. Jon Benjamin, who returns to the scene after a three-year coma. Previous seasons have reimagined the core cast as stock characters from a noir film, following the team’s mission in a remote South Pacific island in 1939 and in a retro-futuristic outer space.
“Archer” was conceived by creator Adam Reed following the cancellation of his Adult Swim series “Frisky Dingo.” The dark comedy draws inspiration from the James Bond franchise, referencing heavy humor and meta-comedy. There have been 110 episodes broadcast in the show’s history.

When working in animation, if not television in general, producers get used to dealing with problems. Script changes, talent availability, technical issues — no matter what it is, it’s always something.
But today’s recurring surprises stem from novel circumstances, and for the ever-hilarious “Archer” team, such unprecedented challenges call for unprecedented jokes. “Every other day, some sort of giant problem crops up because of working from home and coronavirus and whatever,” executive producer Casey Willis said. “So we have a [running] joke: ‘What’s that? Willis, executive producer Matt Thompson, and many more artisans are still hard at work to complete “Archer” Season 11. The latest from FX’s Emmy-winning team was scheduled to debut in May, before the pandemic delayed (or shut down) a majority of ongoing productions.
