Set and shot north of Barcelona in Manresa, “You Would Do It Too,” from David Victori, is a lightning-fast eight-part half-hour thriller following a bus heist gone awry. Written and directed by Victori, it is also the first Spanish production resulting from an alliance struck between Legendary Television and Spain’s Espotlight Media.
Victori will travel to Miami and speak at the New Talent Modela panel at Content Americas on Jan. 25 as Legendary Television, who hold worldwide rights, aim to close a deal for Latin America off the Miami conference.
Also created by Victori, the series will debut exclusively on Disney+ in Spain. Anne Thomopoulos (Legendary) and Anxo Rodríguez (Espotlight) co-produce the series, which is a natural next step for a director who has been building a canon of thrillers through the years.

Entertainment Master Class (Emc), established in 2005 as a new platform for peer-to-peer TV industry education, has launched the Showrunner Society, a hybrid online/in-person community for showrunners and media executives. The first face-to-face masterclass is planned for this summer, hosted in Germany with supported from film funding agency Film- und Medienstiftung Nrw.
Described by Emd as “a new way for experienced writers and writing producers to learn the craft of Showrunning,” the platform was designed as a transmedia experience offering users the opportunity to meet and interact with established showrunners from their own regions and from around the world.
In addition to a wide-reaching range of online offerings, the jewel in the Showrunner Society’s crown will be its annual four-day, in-person Showrunning Masterclass where a small group of experienced writers, directors, producers and executives will be joined by showrunners from around the world for a series of mentoring sessions and potential shadowing opportunities.

Epix has put four scripted projects into development including a pair of comedies with one starring A Fish Called Wanda star Kevin Kline.
Kline is to star in American Classic, which would mark the actor’s second TV project if it goes to series. He recently signed up to star alongside Cate Blanchett in Alfonso Cuarón’s Disclaimer for Apple.
In the half-hour American Classic, Kline plays Broadway star and notorious narcissist Richard Bean, who suffers a spectacular public meltdown and returns to his tiny hometown and the family-run theater where he first became aware of his own brilliance.
When he arrives, he is shocked to discover that his father, the former artistic director, has slipped into a puppet-filled dementia, and that the once-respected theater run by his brother, played by The Closer’s Jon Tenney, and his wife, who is now the town’s mayor, has become, by necessity,...

Production heavyweights from international markets converged on Monday afternoon to talk talent as part of Ventana Sur’s SoloSerieS. Moderated by Paula Cobo, content and sales manager at ESPotlight, the digital panel also relied on the expertise of Jacobo Aparicio, co-ordinator of international TV and film at Anonymous Content, Nick Lafferty, a scripted global TV agent with Creative Artists Agency, Anxo Rodriguez, agent and director with Alter Ego Talent House, and Anne Thomopoulos, an executive producer with Legendary Global.
Cobo spoke to the nature of an ever-changing industry and prodded her contemporaries to delve into how the treatment of creators has evolved in recent years. Panelists noted the increased support of talent, especially in-territory, something they credit to the advent of streaming services that allow for greater cross-border reach.

It’s “Squid Game’s” world, and we’re just living in it.
That was one takeaway from a wide-ranging conversation held during Rome’s Mia Market on Saturday, as top independent producers met to assess the state of international drama and explore how hit series like Netflix’s Korean phenomenon are rewriting the rules of the game.
From heated competition between new and established streaming platforms to increasingly complicated rights deals to skyrocketing demand for non-English-language content, it’s a landscape that looks unrecognizable from even just a few years ago. Yet that’s opened the door for innovation – and more opportunities than ever before.
“The industry is ripe for disruption,” said Erik Barmack, CEO and founder of Wild Sheep Content. “I do think the room for independent producers is only going to grow.”

Black Box, ABC‘s latest drama, feels a lot like a show created by committee, and constructed largely by piecing together ratings research of plot and character points. A little bit House, a hint of Grey’s Anatomy, and a heaping dose of the hokey, “we’re calling you stupid,” plot construction of Scandal… et voilà. Of course, if those last two are among your favorite shows, welcome to your new obsession.
Dr. Catherine Black (Kelly Reilly) is the world’s most impressive and important neurologist… or whatever. She’s so cool that she has her own facility in New York City. Known as “The Cube,” it’s all neurology, all the time, and Dr. Black runs the show. But,...

One Three Media, reality heavyweight Mark Burnett’s joint venture with Hearst, is expanding into scripted television. It has hired HBO veteran Anne Thomopoulos to start a new scripted division for drama series and miniseries and run it. Thomopoulos has executive produced such series/miniseries as Rome, Camelot and Generation Kill as well as Tom Fontana’s European-financed and produced Borgia, on whose second season season she is working at the moment. “Our scripted division will be producing domestically and internationally, using both traditional models and new business models,” Thomopoulos said. Burnett’s first scripted project through his new company, a 10-hour miniseries for History based on the Bible that he’s executive producing alongside his wife Touched By An Angel star Roma Downey, is currently in production for a spring 2013 premiere. HBO and BBC2 have locked arms in order to bring about a miniseries based on the historical novel, I, Claudius. BBC already created a 13-part miniseries in 1976, but this new adaptation will have nothing to with the original mini, completely basing itself on the book. Attached to the project are Jane Tranter and Anne Thomopoulos, who executive produced the HBO series Rome.
The book told the story Claudius, who feigned handicap in the form of a stutter and a limp in order to be underestimated by the people of Rome. Because he was no real threat, he watched as all those around him were assassinated, and then when he was the last man standing he became emperor. No doubt this will make for a great series on HBO and will require quite a talented actor to portray Claudius in both his handicapped and normal forms.

Let all the poisons that lurk in the mud hatch out.
HBO is going to bring back the great historical novel I, Claudius by Robert Graves' into a brand new series, led by Rome producers Jane Tranter and Anne Thomopoulos.
The story tells a rather fascinating account of old Rome, from the time of great Augustus to that of Claudius, all told from the narrated perspective of an elderly Claudius. The series was once adapted before in a rather excellent mini-series for PBS, and was originally aired in 1976.
If this adaptation is anything like the 1976 version, prepare for something extraordinary. I can't recommend the original series enough - it is historically fascinating, full of intrigue, drama, murder, war - and strangely enough, a dark and healthy wit. John Hurt as Caligula was a particularly memorable highlight. You can also catch a very young Patrick Stewart, playing the very ambitious...

Exclusive: HBO has teamed with BBC2 to acquire the rights to turn the Robert Graves historical novel I, Claudius into a miniseries. The mini will be exec produced by BBC Worldwide Productions' Jane Tranter and Anne Thomopoulos, who were executives producers of HBO's Rome. The deal ends a long series of twists and turns for the rights to a book that was previously turned into an Emmy-winning 13-part miniseries in 1976 by BBC. In that mini, Derek Jacobi turned in the role of a career as Claudius. The book and mini gave a glimpse into the power, madness, murder, backstabbing and debauchery that was part and parcel of ruling-class Rome. It is seen through the eyes of Claudius, who was content to be the butt of jokes and hide his brilliance behind a stutter and a limp. Because he was never perceived as a threat, Claudius was never poisoned as many others in his circle were.

HBO has bolstered its executive team in charge of miniseries. HBO Films vp Kary Antholis has been promoted to senior vp miniseries, and HBO Entertainment director John Murchison has been upped to vp miniseries. They have worked on many HBO miniseries projects including Angels in America, Band of Brothers and the upcoming Rome. They both report to Colin Callender, president of HBO Films, who added oversight of miniseries to his responsibilities last summer when former HBO senior vp original programming Anne Thomopoulos left the company. Thomopoulos still works with HBO on projects including Rome, for which she is executive producer. Antholis has been at HBO since 1992, starting as director of documentary programming. He left the network from 1994-97 to produce outside the company but returned to supervise Corner. "Kary is a superb executive who has supervised some of HBO's most prestigious dramas, and he is uniquely qualified to spearhead HBO Films' big push into the miniseries arena," Callender said. Murchison started at HBO in 1995 as an assistant to Keri Putnam, executive vp at HBO Films. He was promoted to manager of original programming in 1998.
