Prepare your living room for its own slice of Chicken Jockey mayhem. This year’s big moneymaker, A Minecraft Movie, is set to hit digital streaming next week on May 13, but Blu-ray.com has now reported on the details that Warner Bros. has released for the Minecraft Movie 4K Blu-ray home release. The spring blockbuster that stars Jason Momoa, Jack Black, Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks, and Sebastian Hansen will be releasing both HD and Ultra-hd Blu-rays on June 24.

Some of the unsung heroes of Apple TV+’s hit series Severance — casting director Rachel Tenner, production designer Jeremy Hindle and composer Theodore Shapiro — dug into the behind-the-scenes work that goes into building out the world of Lumon Industries during a panel at Deadline’s Contenders Television.

Telling the story of a team of office workers whose memories have been surgically divided between their work and personal lives, these creatives drew inspiration from some interesting places, including John Deere’s 1950s office buildings.

“A tractor company has the most typical office, probably in America,” Hindle said during the conversation, explaining there’d been little guidance in the script as far as what the office should look like. Since the show was only budgeted for one location in the first season, Hindle says he knew it needed to be “interesting.”

Entertainment Weekly has the images, as well as an interview with casting director Rachel Tenner and executive producer Warren Littlefield about assembling the show's all-star cast.

The Casting Society of America has revealed the nominees for the 38th Artios Awards, the annual ceremony that recognizes the year’s achievements in television, film and theatre casting.

In the TV category, Netflix and HBO/HBO Max tied with 11 nods. Netflix’s series include “Inventing Anna,” “Maid” and “Ozark,” while HBO and HBO Max were recognized for “Succession,” “Euphoria,” “The Gilded Age,” and more. The following streamers tied at five nominations each: Apple TV+ was nominated for shows like “Severance,” “Pachinko,” and “Ted Lasso.” Hulu got nods for “The Dropout,” “Dopesick” and others.

Broadway productions that received nominations include the revival of “Company,” “Mj the Musical,” “Music Man,” “Take Me Out,” and “Potus.” Films that did not receive non-theatrical releases (such as “Deep Water” and “The Adam Project”) were also recognized. Theatrical release nominations will be announced in January.

Severance director and executive producer Ben Stiller knew he had something special with Dan Erickson’s pilot script about five years ago. Initially, he signed on only to direct the pilot, but the material kept pulling him in, to the point where he directed six of the nine episodes of Apple TV+’s sci-fi series, which has now scored 14 Emmy nominations.

The show stars Adam Scott, Zach Cherry, Britt Lower, John Turturro, Christopher Walken and Patricia Arquette and follows employees at Lumon Industries who agree to a “severance procedure” to separate their work lives from their personal lives. “I read it and I thought it was just so unique in terms of its tone, and it just jumped off the page to me,” says Stiller.

Apple TV+ breakout hit Severance left the waffles behind and celebrated its 14 Emmy nominations on Sunday at Nobu, where the streamer hosted an oceanside For Your Consideration event with some of the cast and crew.

The show, which follows a team of office workers whose memories have been surgically divided between their work and personal lives, has quickly become known for the quirky underground world and reward system it has created, as executive producers Ben Stiller and Dan Erickson point to the “Waffle Party” and “Music Dance Experience” as two aspects that they’ve gotten a particular reaction to from fans.

“I love the reaction when people say like, ‘That’s not what I thought a waffle party would be,'” Stiller told The Hollywood Reporter at the event. “I never had a preconception of what a waffle party actually is — I guess...

“I wrote the very first version of the pilot while I was working at a door factory,” revealed “Severance” creator Dan Erickson at a special Emmys FYC event on Sunday night. “It was the first job I could find when I first moved to L.A. It was off of a Craigslist post. I started to hate my life so intensely that the idea of the show just came out.”

Feelings of discontent or hating anything seemed to be completely severed at the gathering inside Nobu Malibu, cheekily referred to as a “Lumon Corporate Retreat.” Waves crashed onto the sandy beach below as guests including PGA members, industry insiders, entertainers and select media enjoyed caviar, champagne and Japanese cuisine. The virtual ceremony included numerous bold-face names as presenters – including Steven Spielberg, Best Supporting Actress front-runner Ariana DeBose, Best Supporting Actor leader Troy Kotsur, and Brian Cox – as well as a special honor, the Zeitgeist Award, for “Spider-Man: No Way Home.”

Best Picture Oscar nominees Coda, West Side Story and Don’t Look Up were among the winners at the Casting Society’s 37th annual Artios Awards, which were handed out today during a virtual ceremony that streamed live on YouTube. Check out the full list below.

Other films scoring the trophies that honor casting directors include Encanto, The Tender Bar and Spider-Man: No Way Home, which snared the Zeitgeist Award that is presented to a popular film.

On the TV front, winners included the casting crews behind Ted Lasso, The Queen’s Gambit, Pose, Lovecraft Country, Big Mouth and Queer Eye, among others.

“Belfast,” “Coda,” “King Richard,” “House of Gucci,” “West Side Story” and “The Power of the Dog” are among the films nominated for the 37th Annual Artios Awards, presented by the Casting Society of America.

The awards honor casting directors’ contribution to film, television and theatre. Winners will be revealed on March 17 via a virtual ceremony.

Among the animated features nominated are “Encanto,” “Luca,” “The Mitchells Vs. The Machines,” “Raya and the Last Dragon” and “Vivo.”

Lucy Bevan, Avy Kaufman, Carmen Cuba, Nina Gold and Cindy Tolan are just some of the casting directors who landed nominations. While the Academy has had a casting branch for the past eight years, it has yet to establish an Oscar for casting.

Music plays a huge role in several of this year’s hopefuls in the marquee categories including the musicals West Side Story and In the Heights, along with making-of-a-musical pic tick, tick…Boom! Also in the Artios mix are tune-filled toons Luca, Encanto and Vivo.

The casting branch of the academy is only eight years old and doesn’t have an Oscar category of its own. However, the Casting Society of America has been handing out the Artios Awards for 37 years (“Artios” is from the ancient Greek meaning “perfectly fitted.”).

Nominees for feature films were announced on February 1 (the last day of Oscar nominations voting). Many of the leading Academy Awards contenders reaped bids across the various categories according to production cost. Winners will be revealed a virtual ceremony on March 17, which is the first day of final Oscar voting.

Last year’s big budget winners were the comedy “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm” and the drama “The Trial of the Chicago 7 ” while “The Forty-Year-Old Version” and “One Night in Miami” took the equivalent prizes in the independent division. “Minari” won the low budget and “The Surrogate” the micro budget prizes while “Soul” claimed the animation award.

The Casting Society of America has nominated 100 casting directors for 39 different films for the 37th annual Artios Awards, which honor the work of casting directors in eight different feature categories.

“Don’t Look Up” and “The French Dispatch” were among the nominees in the Big Budget Comedy category, “King Richard” and “The Power of the Dog” for Big Budget Drama, “”The Tender Bar,” “Belfast” and “Coda” in the Studio or Independent categories and “The Humans” and “Shiva Baby” in Low Budget and Micro Budget.

With categories covering every genre and budget level, most of the top contenders for this year’s film awards were included, with the exception of “Dune,” “Licorice Pizza,” “Nightmare Alley,” “Being the Ricardos” and “The Tragedy of Macbeth.”

Winners will be announced on March 17, though the planned in-person ceremony has been canceled because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“I was nervous filming a movie with George Clooney and Ben Affleck,” Daniel Ranieri admits about his initial nerves on his first ever film role in the critically acclaimed coming-of-age drama “The Tender Bar.” “I was kind of nervous the first scene, but after I got done with the first scene, I was like, oh, this is so easy. And for the rest of the two months filming, I wasn’t nervous at all. We just filmed the scenes and I had a great time!”

At Sunday’s Contenders Film: Los Angeles event, The Tender Bar star Ben Affleck and the two young actors — Tye Sheridan and Daniel Ranieri — who share the role of the older and younger J.R. Moehringer in George Clooney’s film version of Moehringer’s memoir, joined me virtually as part of the Amazon Studios presentation.

Clooney’s follow-up to his Netflix sci-fi pic The Midnight Sky is an adaptation of Pulitzer Prize winner Moehringer’s bestselling personal coming-of-age story, with the screenplay by Oscar winner William Monahan.

Hot on the heels of a shocking Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony, the Casting Society of America announced the television and theatre nominations for the 35th Artios Awards, honoring the contributions of casting directors to the arts.

While Netflix’s “When They See Us,” which won casting for a limited series, and HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” which won casting for a drama series at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards earlier this month, have the potential to repeat their accomplishments thanks to the newly announced nominations. The competition for comedy series casting is wide open, with Emmy-winning “Fleabag” not nominated by Csa.

As for networks, Netflix far and away outstripped its competitors, scoring an impressive 19 television Artios Award nominations, compared to just eight for HBO, four for Hulu, three for FX, and two for Amazon Prime Video.

While Hulu drew attention to its most recent series by casting A-listers such as George Clooney in its “Catch-22” adaptation and Patricia Arquette in “The Act,” it was the younger actors in both of these series, Christopher Abbott and Calum Worthy, respectively, who took center stage and became breakout stars in the process.

During Hulu’s “Art of Casting” panel at Variety’s TV Summit Wednesday, casting directors Sharon Bialy (“The Act”) and Rachel Tenner (“Catch-22”) both admitted that casting the leading roles in their respective limited series was more streamlined than usual.

The eighth annual Atx Television Festival has added Freeform’s “Good Trouble,” Comedy Central’s “Alternatino with Arturo Castro,” IFC’s “Sherman’s Showcase,” USA’s “Dare Me” and a special panel on casting to its lineup.

“Good Trouble” will deliver an early look at the second season of “The Fosters” spinoff. This screening will be followed by a Q&A discussion with showrunner and executive producer Joanna Johnson and series stars Maia Mitchell and Cierra Ramirez.
