David Tennant weighs in on rumors that he has been tapped to return to the Tardis following Ncuti Gatwa's potential Doctor Who exit. Tennant first joined the series as the Tenth Doctor in 2005 and led the series until 2010. After a major cameo in 2013, he made another surprising return in 2022's "The Power of the Doctor," portraying the fourteenth incarnation of the Doctor for the show's 60th anniversary celebrations. Tennant starred in three special episodes before departing the series once again.
As Doctor Who season 15 draws closer to its end and the show's future remains uncertain, Tennant was asked about the rumors that he had been selected to lead the show once more when speaking to The Guardian. The actor immediately debunked the idea, stating, "Ha, nobody’s told me that!" He then went on to defend his fellow Doctors, Gatwa and Jodie Whittaker, from questionable online debates, stating:

With awards season all but done and dusted, Oscars. Golden Globes, SAGs, and BAFTAs all having been dutifully doled out over the past few months, this evening saw the BAFTA TV Awards 2025 — hosted by Avengers: Doomsday's Alan Cumming and held at London's Royal Festival Hall — take centre stage for a night of red carpet walking and shiny statue giving. And during a telecast in which the two most nominated shows — Netflix stalker thriller Baby Reindeer and ITV drama Mr Bates Vs The Post Office — took home one award apiece, the likes of Mr Loverman, Shōgun, and Blue Lights all scored big wins in major categories.
On the night, Baby Reindeer's sole win saw Jessica Gunning's turn as Richard Gadd's crazed stalker Martha recognised in the Supporting Actress race, while Mr Bates Vs Post Office, which was elsewhere nominated in both Lead acting categories, took home the coveted accolade for Limited Drama.

Mr Bates vs The Post Office and Mr Loverman were the big victors at the BAFTA TV Awards, meaning Baby Reindeer did not continue its dominant winning streak.
Hosted by The Traitors star Alan Cumming, the BAFTA ceremony took place in sparkling spring sunshine on the banks of the River Thames at London’s Royal Festival Hall on Sunday.
The prizes were fairly evenly shared, but perhaps unsurprisingly, it was a notable night for Mr Bates vs The Post Office, the ITV series that dominated the UK ratings last year and fuelled a national conversation about injustices faced by innocent British postmasters, who were convicted of theft, fraud, and false accounting.
The series won Best Limited Drama, beating Baby Reindeer, which has been a darling of the awards season after cleaning up at the Emmys and Golden Globes. Jessica Gunning did, however, take home the prize for Best Supporting Actress for Baby Reindeer,...

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts presented its 2025 TV Awards at the Royal Festival Hall in London, with a wide spectrum of talent recognized across drama, comedy, factual, and children’s programming. Hosted by Alan Cumming, the event was broadcast on BBC One domestically and streamed on BritBox in the United States, continuing the Academy’s emphasis on broad accessibility for international audiences.
This year’s selections showcased both returning series and first-time contenders. Several winners have already seen cultural ripple effects across the UK media landscape. ITV’s Mr Bates vs the Post Office stood out not only for winning Limited Drama but also for earning the Special Award, recognizing ITV’s role in commissioning a project that helped catalyze national discussion. Based on a real-life miscarriage of justice, the series dramatized the experiences of sub-postmasters wrongly accused of theft and fraud, spurring public and political attention.

Mr Bates vs. the Post Office pulled off a victory over Netflix's Emmy-winning Baby Reindeer at the 2025 BAFTA TV Awards on Sunday. The ITV drama that dominated U.K. ratings last year tells the story of hundreds of innocent sub-postmasters and postmistresses who were wrongly accused of theft, fraud, and false accounting due to a defective It system.
However, it wasn't all bad news for Baby Reindeer. Emmy, Golden Globe, and SAG Award winner Jessica Gunning continued her impressive awards streak, scoring Best Supporting Actress, and bringing the limited series’ total to three wins, including writing and directing victories from the BAFTA TV Craft Awards on April 27.
Lennie James beat out the likes of Richard Gadd (Baby Reindeer) and Gary Oldman (Slow Horses) to win Best Actor for Mr Loverman, in which he plays an exuberant, closeted family man who wants to end his marriage and live with his best friend.

Doctor Whohas always been a progressive show. Throughout the years since its reboot in 2005, it always made an effort to showcase people of color, LGBT+ people, and disabled people. But some people have taken exception to that.
A small, vocal minority objects to Doctor Who's inclusivity, calling it "woke." But the cast and crew of the show aren't taking that lying down. Millie Gibson, who plays Ruby Sunday, said as much in a recent interview with UK publication The Standard. "I'd just watch the show for what it is," she said firmly.
She called back to past eras of the show to highlight the fact that it was always diverse. "I remember watching an episode where David Tennant goes back, I think it's with Martha [Freema Agyeman], and they meet Shakespeare. And he's like, 'Oh yeah, Shakespeare's quite hot.' Podcasting is making the leap from your ears to the Golden Globes as the annual celebration of film and TV plans to introduce a competitive Best Podcast category to January’s 2026 ceremony. While some outlets think the move is bizarre, organizers say there are “extraordinary and diverse talents in podcasting,” and “seismic growth” in the podcast space warrants a spotlight on the glitzy show.

Former Doctor Who star Peter Purves has complained that the modern version of the Disney+ show is "too sophisticated." Purves played companion Steven Taylor between 1965 and 1966.
Purves' character was a memorable part of the First Doctor era of Doctor Who, before much of the mythology behind The Doctor had been developed. For example, the concept of regeneration had not yet been introduced during Steven's travels with the First Doctor, nor had there been much exploration of the Time Lord race.
Peter Purves Shares His Complaints About Modern Doctor Who
According to BBC News, Purves shared his thoughts on the current version of Doctor Who while attending an unofficial exhibit for the show at Peterborough Museum and Art Gallery. He called modern Who "far too sophisticated for [his] simple brain."

The final season of Good Omens just got a major update from leading star David Tennant. Tennant plays the role of Crowley opposite Michael Sheen's Aziraphale in the first two seasons of Good Omens, which are both streaming on Prime Video. The show was renewed for Season 3, and it even began production last year before it was paused amid sexual assault allegations against creator Neil Gaiman. Not long after the show hit the pause button, it was announced that Good Omens would indeed wrap up with a third season, but it would only consist of one installment that will be one hour and 30 minutes long. Tennant recently sat down with The Independent, and he provided an update on the final season, admitting that it “would have been difficult to leave it on a cliffhanger”:
"We're doing Good Omens again. We're going back to do the final. We're doing a final.

Good Omens is based on the beloved book written by the late Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman. When the book was finally adapted for television, Gaiman became the showrunner, helping lead the project to success.
Following the sexual assault and abuse allegations against Gaiman in September 2024, it was announced that he would be leaving the production and that Good Omens Season 3 would be reduced to a single 90-minute installment. During an appearance on The Assembly, series star David Tennant addressed the allegations and what it means for the show's future. "We’re doing Good Omens again," he said via The Independent. "We're going back to do the final. There's been a slight rejig with the personnel. But we still get to tell that story - I think it would have been very difficult to leave it on a cliffhanger. So I’m glad that’s been worked out."

We got word that filming was set to get underway on the second season of Ahsoka last week during Star Wars Celebration Japan, and star Rosario Dawson has now announced that cameras are officially rolling with our first behind-the-scenes production photo.
The shot isn't especially revealing, but it's clear from the shadow that Dawson is in full Ahsoka mode here.
In many ways, Ahsoka served as a live-action fifth season of Star Wars Rebels, and season 2 looks set to introduce even more elements from the fan-favorite animated series, with Zeb Orrelios (presumably voiced by Steve Blum) set to join Ezra (Eman Esfandi), Hera (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), Sabine (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) and Chopper the droid as the Og crew of The Ghost.

The first season of Good Omens adapted the book of the same name by Neil Gaiman and the late Terry Pratchett. The second season went beyond the book, with Gaiman closely involved with expanding the story. The third and final season was set to wrap things up, but then Gaiman was accused of sexual misconduct by multiple women (he has denied the allegations) and exited the show. The third season is still happening, but it will now just be a 90-minute mini-movie coming out sometime later this year.

Despite the ire toward and denouncement of J.K. Rowling from such colleagues like Nicola Coughlan, Pedro Pascal and David Tennant, and amid the rise of anti-trans rhetoric from the presidential administration, John Lithgow is befuddled at how the author’s sentiments factor into his decision to step into the role of Albus Dumbledore in HBO’s forthcoming Harry Potter serialized adaptation.
Speaking to The Times U.K., the Conclave actor said he didn’t expect the backlash at his involvement and that the censure by audiences didn’t put him off from continuing with the project.
“I thought, why is this a factor at all? I wonder how J.K. Rowling has absorbed it. I suppose at a certain point I’ll meet her and I’m curious to talk to her,” he said. When asked if the criticism dissuaded him, he responded, “Oh, heavens no.”

David Tennant has never minced his words when it comes to his feelings about Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling and her controversial stance on transgender issues. While appearing on ITV’s unconventional interview show The Assembly, Tennant was asked to share his opinions on the author by a group of neurodivergent young adults. In response to the question, Tennant amicably replied:

The comments come following a ruling by the U.K. Supreme Court that states the terms “women” and “sex” can only be used when relating to those terms in a biological sense. The 2007 CBS TV series "Viva Laughlin" was a remake of the show "Blackpool," which ran on BBC One in the mid-2000s. In the British series, David Morrissey played Ripley Holden, a character who became embroiled in a murder in a local video arcade right when he was planning on transforming it into a hotel and casino. Georgia Taylor played Shyanne, Ripley's bratty daughter, while Sarah Parish portrayed Ripley's wife Natalie, and erstwhile "Doctor Who" star David Tennant played a cop who was convinced that Ripley was guilty. "Blackpool" ran for six episodes in 2004 and then returned for a 2006 TV movie titled "Viva Blackpool." The show's main selling point was that it featured multiple musical numbers in every episode. The works of Elvis Presley, Elvis Costello, Queen, Billy Idol, the Clash, and many others were crooned by the cast.
