While there is no immediate release date for Us markets, legendary Aussie filmmaker Brian Trenchard Smith, via his Facebook page, announced that his new film Arctic Blast was #1 this past weekend in Spain. We also have the spiffy trailer for everyone below.
A Us research vessel sits on a calm Antarctic Ocean just 100 miles off the coast of Australia studying the thinning of the ozone. Suddenly a blast of sub zero air strikes the vessel, flash freezing the scientists and crew, bodily fluids turning to ice, skin splitting as ice crystals expand in muscle and tissue – the deaths are horrific and instant… Jack Tate, a brilliant, yet troubled physicist specializing in Earth Sciences is the land based support for the research vessel. Complicating his life is a messy divorce from the local medical examiner Emma and a strained relationship with his teenaged daughter Naomi. When Jack learns about the bizarre deaths of his colleagues,...

Brian Trenchard-Smith is awesome. He's like the Roger Corman of Australia. Escape 2000, Dead End Drive In, Night of the Demons 2, Frog Dreaming and Stunt Rock are just a few of the many kick ass titles in his arsenal of awesome.
Now the ozploitation master has returns with a schlocky made for TV post-apocalyptic flick called Arctic Blast. We reported on it a ways back, but we've got the trailer so it's time for an update.

Brian Trenchard-Smith (Escape 2000) is an Ozploitation legend, so I'm definitely stoked to see he's taking on the disaster genre with Arctic Blast. Currently in post-production, the film is based on a script by Jason Bourque.

Troma sounds a lot like trauma and without knowing how they came up with the name I can't but help think it's on purpose. After all they've spent more than thirty years making sure there was something to offend somebody in virtually every movie they've made. Maybe that's why Troma is still around thirty years later. They bring a smile to the face of anyone who likes seeing sacred cows splattered even if at the end you feel a little messy yourself.
Lloyd Kaufman has made a living out of being able to brand that particular sentiment even when Troma's movies have been truly awful. In fact at times the studio has been so well known because of it’s boob baring antics that it itself has threatened to become a bigger product than any of it's films. This despite there having been some real classics, movies that I would...

Although she’s been the star of such classics as “Boogie Nights,” “Drugstore Cowboy” and “Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me,” Heather Graham has rarely delved into serious dramatic roles -– and she’s rarely been as hot as she is now, with “The Hangover” riding high at the box office. When we spoke with her recently, the blonde bombshell revealed plans to get gritty with a fact-based biopic about a lovestruck prisoner of war.
“I’m doing this movie about this Russian actress named Zoya Fyodorova,” the “Hangover” star revealed. “It’s a true story; she lived during World War II, she fell in love with this American officer. It was the time of Stalin, and if they thought you were talking to someone that wasn’t Russian, they could throw you into jail for twenty years. She was in jail for eight years.”
