Quentin Tarantino opened about his estranged father, giving far more detail than ever before in a recent interview with Marc Maron.
The Oscar-winning filmmaker dropped by the Wtf podcast for an interview posted Monday in which he talked about his career, as well as his upbringing and how it shaped his love of movies. Tarantino reminisced about his stepfather, Curtis Zastoupil, of whom he was quite fond, but also his biological father, aspiring actor Tony Tarantino, who he loathes.
Starting on the topic, the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood writer-director said he chose to keep the last name Tarantino because it sounded cool. “...

Watch out. I’m about to go political again.
Quentin Tarantino, one of our most popular heroic fantasy movie writer/directors, has pissed off the nation’s police community with police unions in Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, New Jersey, New York and Philadelphia as well as the National Association of Police Organizations (Napo) calling for a boycott of his work.
These sundry organizations were joined by Quentin’s own father, Tony Tarantino. “I love my son and have great respect for him as an artist but he is dead wrong in calling police officers, particularly in New York City where I grew up, murderers.” Wow, I guess Thanksgiving at the Tarantino house is going to be one fun-filled laugh epic.
According to the statement on Napo’s website, “We ask officers to stop working special assignments or off-duty jobs, such as providing security, traffic control or technical advice for any...

An unlikely ally has joined the NYPD and Lapd police officers unions in condemning Quentin Tarantino for his stance on police brutality: The director's own father. In a statement given to the Patrolmen's Benevolent Association – the NYPD rank-and-file officers union – Tony Tarantino wrote, "I love my son and have great respect for him as an artist but he is dead wrong in calling police officers, particularly in New York City where I grew up, murderers."

Quentin Tarantino‘s estranged father has spoken out against his son for referring to police officers as “murderers.” “I love my son and have great respect for him as an artist, but he is dead wrong in calling police officers, particularly in New York City where I grew up, murderers,” Tony Tarantino said in a statement released by the New York Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association. “He is a passionate man and that comes out in his art, but sometimes he lets his passion blind him to the facts and to reality,” he continued. “I wish he would take a hard,...

Quentin Tarantino is often criticized for his terrible acting, and with good reason. The subject came up again during our Tarantino month-long tribute, back in December. Justine Smith wrote a very interesting piece, titled simply, Tarantino the Actor. While she did not defend the director’s skill in front of the camera, she did however, defend his performance in From Dusk Till Dawn, stating:
The only time that Tarantino has ever given a truly impressive performance is in From Dusk Till Dawn, where he plays a mentally unstable killer who has difficulty distinguishing reality from fiction. He is perfectly cast in this role, as his natural “strangeness” works directly in favour of the character. In comparison with George Clooney, who navigates this universe with familiarity and an effortless sense of cool, Tarantino’s character struggles to understand the moral boundaries of this criminal milieu. He is literally out of place in this universe,...

It’s been a few months since we’ve heard anything about Derek K. Milton’s supernatural western Death Keeps Coming, and the other day reader “Jessica” dropped us a line with the heads up that some more casting took place shortly after our last piece on it that slipped past us.
Dee Wallace was one name added to the roster of those trying to get away from Death, who will be played by Martin Kove (John Kreese from The Karate Kid). Good casting choice! Ernest Borgnine, Muse Watson and Tony Tarantino, Quentin’s father, also star.
The official Death Keeps Coming site hasn’t been updated in a while, but hopefully that’s just because everything’s being finalized. We need more supernatural westerns, and this yarn, about a gunfighter who shows up mysteriously to save a girl from an ancient gypsy curse, should fit that bill nicely!
