Shudder is a streaming service that is specifically dedicated to the horror genre, so it’s only fitting that we here on Arrow in the Head should compile a list of the Best Horror Movies on Shudder Right Now. As with all streamers, Shudder has movies that come and go on a regular basis, but if you head over there today here are some of the best movies you can find on the service:
Night Of The Living Dead (1968)
Yes, George A. Romero’s 1968 classic Night of the Living Dead seems to be available on nearly every streaming service there is, and that’s because the movie is in the public domain due to the copyright notice accidentally being left off the film print. When you’re a streaming service that deals specifically with the horror genre, it would be insane if you didn’t have Night of the Living Dead...

The slasher film. Across several decades, one of the most dominating sub-genres in the entire horror sphere. From the beginning days of the formative slashers in the 1970s, all the way to today’s reboots, sequels, and fresh originals. From classic icons such as Michael Myers to modern killers like Mia Goth’s Pearl. The slasher truly lives forever, proving it’s always in fashion.
One of the most unique slashers is a movie that just celebrated its 40th anniversary. A movie that spawned a series of films written and directed entirely by women, a rarity in the genre.
That movie? The Slumber Party Massacre.
Released in 1982, The Slumber Party Massacre started life as an on-the-nose horror movie that would essentially be a send-up of genre tropes. This original screenplay was titled Sleepless Nights and was authored by famed feminist writer Rita Mae Brown as a parody of the often dominated slasher film genre,...

Scream Factory has announced that they will be giving the 1982 slasher classic The Slumber Party Massacre (watch it Here) and its bonkers 1987 sequel Slumber Party Massacre II (watch that one Here) – which I enjoy even more than the first movie – a double feature 4K Uhd release on February 21st. And copies are already available for pre-order at This Link!
Directed by Amy Holden Jones from a screenplay by Rita Mae Brown, The Slumber Party Massacre has the following synopsis: When Trish decides to invite her high school girls’ basketball teammates over for a slumber party, she has no idea the night is going to end with an unexpected guest – an escaped mental patient and his portable power drill – crashing the party.
The film stars Michele Michaels, Robin Stille, Michael Villella, Debra Deliso, Andree Honore, Gina Mari, Jennifer Meyers, Pamela Roylance, and Brinke Stevens.

I sometimes get in the mood for fun summer B horror movies and this is certainly one of them type of flicks. I have seen this movie a few times in the past. It’s always a pleasant surprise on an overly tired genre by this point. Slasher films had peaked in the mid 80s and fizzled by the time this film made its debut.

A mass murdering maniac escapes from prison and, armed with a power drill, begins to decimate the nubile high schoolers of a Los Angeles suburb during their slumber party. That’s it. Why mess with perfection and add a convoluted plot?
This is the 80′s remember, when the slasher movie was king and all you needed to make a film was a bunch of nubile girls willing to strip off on camera, some Ok(ish) special effects, and someone to play the killer… No need forany real motivation, no need for any back story, just as long as there’s gore-a-plenty!
Initially intended as a parody of the slasher genre, scripted by lesbian-feminist author and activist Rita Mae Brown (Rubyfruit Jungle) and directed by Amy Holden Jones (who went...

Love him or hate him, one thing is for sure: Director David DeCoteau is a legend in the horror entertainment field. That can't be denied. He's the man responsible for 80's camp classics such as Nightmare Sisters and Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-o-Rama. Sorority Babes In The Slimeball Bowl-o-Rama gathered a once in a lifetime B movie cast including Linnea Quigley (The Return of the Living Dead), Brinke Stevens (Grandma's House), Michelle Bauer (Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers), Robin Stille (The Slumber Party Massacre), Hal Havins (Night of the Demons), and George 'Buck' Flower (They Live). While Sorority Babes was one of the most downright fun horror films of the 80's, another element stood out about the film, one that would go on to shape and define David DeCoteau's career. See, David DeCoteau cast this complete unknown named Andras Jones in the lead role. Right off the bat, you could...

Seeing how the teen horror slasher "The Slumber Party Massacre", which starred Robin Stille and Michelle Michaels, was a big hit for New World Pictures, Roger Corman was looking to create that same success yet again after he developed Concorde Pictures. Thus was born Sorority House Massacre which also incorporated elements from the popular Halloween franchise. Sorority House Massacre continued on with the tradition of a female director (Carol Frank), and an ensemble of female leads including Wendy Martel, Pamela Ross and Nicole Rio. However, the standout was Angela O' Neill. While the others were appealing and created distinct personalities for each of their characters, Angela O' Neill had this almost ethereal like presence. She wasn't this big, flashy diva actress. She was a bit more on the quite and reserved side, but there was just something about her that made it so that her presence filled the screen and...

Let’s go back to the 1980′s. Ronald Reagan was president. Our economy was in the shitter. AIDS was making news as a real threat to society. And the slasher film was making tons of money in the box office and at home with a new fangled contraption called a VHS player. Halloween. Friday the 13th. Nightmare on Elm Street. Those are but a few names that get thrown around when people speak about the slasher genre. But one series that tends to get forgotten or mixed up in the mess is The Slumber Party Massacre Trilogy. And that’s a sad fact, considering these films are loved by many horror fans and thanks to Shout! Factory, they are newly remastered and available for the world to buy now. But do they still match up to their brethren in the genre?

Next Tuesday Shout! Factory unleashes yet another winning package that we never thought we'd see. That's right, kids. The Slumber Party Massacre collection is heading our way, and we have a look at it for you!
From the Press Release:
Stay up all night with the films that put a new twist on the slasher genre. Along with Halloween (1978), Friday the 13th (1980) and Prom Night (1980), Slumber Party Massacre (1982) helped define the slasher film ethos of the 1980s. Put together by first-time director Amy Holden from a script, titled “Don’t Open the Door," by feminist author Rita Mae Brown (Rubyfruit Jungle), the film was an immediate hit for Roger Corman's New World Pictures, eventually spawning two sequels.
Here, for the first time, all three Slumber Party Massacres are brought together in one DVD set, due to drill its way into your heart on October 5, 2010 from Shout! Factory, in association with New Horizons Picture Corporation.
